That'll teach you for driving the wrong way James  Grin  Cheesy .
Paul, I agree that the lower spec Mustangs have more understeer as do the lower spec Falcons, but it is possible to remove a lot of it, its just a lot more difficult because they have no rear arb.
I managed to keep the tyres good because I was using the harder 184's not the soft 970's. mid to high 90's all around....just right  Wink

A more twisty track should be the next one to test when driving the TC60 class, with the upper TC60's not included. ( Mann Falcon, TransAM Mustang, Alfa GTA)

I believe a closer race would be had by all. But these are still just test races so it is all useful information.

If we are driving th Gt's next time however, any chance of a track idea asap so I can give feedback?

No problems at all for me.  Ran smooth as silk and lets hope this will replace the ageing GTL which I am a huge fan of.

Mostly a lonely race for me with Tinman behind and BA Baracus and spanner in front in their yank tanks.  Tinman was always there but managed to catch BA Baracus and took him before he retook me as I locked up and Tinman swiftly followed.  So close to 6th place but yet so far away and finally finished 8th.

Grats to podium and bring on the next test.

Bring back GTR2!

Great turn out for this race, partly I guess due to people wanting to see this new P&G in action & partly due to is being the 1st race for three weeks (it was always going to be a big turn out). Shame for the people that didn't get in  Sad next time I hope!

My race was alright. Half the cars were missing on the left side of the grid in front of me (Escaping back to the pits then joining the track again didn't help) & the little green lights (is it possible to have the count down?) were so far in the distance from the 12th row... I didn't notice them go green. Not a bad thing on this occasion as I didn't want to tangle with one of the cars I couldn't see. So instantly lost four places from the line.
Was happy turning corners in the Alpha having made the front of the car as soft as possible & the rear as rigid as possible (I've found this to be the requirement of each of the cars I tried... which somewhat takes the art out of setups... i hope it's not the case with all of them), so managed to make up the places I'd lost & a few more as I found the pace I didn't have in qually. Had a little bit of racing with Oilseal (Stang) & Ade (Cortina), depending on which one of us ran a little wide or was on a roll at the time till the end.

Conclusion - This test race has opened many more questions about P&G then it has answered for me. I'm still a long way from jumping ship on GTL.

I'm really impressed with the P&G mod, even though the only car I've tried so far is the Alfa. The car seems to respond to imputs better than in GTL. Only downside seems to be that the cars are not quite so evenly matched as they are in GTL. Having said that, Brno is quite a power track, should be different on a more twisty track.

With very little time to practice & get used to P&G, I was surprised to be the fastest Alfa in qually with a 32.8. But things didn't go so good after that! I got on the grid & realised I had never done a start in GTR2 before & didn't know how it worked Huh . So there I was wondering what happens & not watching the start lights & suddenly everyone is off down the road Shocked, so my 8th in qually suddenly becomes about 15th by T1.

Got things together & gained one or two places on the first couple of laps before getting on the grass at the inside of the last turn & spinning, which dropped me to around 18th Sad. Got a place or two back & got into a good dice with Laslow & we managed to reel in the huge battle going on ahead featuring several Alfas & a Mustang. We just got in amongst the battle when I lost control under braking for the long RHer at the bottom of the track & went off into the barriers.

Rejoined just in front of Ade's Cortina & quickly pulled away from him (shame the Cortina is not a bit more competitive). Caught & passed one Mustang & by the start of the last lap I had Numster's 'stang in sight. I was right with him half way round the lap but thought I had lost my chance when I hadn't got past him before the final uphill section. But he was slow into the final ess-bend & I drove around the 'stang in the first bit to grab the inside for the second part & just held on at the line by three hundreths  Grin.

Congrats to the podium. And apart from those who had technical probs, looks like everyone finished!

Eager for some more P&G now, have to try a few other cars tonight, can't wait Grin

Where is the next race?

The hours spent mucking about in the mustang over the last week must have helped Smiley

I also got CTD during qualification half way through, not sure how it decided who to affect as clearly most people stayed connected. Mine just locked up and needed a PC reset to get back to life. When i rejoined i must have had one of the few places remaining though it still seemed it was chucking people out after that.

Managed to get a good lap in with low fuel to line me up a surprising 5th, though the horrible start let BA and Shark through and the alfas nipping at my heals. Then found myself managing to stay with Shark but he managed to get past BA. and i had a good scrap trying to get past but the mustang was difficult to be consistent in and the front grip was slowly disappearing and was almost realed back in by the chasing alfa's but seemed to keep the gap constant ahead.
I guess the track did flatter the mustang as with the long corners you could turn it in with the throttle and control the drift through the exit with constant correction. Almost felt like rallying at times! Being super smooth didnt seem to be the fastest and the fronts were wearing more than the rears.

