Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 49s

Pribeiro gets an excellent start and fairly gains a couple of places into T1. He then brakes far later than those around, who are taking the necessary careful approach, clatters into the back of Phil Gilliland and spins him.

TT does all he can, but has no chance of avoiding Phil and unluckily hits him.

Server replay time: 53s

Pribeiro then proceeds to clatter into the back of Martin Mason midway through T1. As with the earlier incident, Martin is spun around.

PR did mention he was suffering with internet problems in forums but makes no mention of such problems in his incident report. This would explain his actions here, as these incidents are certainly out of character for him, and all of us. I'm pretty sure this was the underlying cause of these incidents and serves as a reminder to us all to quit at the first sign of connection problems.

Server replay time: 53s

Most avoid the trouble caused into T1 by PR (or his internet connection), however Syd Drake and Wiltshire Tony do make contact with other cars. They both certainly make efforts to avoid trouble but maybe could have done more.

As the blame lies elsewhere, penalties are not warrented but I feel a plea to show even more care is fair.

Server replay time: 141s

Wilstshire Tony spins coming into the chicane and ends up facing the traffic just off the right side of the traffic. Despite the fact he could see cars arriving at high speed, he attempts a very risky spin manoeuvre, from grass to middle of the track. Luckily the first upon the scene avoid him but Sandor is taken by surprise and hits him.

Whilst, arguably, the contact could have been avoided, hence the maximum penalty will not be given, the rejoin was certainly dangerous. Tony should have waited until all had passed or used the grass, so similar dangerous rejoins must be discouraged.

Server replay time: 346s

Dave (GardO) runs wide into T1 of the complex and Matt (phspok), in his nimble Elan, resultantly closes right up coming out of the complex. However, he barely gets his bonnet level with the rear of Dave's Cobra so a passing attempt is really not on and Dave had every right to defend the corner. I'm not sure if Matt was attempting a pass but he does rather unncessarily run into the back of Dave and spins him off.

To give Matt his dues, it was he who reported this incident and, because Dave has entered no views on this incident, I presume he wants no penalty applied.

Server replay time: 412s

Dave (GardoO) catches back up to Matt (phspok) by the time they reach the chicane. Dave gets a far better exit and seems suprised how quickly he gains on the slower Elan, in his Cobra. He does try to avoid the back of Matt but just clips his flank and rather unluckily sends Matt off.

Matt does not want a penalty applied and Dave stops and waits for him after making the mistake, which should be commended. Therefore no penalty is necessary.

I'll post my setup later if it will help. No real secrets in there, but brake bias is a little more forward than other cars for me, say 57/43. If you're struggling in braking zones try using highest gearing which helps to settle the rear end for me. I learnt the track that way but I'm pretty sure lowest gearing is fastest even though it runs out on back straight.

This is a hard track to learn. I've not had problems learning a track like this in years. I usually learn stuff quick. For example in GTR Evolution I drove Curitiba for the first time and had the track memorized in about 5 laps. Thruxton I've done at least five times that and have yet to actually finish a lap without going off.

Frustrating.

Starting to get some consistency either side of 27 now, but mistakes cost dearly here where you need to keep up momentum.  It's going to be awesomely tiring work for 40 minutes.  Tongue

I've uploaded my Cobra setup to the online files for Thruxton if anyone wants to try it, it works for me.  Like Ginsters I'm on the high gearing, little more controlled and I think the Cobra has enough torque not to need redlining all the time.

Finally got the circuit memorised. Slow as hell but I know where I am now.

Which of course makes it an almost certainty I will miss the race now.

Just in case anybody missed it, this was announced after the Watkins Glen race

Standing starts are inherently dangerous but, even with the unusual and unfortunate events seen as Watkins Glen, there are steps we can all take to limit the damage. At first sign of trouble on the grid you must slow, by blending off the throttle and if unavoidable braking, thus giving yourself every opportunity to react. Here, the vast majority of the grid followed these common sense rules and should be commended. However one or two appeared to ignore them and simply carried on accelerating as normal with inevitable results. I say "appeared" because the replays only show the action and not any other circumstances that may be involved and therefore they have been given the benefit of the doubt this time.

With their undoubted popularity, we will continue with standing starts but only with certain provisos. No benefit of doubt will be given to those who do not appear, we will rely on replay evidence alone, to take all reasonable care in the future and the harshest possible penalties, within our rules, will be given out. 'Other circumstances' cannot be taken into consideration for future offences. We feel these steps are necessary and reasonable as such actions ruin hours of preparation and racing unnecessarily for others.

I'm sure there will be no repeat here Smiley That said, right from the off I feared this track might cause problems due to its massively high average speed. Its a test for all of us this one so lets be careful out there.

Yep I hear ya mate, the potential for disaster is high enough on your own let alone with a field full!

Cheers Steve/ Ian btw, will have a run out with those setups tonight just in case but I think it's probably a technique thing my end. The fast stuff is fine and lots of fun, but braking down for the chicanes I'm just permanently fighting tank slappers - I think it's those extra pies affecting my weight transfer.  drool

Just don't try to brake really late Oily, early gradual braking seems best.  Wink

Oh and a warning to all Elan drivers out there (particularly if you've not tried the Cobra), there is a distinct possibility you may see Cobras (and possibly TVRs) taking very odd lines, be ready to take evasive, this isn't a ploy to keep you behind.  Cheesy  In fact if you lock a wheel you can't correct the Cobra without a high risk of spinning.  You have to let the Cobra go where it wants and get the speed down before wrestling control back.  Here more than most tracks the Cobra is like a bucking bronco and likes to have its own way. Steering is little more than a suggestion to the car where it should go.  Grin

With all that in mind, the Cobra (& to an extent the TVR) would be an odd choice to drive  Huh

I tried it (Cobra) & after starting about 30 separate laps I couldn't register a single laptime.

It's the challenge I think. Or just pure unadulterated masochism.  Delete as appropriate.

Occasionally you do actually get a clean lap. Smiley
