Moderator's Report

A lonely race for Sam, despite the added Hondas of Geoff and Pete, who wouldn't normally be considered beginners. Asbjeurn, Norbert and Steve Bird, the more usual competition, all had problems.

Geoff and Pete might be too fast for the Novices in Hondas- though at least they shouldn't improve! Next season the more experienced drivers will be in BT7s or Coopers, perhaps I should have asked them to drop cars this season, it remains an option.

Solid debut by Clutch for third. I also noticed Martin going off at Scirie to avoid Mike after Mike had braked early- well done there.

Drivers seemed to be in the pits for often obscure sngs, and I'm sure Martin perfomed one simply because that car ahead had stopped? I also suspect that Steve Busa owed me one after a collision with a tree, but since he was lapped and it wouldn't affect the results, I'll allow someone else to have done Steve's extra sng, there were enough to go round.

Server replay time: 0h01m30s

L1 Nouveau Monde

Al has an unusual line at the hairpin, perhaps affected by Mike stuck on the polos. Steve Busa rear-ends him, though the contact is slight and Al is able to stay on track.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m56s

L1 approaching Sanson

Steve Bird slides and spins on the grass- though he seems to be pointing in the right direction his rear wheels are still on the grass and when he presses the throttle he rejoins straight into Vlad- he should have braked and waited.

No penalty on Vlad's request, with no other drivers affected. However, drivers should be aware that if they fail to brake and stop when there are following cars, in order to attempt a quick rejoin, they will be penalised under most circumstances.

Server replay time: 0h12m59s

L6 Six-Freres

Norbert's error allows Steve Busa past, but he cuts back in too soon before Norbert has appeared in his mirrors, and in a braking zone. Norbert was well over on his side and only seems to rear-end Steve later because of the earlier contact.

Steve's peculiar recovery distracts the approaching Steve Bird and he ends up in the polos- enough for him to avoid any yellow card points.

  • Steve Busa — Simple side-by-side contact — 1 place lost

Server replay time: 0h19m51s

L9 Nouveau Monde

Steve Busa is on the polos and reverses before Steve Bird is past, there is slight contact but Steve keeps it on the track.

I've classed this as if there was no contact, but drivers should be aware that in a race they are liable to be disqualified if they reverse on track- don't, if there are other cars nearby, you might not be able to spot trailing cars.

  • Steve Busacaution — Inconsiderate Bad Rejoin

Server replay time: 0h21m31s

L9 Paradis

Steve Busa rear-ends Vlad, who was on the inside after passing him and had to slow. Steve was in Vlad's mirrors, so Vlad had the right to come across the track, he had also left room for Steve on the outside.

I've classed this as a simple shunt as Steve struggled with his Lotus all race- Steve if you want to change chassis you have the option, but perhaps you might profit from altering your wheel setup?

  • Steve Busapenalty — Simple Rear End Shunt — 1 place lost

You need a copy of the game to have Rouen available.

If I didn't already have the big box version I'd be tempted by this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GRAND-PRIX-LEGENDS-rare-BIG-box_W0QQitemZ310087216087QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS?hash=item310087216087&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1297%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

There is an option with Rouen historic to have the wider pits, use that.  If you use the proper pits you won't be able to join.

That guy on ebay also has Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 1 & 2.......GP 1 got me started on all this.....*sigh*

I started as early as I saw Grand Prix Circuit from Accolade I think, around 1990. Though I liked playing car games even before that in my childhood, that was the first "proper" title I put my hands on. Also Test Drive by the same company. Classic!  Smiley

GP2 is my all time fav modern f1 sim though, I played it so much it's scary. There are so many mods and things made from fans for it it's fascinating. There used to be a program that'd record the time you spend in-game and sum it up on game exit, so the counter kept increasing everytime you'd play.
I bought the game in 96. Played it extensively until 2003 or so. I used that time counter program just in the last years, but I just for an evidence - somewhere around 1999-2001, for just over an year, I had 2 months of in-game time. In other words out of 14 or so months I spent 2 full months in GP2.  Shocked Can't begin to imagine how much time of my life I spent overall in that brilliant sim... scary!  Embarrassed

Had it for the Amiga.

One question about stop and go rules: Yesterday I had a go at Rouen (yes, guys, I'm finally back online), and spun just after a turn. The driver behind me had no chance of avoiding me and crashed into me, so I had to shift-r. Maybe he also needed a shift-r, I don't know, but that's not the point. Since I was the cause of both the crash and my shift-r, I took a stop and go, just to make sure, but I'm not sure if I needed to.

I'm not going to make this one (this being my 1st GPL Race), I've just not had a chance to put in any practice & it sure is different to GTL/GTR2  Cheesy
I hope to get up to a level I feel suitable to be your back-marker for Silverstone in two weeks. Have a good race guys & thanks for all the encouragement all us new boys have been getting.  Smiley

As i have signed up i do not have any password s and wonder if i am allowed to join.?

If you have an oversubscribed race i can offer GBGPL s server but i would have to run in VROC.

The race password should be at the top of the thread.. its usually available 24 hours before a race.  I have got two servers confirmed- thanks for the offer though Pete.

Asbjeurn, in your example, if you hadn't damaged the car yourself you would be allowed a free reset.  If the driver behind you had no warning or yellow flag, so would he.

Legzy, even if you're not confident no-one will be upset if you have a go!

Thanks, Jack.

At last, after a lot of work, I finally got to clear a spot in the new apartment for my cockpit. Sadly we don't have as much space now as we had in the house we were renting before, so I had to let go of the comfy armchair I sat in before:

and swap it with a garden chair:

I've just tested it for a short five-lap race, and my bottom didn't feel to well after that, so I'm not sure if I will stand the distance of a whole race. Possibly my legs will fall asleep before halfway.

First race in GPl !
Really enjoyed it but I think only having had the sim for 3 days and not knowing half the commands etc. was not the bet plan!
Qualified 9th with a PB, 2.09 something!
Good start but had this nagging feeling I
Hadn't loaded enough fuel!? Thought I may have had only 5 laps! not knowing the sim I entered the pits after 5 laps just in case there was a fill option! Obviously not! lol I learn!  Cheesy
So carried on, had a few minor moments but a few laps from the end, seemed to get stuck on the tyres at the hairpin and retired!
Would shift R have helped me there? Is there anyway to get off!?
Dissapointing to not finish at all  :'(

Good fun though! I'll be back!  Wink

Yes Shift R is the only way off the tyres, as it sounds like you did a stop/go before the tyre got you i wonder if you needed to do one at all .? If you shift R ed of course , would be good to know if i have that trouble.
I was not sure after my shift R if i had to pit so did anyway think that may have saved a penalty .
Good race for me to 5th much better than i expected . My only error was endng upside down on the back stretch mid race, you know wheel on the grass and round it goes lol.

PB'ed in the qualy and got second spot on the grid, behind Sam.

Start was OK, tucked in behind Sam and tried to keep up with him, but had a few bad exits, so he got a few seconds gap. During the fight I remembered I had forgotten to fill the tank, so I had only five laps worth of fuel. So then I shift-r'ed and stop and go'ed (stop and went?) down the field. Only just managed to catch a few cars, but had to shift-r before I could start a real fight, so it wasn't one of my greatest nights, to be honest. Ended up eighth, which was okay, after all. At least my behind didn't protest too much, so the garden chair isn't that bad. Smiley
