UKGPL Season 17 - Pre-Season fun race - 65 mod - Imola

This is a fun race for some pre-season practice and also to test UKGPL6 prior to the start of the season. It is being run on Sunday rather than Tuesday due to the Monza 66 re-run on 17/2 and LBGPL race 24/2

If you have problems installing the 65 mod, just post on the thread. If you haven't used the 65 cars before, be aware that though they're far easier to drive, they have no proper default setups of their own- you'll have to download one, or alter the gearing.  There are default setups available if you need one, just use the link below.

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:40 p.m.
(You will need to set up a channel called #ukgpl if you haven't already done so)
IGOR and Race passwords: no race password

Server 6.ukgpl
IP address  tba

Race date = 15-02-2009, 9pm
Track =  Imola
Variant = 65mod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qually time = 30 minutes.
Race length = Int-Long (20 laps)

Download the track from: http://gpltd.bcsims.com/?dis=I

Chassis assignments: any chassis you like

New 65 Patch: This is likely to be released shortly - as this is a fun race if it is available you can use it...

65 Mod

The 1965 season was the last to use the controversial 1500cc formula which had begun after 1960, to the initial advantage of Ferrari.  The 1965 cars are smaller than the 1967 cars and have less torque and hence more grip.  It was claimed that they 'cornered on rails', however this allowed the Grand Prix series to retain the use of circuits which were otherwise to prove extremely dangerous.

The 1965 cars are ideal for those new to GPL as they allow the tracks to be learnt in light reliable cars, however these are also full Formula One cars, and quite fast....  Jim Clark won the 1965 Belgian Grand Prix from in a Lotus.  Graham Hill took pole in his BRM P261 with a time of 3'45.4 .  The 1965 distance was 32 laps.

David Wright's 'Legends' site http://fp.gplegends.plus.com/ has the download of the most recent 2.0.1 version (under 'details') as well as being an exceptional guide to both 1965 and 1967, for those interested in Formula One history.

Unfortunately the current 65 mod download does not have default setups.  Default setups for all the cars and tracks that are likely to be used can be downloaded from http://www.neurology-crew.com/gplserver under '65 setups'.  Note that you will have to add enough fuel for the race, whether short or long!

Is anyone else getting problems downloading and installing Imola???

It appears to load ok, but, if I select Imola in GEM  ( and it shows as Imola in my Season file) and open GPL, I end up at Jarama??!!..or on retrying install...I get a message telling me that it is unable to find "rouen.***Huh

I've tried both methods ie zip and Imola Installer and got nowhere??

Suggestions welcome.

Is there a problem with your 67season file, whether the total numEvents= or the numbering of events in order?

As well as the updates on the Alternative Track Database (which aren't compatible with each other), F1Legends have an update for Imola.

I could give this one a go; the track installed fine and works; the installer's a bit of a handful cos it's 3 extractions before you get the actual track installer (who designed it that way?!), but otherwise it plays good for the 1 mile or so I managed up to Tosa with no accelerator and a button for a brake!

EDIT: OK, I love the track; why can't Imola today be more like it? Especially the run from Acque Minerale down to Rivazza: no chicane!

Having no brake pedal takes some getting used to, but the accelerator works fine (at least until THAT breaks). The left hand which ordinarily does the down-shift (I has no separate stick shifter) is now doing the brakes with the down-shift button, and the right hand is doing the up-shift with the normal shifter button and a separate one for down-shifting. It means I can concentrate with my left hand on braking, whilst the right hand does the gear changes. Right foot still does the throttle.

See you Sunday!

As well as the updates on the Alternative Track Database (which aren't compatible with each other), F1Legends have an update for Imola.

Following my recent re-install of GPL I am certainly nowhere near the max number of circuits loaded, as I am simply adding any that I need as they become necessary. So, by just adding another circuit ( Imola ) I would not expect anything to get out of sequence etc.Huh
But, having just returned from a 5 mile hike with my dogs, I am going to have a deeper delve into this.....and Clive, now I WILL to be at Imola whatever it takes!! lol

Aha!!!   Rouen was the key Roll Eyes

I had downloaded a winter Rouen track for a fun rac over the Christmas break and whilst the track was the same all the greenery was white, if that makes sense.
But I forgot to switch back to the standard Rouen file.
It seems that Imola "borrows" some of the original Rouen bits to construct the circuit file and once I corrected Rouen...voila....Imola!!

Now I just have to learn how to drive it? Undecided Roll Eyes bring a pizza Clive ,,,(Large with fries and beer)

I connected to the server fine, did a couple laps practice, best lap in the 1-man race I did was a 1:42.12. I get the feeling that's quite slow, since I had best sectors for a low 1:40. What's the score round here? Button braking is definitely not as effective as a pedal, but it's not THAT much slower, is it?

Celebrating Ballantine's Day today clown, but I hope to be there tomorrow. Haven't driven Imola more than a few crappy  laps in the 67's, but I hope it's easier to cope with in 65's.

just tried the server with Natan...all seems ok except for my driving  Undecided

Looks like a sub 1:40 should definitely be a pissabolity, although not by me unless I get myself and a setup sorted out.

We had a visitor from San Diego, one Gary Tautfast, who was interested in racing with us on Sunday evening if he is free at 2pm. (his time). Might be a new recruit for 65's, but he was doing low 1:41's, so is no slouch in a Cooper.

Just tried the 67 BRM at Monza with my current steering wheel and pedals setup, and it feels so alien compared to what I'm used to, it's almost scary braking for corners! In the 65s at Imola I *should* be OK with, even with a brake button that emulates a pedal so soft it feels like nothing's happening at all.

I'm hoping Mr Loynes can sort my pedal out good and proper so I have a good working setup before UKGPL S17 starts.
