UKGPL Season 15 Masters - Road Atlanta - Jun 22

Gents,

Welcome to round 7 at Road Atlanta. A new track for me, and possibly some of you: I get to race the Coop there a week on Sunday, but for you it's much sooner .

As usual, good luck to all, and please report any incidents to me.

Qually time = 35 minutes

You must NOT start qualifying until 30 mins is left on the clock to allow for reserves.

Race length = 39 laps


Groups Based on Divisional Standings:

Group 1 - 1st and 2nd - Limited to BRM, Cooper or Honda
Hristo Itchov
Lorenzo Galluzzi

Group 2 - 3rd and 4th - Limited to BRM, Cooper, Honda or Brabham
Clive Gardner
John Roberts

Group 3 - 5th and 6th - Cannot take Eagle or Lotus
Glyn
Kruger Enge

Group 4 - 7th and 8th - Cannot take Lotus

Syd Drake


9th and below - Free choice of chassis.

If you want to take a chassis other than those you are restricted to, you will need to make the appropriate pit stop(s), as follows:

The pit window is as follows:

First pit stop to be taken between 31 and 20 to go on your pit board. If a second stop is required it must be taken at least 1 full lap after the first and before 10 to go on your pit board.

Yes - a shame, but the Masters turnout is smaller each round  :'(.

What say you, Masters drivers - is this particular season a bogey?

Yes, only four people showing up certainly does not bode well for Masters

I had a rare no show as I had an unscheduled game watching party from my friends so it would have been rude to leave them sitting for an hour and a half

Despite that, its still low numbers and personally, I feel not so motivated trying in the race where if you lost it at the start, have little chance to improve significantly.

Maybe we should think about this series and what can we do to improve it...

I'd have thought it was an ideal opportunity for the Div 1 drivers to get in some practice for next weeks race.

I love both series, I don't understand why the turnout for Masters is lower, for me it has always been the better of the two divisions regarding real racing (no pitstops) and has a very nice equalizer by forcing drivers higher in standings to take slower cars. 4 or not, I kinda enjoyed the race, the setup was good, managed to get a good rythm going and apart from a few slips and offs, had a good run. Pitstop could've been better, but I had enough gap over Ken, though I still had to wait until the last lap of pit window to make sure i come out infront. Chased Clive hard in the end so I can lap him too (no hard feelings).
Would be nice if the others that didn't race say something too, so we'd know if it's a matter of interest or just a coincidence of everyone being busy.

Masters is new to me and the longer races certainly focus concentration on engine management and survival techniques

I think ( but only sometimes!! ) that my driving is improving and I am sure that racing against faster guys over longer distances has helped.
As it stands with the small grids in Masters, the races for me are all about how far I can go without being lapped by the aliens and trying to complete the race. At Atlanta, I held out until the last lap  .
But as much as I was trying not to be lapped, Hristo 's target was to make sure that he did in fact catch and lap me .
I'm sure that there are drivers in Clubmans or Div1 who should not be afraid of the name "Masters" after all the pace is not any different and there is the novelty of different tracks to learn, which for me and the "not so quick brigade" starts us all on a level playing field.

You are too modest Clive: with a rank of nearly -30, I do believe your ears are looking decidedly pointy, and you may find a hint of green the next time you cut yourself.

Here's my 2 cents worth , first off I had no idea we mere mortals were welcome to join in with you "Masters"

But in any event its a big question of time , being involved in Div 1, Historic and Club races, doesnt leave much breathing space .

I really dont think I could find the time to put in the neccesary practise to be anything like competative at the new tracks, particularly as I am finding my learning curve often takes a sharp turn in the opposite direction these days

Bernie, it may have escaped your notice, but Div 1 is running Road Atlanta this Sunday, so any practice you would have done for the Masters race wouldn't have been wasted. Now you only have 5 days to learn the track!
