A bit more notice this time…
This is our second fun race for some pre-season practice and also to test UKGPL6 prior to the start of the season. It is being run on Sunday rather than Tuesday due to the LBGPL race 24/2. Zeltweg 1970 is an old UKGPL favourite not run for some time due to past server issues. We are hoping the new server set-up will overcome this…

There are a few versions of Zeltweg around. We are using the Ronnie Bresich 1970 version found here; http://dixierunners.speedgeezers.net/zeltweg1970/

If you have problems installing the 65 mod, just post on the thread. If you haven't used the 65 cars before, be aware that though they're far easier to drive, they have no proper default setups of their own- you'll have to download one, or alter the gearing.  There are default setups available if you need one, just use the link below.

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:40 p.m.
(You will need to set up a channel called #ukgpl if you haven't already done so)
IGOR and Race passwords: no race password

Server 6.ukgpl
IP address  tba

Race date = 22-02-2009, 9pm
Track =  Zeltweg 1970
Variant = 65mod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qually time = 30 minutes.
Race length = Int-Long (16 laps)

Download the track from: http://dixierunners.speedgeezers.net/zeltweg1970/

Chassis assignments: any chassis you like

New 65 Patch: This is likely to be released shortly - as this is a fun race if it is available you can use it...

65 Mod

The 1965 season was the last to use the controversial 1500cc formula which had begun after 1960, to the initial advantage of Ferrari.  The 1965 cars are smaller than the 1967 cars and have less torque and hence more grip.  It was claimed that they 'cornered on rails', however this allowed the Grand Prix series to retain the use of circuits which were otherwise to prove extremely dangerous.

The 1965 cars are ideal for those new to GPL as they allow the tracks to be learnt in light reliable cars, however these are also full Formula One cars, and quite fast....  Jim Clark won the 1965 Belgian Grand Prix from in a Lotus.  Graham Hill took pole in his BRM P261 with a time of 3'45.4 .  The 1965 distance was 32 laps.

David Wright's 'Legends' site http://fp.gplegends.plus.com/ has the download of the most recent 2.0.1 version (under 'details') as well as being an exceptional guide to both 1965 and 1967, for those interested in Formula One history.

Unfortunately the current 65 mod download does not have default setups.  Default setups for all the cars and tracks that are likely to be used can be downloaded from http://www.neurology-crew.com/gplserver under '65 setups'.  Note that you will have to add enough fuel for the race, whether short or long!

Whoever is providing the server might want to look at moving the grid back a couple of rows so that the lap coun't doesn't get screwed up the way that it used to.

Que? I know Osterreichring's grid is before the pitlane, but how many problems can it cause?!

Aah, so that's why the lap count is out. D'oh!

Anyone got a good loose grid that's in the right place before I make one?

Clive, how far back does it have to go?

In fact, while you're researching that you could make a loose grid and upload it for the server operators.

Ever the gent.

I'll see if I can reach this one. I see there's a few from the Amateurs' league who will be there. It would be interesting to see how I manage compared to them. Smiley

One funny thing btw: Got a new mobile phone this week, a Sonny Fredricsson C702. It's the first phone I have that I can surf the internet with, so I tested it on UKGPL.com. The screen on the phone is a bit narrow, so the title of the page looked like this:

The UK
Grand Prix
Legends
Champions
hips

So that isn't bad, an internet page about a part of the anatomy of a GPL champion!  thumbup1

O'll have a shufty.  LOL  Last time I over did it and the bloke on pole could only just see the starter.

I think that pole needs to move back to where 3rd would be but will check.

If you don't then I think that if the people from 1st or 2nd on the grid should win the race then the race ends up being a lap short.  Don't know why.

Think this works.  The faulty grid has stalls in front of the front of the grid.

[ starting_grid_0 ]
; 1x1 staggered grid
; polesitter on right
; track length is <5940.00>
; grid front center at <5830.00,  -3.00>
; width between boxes  6.00
stall_0 = 5829.00 -3.00
stall_1 = 5819.00 3.00
stall_2 = 5809.00 -3.00
stall_3 = 5799.00 3.00
stall_4 = 5789.00 -3.00
stall_5 = 5779.00 3.00
stall_6 = 5769.00 -3.00
stall_7 = 5759.00 3.00
stall_8 = 5749.00 -3.00
stall_9 = 5739.00 3.00
stall_10 = 5729.00 -3.00
stall_11 = 5719.00 3.00
stall_12 = 5709.00 -3.00
stall_13 = 5699.00 3.00
stall_14 = 5689.00 -3.00
stall_15 = 5679.00 3.00
stall_16 = 5669.00 -3.00
stall_17 = 5659.00 3.00
stall_18 = 5649.00 -3.00
stall_19 = 5639.00 3.00
