Yeah, second that, really great racing last night, I enjoyed it.

Thank you again to Dave for creating this league, and thank you to Clive for the help getting a setup and learning how to keep the thing straight Smiley

The next race will be the first race in the season proper.  Drivers should register here:  https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5133.0 which also has the race schedule.

Note that I'd like drivers to choose one of these categories when posting and voting:

Beginner to online racing
Only raced at junior (Clubmans) level with UKGPL

Experienced driver but new to racing with UKGPL
Senior driver

The first group will be the Novices Championship and the second the Amateurs- though they'll be run together if possible the points for each championship will be separate.

Yah, this was great fun. I PB'd twice in the qualy session, so that was good. Had a fairly good start, but wasn't sure if I could pass anyone before T1 (in some leagues this is a rule, and I must admit that I haven't read the rules thoroughly enough to remember that detail in the heat of the moment), so I stayed behind the driver in front of me all through T1, and couldn't catch him later. I then got tangled in the hairpin pile up, and with frustration had to watch most of the field pass before I finally could go on. Was on 16th or 17th spot when passing the start/finish line, but managed to fight my way back into 10th before the end of the race. Had a nice fight with Norbert on the way up the field, and passed him in a way that I guess surprised both him and me. Shocked

Conclusion: This was fun! I want more!  thumbup2

I had a great race too  Grin Lots of good clean fun  thumbup1
Would have been better if I hadn't spun at the hairpin as I was having quite a nice race for 7th(?) until then. Fighting my way back up to 9th after I finally extracted myself kept me busy from there on.
Also if the replay should surface then could someone please post it as I don't have one  Embarrassed

I'm being slightly thick regarding the categories for the upcoming season though...
I'm guessing that I fall under Senior driver as I've been racing off-line for yonks but have only just joined the fun here at UKGPL?

I have a replay of Mexico here if anyone would like it, but I will delete the link if one becomes available from the UKGPL server, to save a little bandwidth from my site.

Caution: 37MB (and that's zipped!)

Mexico was great fun, although it started off rather depressingly with my giving Evil a nudge into the hairpin.  Depressing because no matter how hard I try to stay clear of trouble that corner has a history of catching me out.

In mitigation I must say that on my replay it looks as though I receive some help in the form of a perfectly timed clout from Nicky’s Cooper on my rear wheel that had the effect of spinning me around and launching Evil into the back of John Roberts.  It is quite possible that Nicky’s replay shows nothing of the sort and that is why you need to remember to save a recording of your client replay as your defence.

Thankfully a passing Ferrari gave me another blow that put my nose heading in the right direction so that I was able to trundle around the outside of the corner, where I found my way barred by one John Roberts with his nose into the Armco.  A deft smack on his front wheel sent him off in the right direction and I followed after another car or two had passed.

Thankfully, when I rounded T8R I encountered a group of people attempting to build a wigwam out of assorted cars.  That gained me a place or two, one of them being John Roberts.

I can’t remember what order I caught them in but Steve Bird and Tim were the cars that presented themselves for combat.  I got the impression that Steve let me through for which I was grateful, if a bit surprised.

Tim was another matter.  I managed to get alongside down the straight at one point but the Honda was more than a match for my BT7.  To be honest, if he hadn’t repeatedly made a complete horlicks of the second to last corner I don’t think that I would have even caught him.  Thankfully he binned it at the hairpin and I was able to nip through whilst he sorted himself out.

I then had Nicky Ickx to hunt down, whilst at the same time being hunted by John.

Nicky put up a stout defence for best part of the race and I almost felt sorry for him when he visited the Armco in turn one on the last lap.

Great stuff.  Must have sweated off about a kg.

Looking forward to the season and thanks to Dave for getting it going.

Yes big thanks to Dave for getting this 65 league running and to everyone who raced. there is no doubt that a full grid usually gives everyone a buzz and the opportunity for more interaction during the race.

After the freight train shunt at the hairpin on lap 1, it seems I missed out on a lot of fun by getting isolated in 4th spot. Yes I know I could have slowed down and let some of you catch up but,......well you know how it is :O)))

I could see "notre ami Alain" ahead in 3rd behind Kruger and Lorenzo,( who were a class apart) but I could not catch any of them. Meanwhile, cars behind seemed hell bent on keeping their distance by making various trips into the Mexican undergrowth.

The biggest shock I had was coming across a limping Lorenzo and sneaking briefly into 3rd spot for about a lap, until I went wide at T1 and he swept past and into the sunset.
After that I caught a brief glimpse of Alain, I assume he had a contre temps with something hard, but he also eased away from my Cooperslug.

Your right Clive, I did let you through , and John soon after.  You guys were way faster than me.  Following the T1 incident I thought it would be better for you both to go in chase of the leaders and I would of only served to hold you back in that chase, perhaps not for long but long enough.  If I can lap in a time close to that of the chasing driver I'll fight for the place but you guys were way out of my league, so to speak.

Maybe I should try a bit harder to defend my place on track but with only just getting confient in staying on track the last thing I want to do is ruin someone else's race.

It may be a different story when it's for points  Grin

My Cooper kicks ya right rear tyre and so on..... :'(
didnt got that impression at that race , was sure to managed to stay clean at that situation.
But I should have known better , coz I know these `collision box `isnt workin well on 65 mod.
So simply my fault.... Sorry !!

Grin yeah , T1 last lap .. damned I saw that backmarker in front , but didnt expected any influence on my grip , coz was still far away.
again my fault .well thats part of racing , ( stupid idiot me )

anyroads  , as I said  , it was big fun

Of course, that may explain the trouble I had sometimes with getting through the left-right chikane after the hairpin. If I got just a little bit too close to the kerb on the right, I got knocked sideways and spun off, although I didn't feel I was so close that one could see any wheel touching the kerb stones. Luckily this didn't happen during the race.

Shame thet John,

Perhaps you can drop in as and when available.

I know that Dave is worried about over subscription but the pre-season enthusiasm is seldom matched by actual season attendance.
