Moderator's Report

Summary

Another flag to flag victory for Rik Briant to bring his total to three wins for the season so far. Now lying second in the championship, the chassis restrictions will make further wins harder to get. Second place goes to Sam Blood after another fine drive in the BRM. Jack O'Ferrall managed to claim third spot on the podium and another bottle of bubbly for Lord Loot.

A special mention must go to Bernie, who after a disastrous start worked his way up from last place to finish fourth thus maintaining his grip on the top of the table.

Server replay time: 0h00m59s

Lap 1 - Riches - Ian Stanley, Geoff Herd and Robert Burton

Ian has the inside line on the approach to Riches, he manages to achieve 100% overlap in the braking zone and the cars are side by side through the first apex. Ian maintains a very tight line to the point of mounting the kerb. Geoff aims his Brabham at the second apex and moves over into Ian. Contact is made and Geoff spins out. Ian retains control but has lost considerable momentum and is very slow on the exit of Riches. This catches out Burt who can't slow down and he rear-ends Ian.

Geoff couldn't see Ian in his mirrors once they were negotiating Riches but he should have known he was there and driven accordingly. In fact he appears to do so through the first apex but not the second. Ian is visible in Geoff's mirrors on the run up to Riches and can clearly be seen moving up the inside in the braking zone. It is not an easy skill to learn but Geoff needed to allow for Ian's BRM even though he couldn't see it. The lead driver must assume a car is along side unless it can be clearly seen in the mirrors. Consequently, the primary responsibility for the incident must lie with Geoff and is covered in the Penalty Guidelines by "Simple Side by Side Contact Scenario 4". However given that Ian had lost some of his advantage by wobbling about on the kerbs, it could be argued that the place was still being contested. Consequently the penalty is being relaxed in this case.

Burt rear ending Ian was a secondary incident and no blame can be apportioned to either driver. Consequently Ian is entitled to a no fault Shift R. Geoff would not normally be entitled to a no fault Shift R.

Server replay time: 0h21m25s

Lap 13 - Pit Lane - Craig Thomas

After blowing his engine on the previous lap, Craig pulls into the pits to complete his Stop and Go. But he stops in the pit lane rather than in the stalls.

Server replay time: 0h21m49s

Lap 14 - Russell - Steve Busa and Steve Bird

Steve Busa looses it in Russell and is marooned in the middle of the track. Steve Bird is approaching and has to take drastic avoiding action which results in him clipping the pit wall. This damages his Brabham and he needs to take a shift R to extricate himself from the Armco.

Steve Bird is entitled to a no fault Shift R.

Season 16  Clubman's Cup - Round 6 - Snetterton

The first round of the championship to be held on British soil.  There's sure to be a generous supply of pies transported in from Wigan.  Rumour has it that one of the local boys is partial to a bit of pastry and his mechanics are not too happy about the prospect of having to keep him away from the catering vans.

There were one or two rash moves made in the last round.  Please take your time to plan an attack, there are some good overtaking opportunities at this track so there is no need to be too hasty.

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:25 p.m (UK London Time = GMT).

I have posted an Eagle lap and setup by Dave Wilkinson here:-
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?p=3924962#post3924962

It is a non-alien setup and at 1:24.13 is well worth a look.

A rather eventful race for everyone by the looks of things. My race was reasonable, although made too many errors for my liking. I had a good start from the front row and managed to pass Rik into the lead. It remained that way for a few laps until I lost the rear under braking for the hairpin. Rik clipped the back of my car but there was little he could do as I spun out in front of him and we both continued without problem. I remained about 6-7 seconds behind until about lap 15 where I had a severe brain fade by running wide at the first corner and spun out as a result. I then went one better at the Russel chicane as I ran wide, clipped the curb, went airbourne, ploughed into the barrier and spun several times on the home straight only for a hapless Burt to crash into me! All this in one lap! I then took a calm and steady approach for the rest of the race as I didn't want to ruin anyone else's race and crossed over the line in 2nd place. Not a too bad result, but I am deeply sorry Burt for causing another collsion with you in two successive races.

It was my first race with UKGPL and I must say that it was alot of fun. With the exception of a practice race yesterday, it was my also my first online race with GPL. Started in the back of the field as planned and was able to drive around the carnage on lap 1 and managed to find a nice gap to "lap" in until traffic started catching me. I'll have to admit that I was overly cautious, as you guys came up on me, so tried to stay out of your way. I didn't want to take anyone out in my first race, especially this late in the season.
I had a great time, finished the race 8 (Q12) and am really looking forward to Kaylami.
I hope I didn't hold anyone up...

Arrived late on the grid tired and bedragled after a w/e of debauchery  Roll Eyes Managed to qually next to last so had a great view of the start from where I got away well and was progressing nicely towards T1 but was suprised to discover the 200 yd. maker for T1 was in my flight path and worse still to my complete amazement it was also  made of solid stuff  Shocked

The result was a 3 wheel Coop so a quick s/r was called for which I performed with no probs as I was now in the rear gunner position .

