Moderator's Report

Conratulations to Hristo for another Cooper win and his first. The Coopers were more competitive at Rouen than had been feared and John hounded Natan's Lotus until a slip at the hairpin deprived the spectators of a great duel. Nicky held up Tim in another extended dice until Tim was able to pass, but this was too late for Tim to close the gap to Natan enough to fight for second. Storm suffered most from the accident at the hairpin otherwise he might also have been in contention.

This was possibly the best race we've had so far, and with adjustments to other allocated chassis should be even closer. I wouldn't expect Clermont to be nearly as entertaining.

Server replay time: 0h09m53s

L5 Nouveau Monde

Nicky spins into the hairpin and Tim is right behind and cannot avoid him. Though the yellow flag hadn't come out Storm could see the two car accident ahead and might have slowed further, however he was unlucky that the minor contact with Tim left him in an awkward position on the polos, and even more unlucky that when he reversed quickly to clear the track he chose the wrong direction.

I posted a setup and lap for the BT11 on SBRC Race School Bernie.  You have to wring their necks.

Not having watched the reply to see what you were upto, but I'd hazard a guess you need to brake earlier for every corner barring the hairpin  yes

Exit speed is particularily important exiting Sanson as you shouldn't need to go near the brakes again till Scierie. Unless you're in a Ferrari then you need a decent jump onto the straight   Wink
T1 and T2 maybe worth checking as they're quite tricky to carry maximum speed though. T1 requires very little slowing for - I was taking it in 6th in the Honda. T2 is even harder to get right as you have that huge dip to contend with if you go too fast  Grin

As I said I havn't seen any of your laps so I may have it wrong for you  Grin

Yeah, in my Honda T1 requires no brakes just a lift at the start of the rubber marks then neutral throttle toward the apex then full chat to T2.

T2 I know I lose time but my setup is not refined enough. I brake, go down 2 gears then get straight back on the throttle while sticking my arms, feet, legs and head out of the left hand side for ballast.

Yeah, it's all about early acceleration, so hit early apex and floor it, pointing as straight as possible. Late braking and going wide loses you chunks of time, even at the hairpins. Watching some replays helps I guess.

Surely you mean late apex for early acceleration Hristo?  Smiley

I found the Hairpin at Nouveau Monde particularily tricky as you have to brake early-drift on the throttle to loose more speed through the left hander-then brake hard as possible for the hairpin proper. By the end of the race I found I was taking the complex significantly faster than the guys I raced with.
If anything I find that corner harder in the 65's than the 67's!

Any chance of a numpty graph Clive?  Grin

Did yours yesterday Alastair.

It's the Amateurs that we are short of.

Edit:  And I am not going to download the whole replay just to produce a report when I wasn't even in the race.  Any offers?

If you're using the beginner's setups then its probably the setup Bernie as they're not very lively- they're only intended to help with the first time around a circuit.

The Amateurs grid was quite close and I wonder whether Clermont will produce as good a race- perhaps we should retain Rouen next season?  I've also been contemplating Montjuic for a race next season- we should make more use of this fabulous creation.  It might make a useful alternative to Monaco- while Montjuic is harder in the bigger cars, it might be easier in the 65s?

A chassis allocation league should improve as it gets older- however next season will be the first time UKGPL have run two allocation seasons one after another.  I would have prefererred to have had at least one more season of the 40th anniversary system for the 67s as well.

Really enjoyed Rouen, I would very much like to keep it for next season.

Will there still be 2 servers next season?

Depends on the numbers Al, sometimes they drop off after the first season.  On the other hand I'd hope that we'd continue to attract beginner drivers, also the 65 mod will be patched at some point which should create interest.  If its patched with slipstream it will be great, though this would require a long pre-release phase, and there doesn't seem to be any testing going on.

If we have the same numbers or more in season 17 then I'd want to split into a pro grid and a int grid, though it would seem better to have the same schedule so that they can stage practices together.  Then it would be possible to organise chassis allocation based on separate grids to encourage closer racing- the Cooper and BT7 would be available for the Novices.
