Moderator's Report

The first race of the new season attracted the usual suspects, plus a few new drivers willing to test their mettle.
In line with this seasons decision to use the Srou court system, only reported incidents will be moderated, unless the moderators decide an incident is worthy of comment/censure even though no complaint was made.
This event was I am pleased to say almost event free, and only a couple of incidents draw comment.

There was a server error that showed Storm Cloud as having quit at about the 12 lap point, whereas he was definitely in at the finish.
Analysis of the replay showed Storm Cloud crossed the line 30 seconds behind Hristo but one lap down so he actually finished in 4th place.

Server replay time: 0h00m52s

Lap 1
Storm Cloud makes a good start and closes quickly on Will Tway. Unfortunately Will appears to be ultra cautious into T1 and was maybe anticipating some trouble ahead, as the front runners all seem to take different lines through the corner.
As a result SC clips Will's rear wheel causing both cars to spin.

The following pack all manage to negotiate the two stricken cars with a few minor bumps and continue.

Normally a rear end shunt on Lap 1, especially at T1 would attract the maximum penalty of 2 places (plus another for a first lap incident). This was Sc's first race in Div1 and I would be prepared to issue a verbal warning for this first offence.

Server replay time: 0h06m10s

Hristo has closed on Kruger along the straight and attempts a brave pass over the "hump" and into the right hander. Unfortunately Hristo gets out of shape over the jump and whilst trying to regain full directional control drifts wide and makes side by side contact with Kruger, who has maintained his outside line. Kruger is knocked off the circuit and is forced to quit.
Kruger had left sufficient room for Hristo and maintained the outside line, so was not at fault. Hristo in attempting the pass, was obliged to retain control and hold the inside line.

  • Hristo Itchovpenalty — side by side contact — 1 place lost

Qualified 5th where I expected I'd end up and had a better start than Will's Brabham. Hristo went wide at T1 and I was in third following Lorenzo and Neil. I could keep pace with them watching Hristo closing oin quite fast. I managed to hold off for a couple of laps and I was determined to put up a good fight. Once Hristo got close enough, there was one attempt at the end of back straight but I managed to hold the position and next time around, Hristo braked quite late and seems to have gotten a bit out of shape under braking. I don't know if it was warp or not, my client replay shows contact but your replay Hristo should hold the answer.

I didn't move from the outside line and the contact sent me into the barriers. Car was not the same after that and I struggled to keep it on the road - soon I retired.

Whatever it was Hristo, no hard feelings whatsoever, its racing. You had to pass me as soon as possible and I had to keep you behind and sometimes these things happen.

My connection was actually good and the latency meter was stable - everyone else seemed stable to me.

I enjoyed the fight up to that point.

Grats Hristo, Neil and Art.

I have not yet had the opportunity to check the replay, so I am not sure what happened to Storm Cloud's lap count. He was showing as lapped on my prib, but I can't see where that happened.

Thanks, Kruger, what exactly happened was I wasn't positioned exactly straight over the jump so the correction I did afterwards sent me at an angle towards the middle of the track plus that didn't allow me to brake enough. As for warp I meant that from all cars I raced yours warped more since I had no problem staying very close with the others, but anyway it's not an excuse, though as you said I was really desperate to pass sooner because of the stop and go I had to serve. I'll leave it to Clive to judge it after watching the replay.

Correct the new standings, still shows me in 1st. BTW, I liked to read the short race report after each race, is that dropped too in favour of moderated incidents only?

I always liked to write a quick summary of the race, it adds a nice touch.  But it all depends how much time the moderator has.  We will try to continue the tradition.

Having said that, with the SRou message board system the story of the race is quite often encapsulated in the drivers comments that appear in the same thread as the race results.  This didn't happen on the old Yahoo groups because they weren't linked to the old results pages.  Hence any comments about the race were down to the moderator only.

It still shows me as 1st on this thread, as for the short report, yeah I know it was just moderator's personal view, but it was always nice to read from a non-competitor's point of view more like a newspaper column.  Wink Oh and I like reading about myself of course (well who doesn't!) !  Grin

With all the stress of actually doing the modding stuff, I totally overlooked the race review bit Hristo.

If that element is important to you, and others, I will try and include some words of praise ( or otherwise Roll Eyes ) in future results. Wink

It still shows me as 1st on this thread,
Yes that's the way it is done in SRou.  The revised position is shown in red.  If you look at the results table you will see that Neil has been credited with the 50 points for first place.

Yes of course they do, that's why I did it Wink.  I always tried to mention the podium and anybody who had a particularly good drive.
