Moderator's Report

A flag to flag victory for Rik Briant after a couple of disappointing results in the first two races. Does this mean Rik has now blown away the cobwebs after his long lay off from GPL? Robert Burton put in a sterling drive to claim second spot on the podium after starting way down in 8th place. The final podium place went to Michael Turner who posted his best result of the season so far.

A very clean race with no reported incidents.

Team Pie eater turned up at the track , only to find the race was actually in Mexico and not Mosport as planned  Roll Eyes

So with 25 hours practise (at the wrong track Doh!) we packed our bags and headed off to the correct venue arriving late as usual,  we cobbled together a "Mexrace" set up from the "Mosrace" set up with a few adjustments to gears , ride height, bump stops and so on which was good for P3 grid slot.

The race start was good and was settling in nicely when the dreaded "screen shake" reared its ugly head , no idea what causes this eye wrecking symptom but its akin to driving with 4 square wheels , almost impossible to concentrate on apex and breaking etc. We struggled along nicely untill Peralta when a rpidly closing Burt got by me while trying to negotiate a wayward BM and stay on the track . For a while the screen went OK again and I was closing up on Burt again when the engine decided enough was enough , then trying to get to the trackside to s/r before the pits (in a cloud of smoke ) I managed to drive across the path of S Blood who obviously couldnt see me for all the smoke and engine bits ( sorry old chap)
From there on it was downhill all the way spoiling what might have been a fantastic soggies day out .

Grats to the pods and the rest of SBR team players  Smiley

A good race with plenty of incidents and a few more points in the bag for the Soggies Smiley What better way to start the week.

I found myself in P4 for the start but as usual threw away all the effort by spinning on the first lap - and in the worst possible place, at the hairpin. I finished up at right angles to the track and straddling the racing line. I gritted my teeth in expectation of an almighty wallop but the other drivers were skillful enough to avoid me so I was able to drive away undamaged but way down the field.

I chased Jack for a few laps and outbraked him on L7 T1 but overcooked it and started to slide towards him. Fortunately Jack had left me plenty of room so a collision was avoided and I was able to squeeze past him on the next lap. Progress thereafter was down to the blown engines and offs of other drivers whilst avoiding spinning backmarkers and ShiftRing team mates Grin

My G25 is due tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to finding out what difference it will make - fewer lockups on braking I hope. I just hope that I don't lose too many fillings when the FF and the ButtKicker that I also use kick in scared

Great race for me, was very dissappointed at the start with my qualifying pace, being 8th on grid with a 1:53, when i easily done 1:49s in Cooper.

Made about 2-3 places up off the start, i made places up to Micheal Turner and Ian Stanley, and found myself in 5th at end of the 1st lap.

On lap 2, Diki Waza, went off at turn one and that gave me 4th place, chasing Bernie who was ahead in 3rd.

Lap 4, I overtake Bernie whos having a devil of a time trying to overtake James Andrew at the last corner.

Somehow I find myself in 2nd place when Sam Blood disappeared for some reason, and already Rik was like 25 seconds ahead of me, so I brought the Cooper home in 2nd place, for my 2nd podium in a row, which puts me in a nice position in the table.

Soggies 2nd and 3rd, grats to Mike, and well what could of been even better if Bernie didnt have problems too.

Also I never had any problems with my race, no blown engines, only 1-2 times hitting barrier but nothing ever serious enough to cause me any problems Cheesy

I was naff again.  'nuff said really.

Other than screwing myself over, I think I stayed clear of everyone, perhaps except Ian S.  I'd spun and was once again perched at the edge of the racing line deja vu Watkins, Ian was racing up behind and think he clipped a wheel on the way past, but looked to keep it together, just about.  Sorry Ian if it caused any problems.

Just can't seem to get a grip with 67's.  The Eagle is good and fast, but that might be the problem, maybe I shold give a slower chassis a go, see what happens.  I'll get some practice laps in at Le Mans and see how they feel.

That was definately my best performance so far in online racing. After qualifying 2nd I was just going to try and finish the race without any spins. After hounding Rik for the first half of the lap I began to lose ground on him but was comfortable in second place. Sadly after on lap 4 or 5 I downshifted into first too early for the hairpin which detonated the engine. After a shift R and a stop n go I was down to 5th. I began to make ground through the misfortune of others. I tried to pass Diki on the last corner but knew it wasn't going to happen so I braked early but fortunately for me, he went into the corner slightly wide and that gave me room to pass through. Then a couple laps later after approaching Bernie his engine gave up the ghost. I expected him to stay on the racing line so I went for the inside but unfortunately he went towards the inside as well and we crashed. I am sorry about that but I guess it's a racing incident.

After a few laps I was catching Burt but for some reason while driving down the straight flat out in 6th, I got a load of neutrals which caused my second engine to explode! After another stop n go I found myself down in 8th but thanks to a couple of overtakes and Dave running out of petrol on the last lap, I managed to salvage 5th which wasn't too bad after those calamities.

No probs Sam , I didnt see you in all the smoke until too late, maybe I should have waited for you to pass before moving across , bit of a dumb ass move from me there  Shocked
Wasnt sure where to go or what to do really , the Cooper engine is usually rock solid for me , must have buzzed it up shifting and I could only think of the 3 PPP's

Another poor effort, I just wasn't able to get within a second of my best pace at either of the Mexico races, I may have been slightly faster here.  At least I didn't hit anything, but it was embarrassing to have been 'odd man out' on the Reed fuel allocation, especially after warning my teammates that 12 gallons would 'only just' make it... wisely they took this as a cue to fuel more.  Reed are taking podium-dodging to new heights this season though, it can't last, there must be an upper limit to Loot's capacity for rage at the incompetence of his drivers!

Please take the time to post on the membership survey thread here, as it affects Clubmans:
https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5376.0;viewResults

With as few as 4-5 D1 only drivers this season and Clubmans making up the rest, a single 67 division might be a consideration, so I'd like to know why Clubmans is preferred- is it the similar ability levels, the rules system, int level, shorter distance, or any other factor?