I think we need a poll to decide if Oily should be put back in his rightful finishing position Grin

Hi Chaps,
That lovely TransAm Mustang would have been my choice of weapon, but as a good number of dudes had chosen that car already,  I selected the Falcon Sprint instead (just to ensure there where no issues between its purple paint and the server).

As for the race – much fun Smiley  I quail’ed in 20th? But had a fantastic start – thanks to 307bhp and not too much wheel spin I managed to blast my way to 8th  or 9th. Mark’s TransAm was soon hot on my heals – and I did my best to hold my track position – but I soon ran slightly wide into T1…and I didn’t have a enough bhp in the long drag race down to T2.
Then came the Alfa’s! – 4 of them! (evert/pribeiro/jpv/czork)  – a real plan in the arse for my whole race…. Power vs handling. Some good battles and great simracing fun during them laps. Evert managed  to pass me…and once there was a gap he was gone, must of been 2s per lap quicker. Still I gave the three others tough time….and just managed to hold on to 10th place  Grin

So an entertaining race for me. The only issues i had where >

1.   Invisible cars at the start of the race
2.   GTR2/P&G2 seems to CTD far too easily (maybe a GTR2 issue?)

So everyone from 3rd onwards can tell me where to stick my reverse driving antics - I'll take my chances with a half cut Psuedo ta Wink

Good to see ya back btw Keith, was hoping for some mirror swapping in the Stangs again but fair play for choosing the ocean liner.

I would beg to differ on that, none of the setups I created followed that way of thinking, the cars just have so little control by doing it like that, you'd be far better off selecting a mid stiff setup all around to control roll/weight transfer and then adjust camber, castor, toe, diff and arb to create your turn in and exit characteristics.

By doing it this way you will find the car behaves better over lap with more consistency.

For better turn in a reasonably low diff coast, lower Castor, more negative front camber, negative front toe and more rear brake bias will help more than a soft front/stiff rear setup.

Obviously you tune it to how you like to drive, but you will notice the difference over the default setup.

If any of you Alfa drivers are interested a WIP setup of mine is uploaded to the online Brno folder in P&G, its not excessively pointy but it is very precise and able to do a 2.30.8 around Brno in my Hands and Ossie used it with minor tweaks last night and was able to to a very creditable 2.33 in quali, but more telling was his ability to consistently do 2.33 to 2.34 in the race, he told me that the tyres had very little performance drop off (very useful), with a bit more track time I have no doubt he would be in the low 32's to high 31's in quali trim.

Indeed my Falcon setup is also built around the same criteria, I was able to consistently drive in the mid 2.30's during the race and this setup isn't very soft at the front/ very stiff at the rear.

Just a couple things.

It helps us to keep the car choices openish for these tests to obtain as much info as possible. Its also interesting to hear whats popular and whats not. There was a fair splattering of choices last night and hope we see such imaginative choices in further testing, it all helps in the long run.

For initial testing, we should run vanilla tracks so we are rather limited to modern GT tracks Wink We will move on to add on tracks, plenty to choose from Smiley, once a firm base has been proven I guess.

Details of another test soon Smiley

Thanks for that, a great night's racing.

I had a red stop sign initially and checked my installation to make sure I had the terrrain patch fitted.  When I tried a second time the red symbol came up and disappeared and allowed me to enter and drive.  Was CTD with a number of other drivers when the GTR 2 sever was switch off.  Other than that all went well.

I liked the original P&G and was disappointed that no one seemed interested in racing it.  I thought it had died a natural death but the team persevered and V2.0 is great.  I got caught out on the start on the public servers with the lights so knew what to expect last night.  Sorry W Tony I smashed your ns rear lamp at the start and had a good view of it for most of the race.  Then Sandor popped out of the sand after you got by and my lift and swerve meant I lost touch and also Sandor started to nibble so I lost touch completely.  After a short battle Sandor's tyres appeared to be shot and I got away again.  Near the end W Tony had an off allowing me to close the gap but not enough.

Good fun - more!!

I stopped playing GTL because I didn't feel like driving a car, it feels like steering a boat for me - maybe GTR(2) spoiled me in this. Before you start jumping on me let me say that PnG returned some of the joy, though I didn't get back on the server in time to race. I'll try the next race and see if I can drive these cars. I had a pace of 33s in the Alfa in race setup in practice sessions so I'd be there somewhere.

I'm not going back to GTL. Now you can start jumping...  Wink

TT

Couldn't agree more TT Cool   GTLs came off my drive after I tried this, and has provided the enthusiasm to enter some 'good old racing,' as long as one can join the server in time :'(

Just a question, was the GTR2 server active then switched off at the time the CTD's happened.
If so it may be advisable to switch it off beforehand to see if it makes any difference next time.

The mass CTD during practice seemed to happen at the same time I closed the normal GTR2 server.
It will be interesting to see if the same thing happens next time.
