UKGPL Season 16 - Inter-League race - Watkins Glen
This is the third race in our Inter-League season, and will use the 66 mod. Our guests will be the Anglo-German league GPLRacer, though since the race will be on the GPLRacer server, we are as much their guests! Since CET is +2GMT, this race will begin one hour earlier than the previous race. Each club is to field nine cars, and there are no chassis handicaps, drivers will be racing to complete the distance and score points for their team. GPLRacer have been great supporters of the mods, and there's almost always an open GPLRacer server on Igor. Let's give a warm welcome to the GPLRacer drivers.
Please be in Igor UKGPL chatroom by 7:55 p.m, (though we may use the GPLRacer chat room as well). Igor and Race passwords: see above
Server GPLRacer6 IP address 212.202.70.148
Race date = 12-10-2008 Time = 20:00 Track = Watkins Glen Variant = 66F1 Damage Model = PRO Qually time = 30 minutes. Race length = 50 minutes (45 laps- complete 41 laps to score points as a finisher)
Chassis assignments: I've left this for the team captain BT19 one of the BT11 versions, driver to choose one BRM, driver to choose between P261 and P83 Cooper one Eagle, driver to choose between T1F and T1G one Ferrari, driver to choose between 246 and 312 Honda one Lotus, driver to choose between 43 and either of the 33 versions McLaren
If you'd like to represent UKGPL in this race please post on the thread. When you advise what chassis you'd prefer, can you mention whether you've tested a full fuel race setup for it. We've only completed one season with the 66 mod, and aren't as familiar with it as with the original cars- perhaps we could help each other with setups?
I'd also like to learn from the last race, and I suggest that we could use some American-style encouragement for the team. I've made a study of American coaching methods and it seems that they often use something to focus on, though we don't have to chop at ourselves with sharp instruments as the NFL teams do, or the Welsh... What we need to do as a team is to 'punch the gnome', as it were. Hit that little guy, slam him! Punch the gnome!

*punches the gnome*
and as for prefered car, I don't really know. The 3L Eagle in last race really caught me out by surprise with its undriveability, though looking at the results I could've prolly even challenged for win, but the handling was so inconsistant and unpredictable it was not very likely to happen. But if anything, I could step up to the challenge and try to adapt to and learn to setup that parody of a car, so don't spare me.

I'll make myself available again as I need to defend my honour after DNF'ing the last race If needed I'll take the Kiwi wagon again, but wouldn't mind a go in the Honda if none of the Hiki Waza brigade or aliens call dibs Will do some testing in the Honda first though just to make sure it is as good as I remember If none of the above then I'll happily drive anything you point me too

Well after a sound beating in the last inter league race against the "not so average" Average Drivers Club I'm hoping gnomes around the country are quivering in their boots! We need to get focused for this one, the GPLRacer crowd are every bit as good and possibly faster than ADC. The good thing is that this round is again using the 66mod so we have some experience from the last round at Mosport to draw on. I'm happy to be Captain again but having presided over 2 losses if we lose this one I reckon I deserve the sack . The PROVISIONAL driver line-up is: Driver | Chassis Options | Chassis Choice | Syd Drake | Brabham BT19 | | Lorenzo? | Brabham BT11 BRM or Brabham BT11 2.7 Ltr | Brabham BT11 2.7 Ltr? | John Roberts | BRM P261 or BRM P83 | BRM P83? | Storm Cloud | Cooper T81 | | Hristo Itchov | T1F Eagle Climax or T1G Eagle Weslake | T1G Eagle Weslake | Remy | Ferrari 246 or Ferrari 312 | Ferrari 312 | FullMetalGasket | Honda RA273 | | Neil (Glyn) Stratton | Lotus 43 BRM or Lotus 33 BRM or Lotus 33 Climax | Lotus 43 BRM | Phil Thornton | McLaren M2B Ford | |
We need to decide on chassis early to give drivers a chance to practice and settle on a good set-up. If you are not listed but want to drive or you are listed but would prefer a different chassis please post here ASAP. I may move the faster drivers to the faster chassis otherwise we might not be in with a chance of getting on the front of the grid. I've put Hristo in the T1G Eagle Weslake again to give him a chance to tame that beast in competition. But given the T1F Eagle Climax won the last round it might be a better choice? Are you confident you can compete in the Eagle or do you think you need a quicker chassis - your call Hristo.

I'd already confirmed with Lorenzo that he will be available and we'd discussed chassis. Unfortunately Ken has other commitments. Also Clive hasn't been on SRou since I put the thread up- he might be an alternative choice for the T1F, if Neil can't make it and Hristo has another preference than the Eagle?
The provisional list is earlier than I'd anticipated, but I'll take the opportunity to let you get on with it!

Which one? I would like to give Lorenzo one of the Brabhams (I think he intends to drive). Lorenzo used the BT19 last time. If he's happy with that do you want the Brabham BT11 BRM or Brabham BT11 2.7 Ltr?

I'm actually pretty fast around this track, so I'd like as fast a car as possible. I'd prefer BT19.

OK Syd you keep the BT19 then. Lorenzo has the choice of the Brabham BT11 BRM or Brabham BT11 2.7 Ltr or he could even go for the the Lotus 43 BRM - its quick judging by the WR times. Chassis | World Record | Brabham BT19 | 1:06:359 | Lotus 43 BRM | 1:06:708 | Brabham BT11 2.7 Ltr | 1:07:265 | Brabham BT11 BRM | 1:07:352 | T1G Eagle Weslake | 1:07:364 |

I'm up for the challenge to make that lump of steel tackle corners, but my question is how much slower or faster the Climax driven Eagle actually is? I haven't driven it, but if it handles much better than the Weslake version it might be enough to overcome the disadvantage in terms of engine power. I have no time to test soon, so anyone with some information on the Eagles handling and performance and perhaps actual laptimes is more than welcome to share.

I drove the Eagle Climax in the Historic race at Watkins and it is a joy to drive - hugged the road like a painted line around the turns. It is gutless to say the least on the straights however. A driver of your ability should go for something a bit more difficult but ultimately faster.
My best time was 8.48, so I would imagine you could do 7s?

Well Lorenzo is the WR holder in the Climax version at Watkins Glen. His time is 1:07:478. I would have thought he'd have a decent set up he'd be willing to share . Steve Cloyd is WR holder in the T1G Weslake version at 1:07:364. The T1G is just a whisker over a tenth of a second quicker than the T1F. If Storm Cloud reckons the Climax handles really well and if Lorenzo can provide a WR setup then maybe it would be safer to drive the T1F Eagle Climax