Having recovered I was pleased to see so many cars and drivers who were obviously feeling sorry for my mistake and had all decided to wait for me to catch up, in fact they were so keen to help they was actually fighting each other to assist my recovery  (thanks guys)  Cheesy All this left me in about 5th place but the resulting pit in for my startline error put me back in 8th (not sure what the rules are her or if the mods will penalise me further for a lap 1 own fault s/r ? )

So as the race progressed I picked up a few more places thanks mostly to others mistakes rather than my own efforts , having survived an early attack by Burtmeister the disgruntled who soon fell away I found myself closing in on the battle for 3rd between Steve and Jack O'  . Steve had some kind of argument with the pit lane barrier so giving me another place (tough luck mate )  I tried closing Jacko's well driven BRM down but then developed a dose of finger cramp (agin  Roll Eyes so had to slow a little to avoid driving off the track , in the end I was very pleased with my 4th place finish , quite unexpected  really .

Grats to Rik, Sam and the ever improving JackO' and to all others who managed to cross the finish line of this tricky little circuit still in one piece.

 Smiley

Forgot to add 4th ,5th and 6th places for the soggies , well done chaps  Grin

Not a bad race overall for me.

I managed to get up to 4th in qualifying and got away cleanly, avoiding the carnage behind at T1.

Lap 2 saw Ian Docherty run wide at the Esses and I got through to run P3!  Had a comfortable gap behind due to the L1 T1 incident and settled in to put some consistent laps in and see if I could pull off a podium!

Saw no one again until L9 when I found Geoff leaving pit lane, he backed off in to Sear and let me through to continue on my way.

A few further quiet laps with the occasional glimpse of Steve Busa up ahead but wasn't closing at any great pace.  Steve sadly span at the end of L14 exiting Russell, I tried to avoid and went to the inside but caught the pit lane barrier.  The rear right was stuck fast and I had to shift R.

Jack O'F had closed right in and I was back to full tanks and cold tyres.  I tried to hold him off but made too many mistakes and he got through.

More mistakes followed and Bernie took advantage soon after to put me P5 where I stayed to the end.

Not sure if I'll keep P5 as I didn't stop/go, in the hope that it may be deemed a no fault reset.  We'll see.

Once again, I enjoyed the Brabham, and intend to stay with that for now.

Cheers all.

Enjoyed my Forth online race.

Almost through the T1 antics without incident, but clipped the rear of a spinning car. Got straightened out and pressed on through some lonely laps, began to catch a couple of cars,
Got close, Got excited, 4 Got about braking points, Got s/r and did s/g.
Back in the game and mid race was just about holding B1rd at distance and then lost it on final turns lap 13 or 14, B1rd hit armco, sorry for spinning mate.

Improved my best race lap at Snetterton.

Finished in 9th,
Enjoyed the race,
Try and improve for next Time!!!
Cheers

Also arrived late for Qually. managed to get 3-4 laps in with a mid 28 good enough for 6th.

At the start, got away slow then back into the pack for T1. Held the inside alongside Geoff (I think) as we got to the exit a combo of me moving out slightly and Geoff moving in caused a tag and the scrap heap that followed.
Think I had Burt and Bernie behind me after the dust cleared. Made another error later on the lap/early L2 to put me at the back.
From then on, just tried to keep it clean. Made a couple of spots due to others pitting. Then had to pit myself due to a reset - yeh, I failed to keep it clean.
Eventually finished up 8th after Craig let me through towards the end - only afterwards found out it was for position!

Congrats to Rik on the win and Sam & Jack for showing SBRC the way home - Lord Loot was cock-a-hoop.

Not sure yet if I can make Kyalami - work may intervene, postponed from this weekend.

Really sorry that I missed this one as I had downloaded that track only last week and I love trying new tracks. Oh well. It seems a popular circuit so I'm sure it'll come back around.

Talking of new tracks, the Clubmans is due to visit Brands Hatch in a few rounds' time. I've downloaded it and like it but I see there are a couple of versions with differing lengths (~50m). The shorter version is the oldest and is the one from ChallengeRank. Unfortunately I've grabbed the longer one and I'm betting that I need the shorter one for our race, yes?

Cheers.

P.S.
I see that there are also two versions of Snetterton Heath available - '67 and '64. Which were we supposed to use?

I hope you'll be able to make the last race before the Xmas break James!  The folders for the tracks we use are 'brands67' and 'snett67'.

I had an okay race, had to slow at T1 to avoid the accident then made up places without managing to pass anyone.  I had a good cushion in third at the end and was enjoying a tow from Steve when he decided that I just had to pass him, no I simply must, and I got Bombhole slightly wrong and was very lucky not to spin.

With the dissension in the Soggies ranks REED will be chasing the Clubmans team title in the last races, though Steve Bird seems to have taken coaching and there are dark rumours from our mechanics that he has improved to a distressing extent!  Nothing but victory will please Loot though!
