Had a corking race!
Did my usual trick of getting my car setup earlier in the week and finding good pace, only to not get near the track and car combo for the next 3 days.
Jumped straight in during qually and struggled to get myself into the 'zone' but gradually found some pace to qually quite well.
Race started well with plenty of action in the atrocious (but excellent!) weather conditions. Saw the track was flooded so had gone for soft wets all round and they were the smart choice
By lap 7 i was chasing Madd for 3rd or 4th until i stupidly double-downshifted at the hairpin
the car beached itself on the high kerbs/wet grass between the apexs and it took me about 20-30 seconds to rejoin and i had dropped to 8th. I had also cooked my rears in wheelspin :'(
chased Simons Fezza and reign mans warp-zooming car which freaked me out a few times as i took avoiding action of his stationary-ghosting car
Saw Simon spank into one ghost and he quickly retired, allowing me to chase off after the front 6 again.
By 1hour i was upto 3rd place, despite two spins at 'spoon' on very worn and hot rears.
The fresh rainfall was a godsend ! Ive never had a set of softs last me that long in a race, but that late rain just cooled them enough to get me to my scheduled stop.
I stayed 3rd for a considerable time and with a healthy 1.5-2minutes lead over 4th onwards when i finally pitted with about 23 minutes remaining, for fuel and a new set of soft wets.
I couldnt believe it when i saw API and Peter zoom past as i was leaving my pitbox !...i was outraged !!
I then drove like a man possessed on my new rubber and set about making up the 17 second deficit to them, which i managed, and found myself on APIs gearbox. He ran deep and wide at Spoon allowing me past up the inside after a few laps battling closely.
I was literally pumped with adrenalin by now
!!...Then i had to catch Peters TVR with only about 7 minutes remaining and i enjoyed a great little battle with him for the last few laps, until about 2 laps from the end, when he caught a backmarker at Lycee and unfortunately went into a half spin that i only very narrowly avoided joining him in
..I 'just' caught it in time and slipped through to take my 3rd place back
Was very happy to cross the line with a podium on the opening round and in such treacherous conditions, made even better as a team mate was on the podium with me...a great 1st round for the Legends.
I rue-ed those spins in the middle of the race othewise i might have given TT a good run for his money
Well done to Gazza for a dominating win
and good work by all the other drivers that managed to finish.
