Moderator's Report

It would appear that this race was incident free, other than those that were self inflicted, so well done all of those taking part for making my job much easier this time around. Even the pitstop times seem to have been well observed.
Qualifying was topped by Neils Fez on pole and a flying Phil Thornton in second spot ( showing that Phil can be up at the sharp end despite his protestations of lack of speed). Ken hustled his BRM up to 3rd and the rest of the grid formed up behind these quick guys.
(I just need to mention Hristo here, not because he did anything or even turned up for the race, but apparently he likes to see his name in print in the race reports!!)
When the flag dropped Neil took off with Ken in hot pursuit, no doubt hoping to keep Neil in sight until the pitstops came into play.
Phil made a tentative start in his Fez ( apparently his pit crew had forgotten the tyre warmers and he was suffering from lack of adhesion) which gave Evil the chance to get the Honda right onto his tail through the Esses and up to the loop.
The sight of a Honda so close seems to have unnerved Phil ( well it would most sane people!)and after such a great qually, he went wide at the loop and slipped into the fencing ending what could ( and should) have been a good race with a strong chance of a podium. ( sorry Phil!)
The race settled down to a demonstration drive by Neil out front, being only briefly in 2nd place after his pitstop, when Ken did indeed slip past, but the Fez was to prove too quick for Ken's BRM and the lead was regained before long.
Storm Cloud ( as a relative newcomer to GPL and Div 1) showed excellent pace and kept the pressure up chasing, and occasionally passing, Evil's Honda for a good part of the race until a couple of errors dropped him out of contention.
Hristo was not seen at this stage of the race.
Rob Burton appeared to have early pace, but a few excursions into the greenery dropped him back and he eventually vanished from the lap charts at about three quarter distance followed a few laps later by Bernie who had gained a few places through natural wastage up to that point.
Jack ( Dave) drove a steady race to bring his BRM home ..to finish first, first you have to finish... shows that he has mastered the first half of the equation.
Hristo did not finish...or start.
With a few laps to go, Evil was closing on Ken's BRM but the strain on the Honda engine was too much and bits now litter the American countryside. Fortunately for Evil , Neil lapped him and effectively reduced the Honda's race length, so that when the race ended Evil was still in 3rd spot.
Ken held the BRM together to get a creditable 2nd and Neil was the class of the field in the Fez in 1st place.
(Hristo was not first.)

The VROC racelist server has a new IP address.  You will need to update your vroc.ini file to read:

[VROC]
Address=70.86.214.94

At the Inter League race last week, Trellet thought our bandwidth settings on 1.ukgpl were a bit conservative.  I've upped the bandwidth settings to Fast and the server seems fine so I propose we go for that tonight.

Given the racelist problems and the revised BW settings, I've set up a practice race on VROC.  The password is set to tonight's race password.  Please make sure you can join so we don't have any last minute panic stations tonight taz

I can join. Seems okay except I was 1 year early as it was 1966.

That's the problem with running the mods with VROC.  It doesn't check the car set when you join.  IGOR can check to make sure you can only join a 66 race with 66 cars and a 67 race with 67 cars etc.

Team Pie eater was handicapped by arriving late at the track but after a concentrated effort by the whole team  managed to secure the usual medeocre position on the grid.

The race wasn't much better , the only exciting part seing Burt taking his agricultural lessons, As the fuel burned off , my Coop began to handle really well , so with 7 laps to go I decide a new PB attempt was on the cards , but in all the excitement I somehow forgot we were under "pro" rules and my attempt to take the esses "flat" resulted with a head on into the dreaded Armco!  resulting in retirement and me  ceding my hard fought  "next" to last place finish to the carefully guided BRM of JackO'.

At least this one should be an easy one for the Mods  Smiley

I met up with Burt too, he was sprawled all over the Loop..

I was determined to finish a first D1 race, but over-caution on the gearing was overtaken by extreme caution, the only overtaking I was to do this meeting!  I don't use Pribluda, so I found it difficult to check my pace as I dawdled around on my own, the result of this and the taller gears being that I was almost 1s off my Clubmans pace.

The only good that might come of my efforts would be if some of the other Clubmans drivers were encouraged to join D1 on their free Sunday- they disappear quickly after they lap you, and you can get on with racing Bernie and Burt...

Just a reminder that if you have any issues over this race, then you need to submit an incident report.

I will only have Thursday evening ( and that is going to be a bit tight for time, if she who is packing the kitchen sink has her way) before scurrying off for a holiday lasting 2 weeks.

From my on track vantage point last night it looked as if most injuries were self inflicted, so it might just be a straightforward result  Grin Grin which would be just tickety-boo!!!

Not much to report here. I trundled around in the BRM and even managed to get ahead of Neil when he made his stop. There was little chance of holding him off for the remainder of the race though, in fact I didn't even hold him off for one lap!!

I think we are suffering from the exodus to iRacing??

Any thoughts to combining Div 1 and Clubmans?

Qually went well for me and I managed to get second on the grid.  I knew I couldn't get anywhere near Neil's blistering time but being ahead of Ken's BRM was pleasing even if I did have a significant car advantage.

I always have trouble keeping the Ferrari in a straight line on cold tyres at the start so I had to take it easy to avoid pirouetting and causing a major start line pile-up.  As I tried to get away cleanly, Ken rocketed past in his BRM and I had a Honda all over my gearbox (didn't know until later that it was Clive).  Anyway on the entry to the loop on lap 1 and I'm trying to take it easy on the cold tyres but Clive's all over me and he has the inside line.  I decide to give him plenty of room in case he over cooks it (I would have, I don't know how he managed to anchor up and take such a tight line).  Trouble was I gave him too much room and I ran wide, off the track and into the straw bales which promptly removed my front nearside front.  End of race.

Bit disappointing after a good qually for me.  I'll have to up my game and be a little more aggressive on cold tyres if I'm going to compete with the big boys Shocked.  But I'll probably just end up crashing if I do Sad.

Grats to Neil, Ken and Clive.

Just dived in here ( like I did at the loop ) before I'm off on business for two days, then I'm back for Thursday and off on hols Friday.

Really sorry if I was responsible for you going off Phil especially after you qually'd so well, didn't register any contact and tried to keep it tight Undecided. It shows that you have got the pace to be up the front of Div1 Phil !!!
I just thought that if I was to stand a chance of a podium I had to get past Ken's BRM before the pitstops, so I was keen to get on his tail asap.. But that did not happen anyway. Undecided

Tough luck Phil , wondered what had happened when Prib reported your early demise, perhaps you should practise some getaways , more agression = more heat in the tyres = more grip .

Plus the possibility of you eliminating half the field would be good for me   Roll Eyes Cheesy Grin Roll Eyes

I was thinking about the race throughout the evening except the last 30 mins prior to it so I totally forgot about it and it was rather late when it hit me that I missed it. So yeah... it has happened before as you probably know, lol. Makes it more interesting for the championship I guess.

I cant express how pissed off I am, had very good race, was up to 5th with about 11 laps to go chasing Storm, I had about 13 sec lead over Bernie, took my pitstop and just about came out in front of him which was awesome, timed it so well to perfection only to go off at the loop and flip the car over Sad with about 9 laps to go Sad
