just tried this out, great track layout and configuration A grid full of these feisty little Elans around here will make a great clubmens type close racing event Only did a handful of laps for reconnaisance and early setup look, 1:58.8 so far, with more to come with familiarity. Car doesnt seem to need too much tweaking, i put some more air in front tyres, stiffened the rear springs one notch and put a dash of camber on the front wheels. Front tyre temps are still a little low so may need more adjustment. Note: This seems a much better version of Oulton than we tried out for GTC class a short while back If we used this layout it would make a great GTC modern event too.

Yes, Elans are much more friendly, initial laps around 1.54 with a basic setup ( gearing steering etc), should be good fun with some nice close scraps.

55's are almost there for me. This is indeed a better version than the one with the ski jump down to cascades this one however does have a nasty crappy gradient change into and through the 1st chicane after esso hairpin, and, touch the kerb on the left on the way in, and you fly up and land on yer nose..

Is there anything in the setup that will help us through the first chicane? It feels like you should be able to fly through there but that dip makes it really slow, for me anyways. 2nd chicane offers same problem. Just raising ride height doesn't help. 54 for me but I'm finding the Elan more tricky than I first believed. Nice

why do you guys assume you should be able to fly through the first chicane or the banked section ? Watch this onboard vid and you will see how bumpy it really is and how much steering input needed to fight the wheel. You can also see how slow he has to take the first chicane. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKCD9ykov1o

I don't assume that you can just fly through anything. The shape of the chicanes is pretty well correct from above. I have done lots of laps at this circuit at only a little slower than the elan pace here and you do not go end over end if you take some kerb on the entrance to the 1st chicane! The little drop before the 2nd chicane is not there as I remember, and the drop down to cascades is less violent in real life than this one. Personally I like tracks to be accurate, but I'm not too bothered if they are not as long as they are a good drive. The 1st chicane is not well done, the left kerb is silly, the right hand is fine. If you stay off the kerbs it still seems to have a level change that is unrealistic. the exit of the 1st chicane has wheelspin as the car tries to cope with the vicious level changes In the video he is taking big chunks of kerb, if he did that in this version he would not make it round in one piece.
I have tried more ride height and softer suspension, it may help, but if you hit the left entry kerb, you still fly big styley

tbh this is a quite common fault with tracks in both GTL and GTR2, for some reason some kerbs will launch you in the air where in reality they wouldn't, unfortunately we just have to live with it. Not ideal I know for many who have actually raced irl but unless someone knows how to modify track textures (or whatever they do) we're stuck with what we've got.

Just done another test session of about 15 laps, mainly to learn different lines and some more tweaking, on the limit this car will bite you, just like the GTL version (nice to know!) but setting it up is perversely more straight forward than the GTL version, ie no silly camber angles or diff settings to make it driveable, so imo most of you guys should be able to drive it quickly and have fun with it.
Firstly some setup tips,
1. Go for mid diff settings, 40-50% power, 50-60% coast. (or even higher coast if you don't trail throttle under braking) 2. Reduce front camber to between 1.6 to 2 degrees. 3. Reduce rear camber to between 1.2 to 1.5 degrees. 4. Keep castor in the 3 degree area. 5. Raise rear ride height to reduce the front end aero lift. 6. Keep front ride height at lowest. 7. For a nice safe setup go for soft springs and dampers, conversely for a twitchier setup increase the springs to mid level and increase the dampers likewise. 8. Adjust brake balance to below 60 on the front to prevent locking up on the bumps.
I know you may think that these are quite obvious setup tweaks but as this track is quite bumpy in places I've found they make quite a difference, and as I stated above the PnG version of the Elan is easier to make it driveable.
Obviously this is how I like a car to be , these are just some guidlines I think will help. the only way to get these cars the way you want them is to adjust settings to your style but hopefully the settings I've stated will give a reasonable base setup.
I've managed to get a time in the high 1.51 's so by some tweaks I've done, plus more track time.
Any questions just pm me or post them.
Matt

Thanks for the help Matt - used what I could from them I have managed a low 1.57 (2secs better than before). Really looking forward to getting on the track with you guys again - been a long time Laurie
