I wouldn't dispute that the noise is from a 275, but the car in the film almost certainly isn't. That full speed drag down to the arc de triomphe isn't much quicker than 70mph when you work it out, but the sounds are dubbed on to make it feel much faster. The whole thing was probably shot using a 2CV!   laugh

B'ah that footage is nicked from the amazing film 'Rendezvous'...look it up gents. Smiley

Its a lot later fezza than the F275 but i cannot remember what one as saw the film ages ago. It was rumoured that an ex F1 driver took the car across Paris in the early hours of the morning at break neck speed and the police wanted the film makers to reveal his identity but they refused and he was never caught ! Its got an ace ending where he pulls up at the Saint sulpice? and some lovely blonde totty comes trotting over to greet him...very cool  Cool

It is a complete con Mark - average speed for the whole sequence is about 40 mph!  Roll Eyes

Sounds good though  Smiley

you sure Paul? are you talking about 'rendezvous' or the clip above?  In the full film i think you can tell hes going quickly by the way people leap out the way !  Ive never heard anyone say that film is a hoax  Huh its famous in the petrol head world.

Finally ran some laps here. Good news for those who struggle with setups is the car is quick straight out of the box.  Smiley I moved the brake bias towards the rear a bit more as they overheat at end of long straight and may need to change tyres for race to yellow spot (meds) but otherwise seems good to go.

Great fun getting the car sideways in the stadium area though probably not the fastest way to do it  Grin

Are we using GP or national layout ?

Absolutely positive. It is the film 'Rendezvous. The impression of speed is exagerated by the low camera angle and the Ferrari sound track, but in reality it is not that fast. Breaking the speed limit probably and enough to scatter a few pigeons, but not the racing speeds implied by the screaming Ferarri engine.

You can work it out by looking at the map - there is a site which shows the route on Google maps:

http://bhendrix.com/wall/Gmaps_GVideo_Mashup_Rendezvous.html
Ignoring the 2nd half, look at the first section, from the point where he leaves the Peripherique and joins the Avenue Foch, all the way down to the Place de la Concorde (where the needle monument is).

This section takes 2 minutes 15 seconds and on the map is roughly 4 km long. That is an average speed of 66mph - hardly what you'd expect from a racing Ferrari on a dead straight road, near the rev limit in top gear for most of that time. The Ferrari would be doing two and a half times that speed if the sounds were to be believed. You can see that is isn't that quick by looking at the vehicles going the other way. He passes a tanker at one point, which seems to slowly slide by rather that flash past.

There are various posts on the net which say much the same, but you need to dig a little. Here's an axample:

Ian said one more vote and it would be the GP circuit, and PRibiero voted, so presumably GP is it is  Smiley

I've not been on here yet but I'm expecting to make this one as I already have Sunday's race setup pretty much sorted & obviously I'll be well practiced on Hock from Thursday night  Smiley.

Looking forward to this actually, to see the same car (from GTL) on the same(ish) track should be good & there was definite promise when I was testing the Elan (as I felt I could complete laps in it) for the last P&G race. Might see some of you on the practice server over the weekend?

Yeah it's not exactly a con, they took the producer's (I think, might have been the director's) big ol Merc saloon out early one morning and drove pretty fast, breaking the limit but not at racing speeds, then dubbed on a 275 GTB soundtrack.  There's a few bits where the gearchanges don't quite seem right for what the car is doing.  But it's still a great bit of filmmaking.

im actually quite gutted (and saddened) that the Rendezvous film turned out to be a bl*ody hoax  Sad A fellow petrol head mate lent me the DVD a few years ago and i must have watched it about 10 times and shown other mates as it seemed a fantastic piece of fast car history with a nice dose of rebellion thrown in (thats me that is !), not to mention pretty darn cool considering the supposed car, the soundtrack and the backdrop of Paris in the early hours.
They could have at least used a sexy car for the duping  Angry

Oh well, one more DVD i dont have to buy anymore  Sad They must have made a mint out of selling that at £15-30 a pop on specialist motorsport sites over the years.

Anyway, back to Hockenheim....anyone tried both sims yet to compare car and track? Might do today at some point, though im pretty sure which one i will prefer   Wink

The popular choice is GP Laurie so we will go with that, first post amended. Anyone got a setup to share? Will post mine shortly after some fine tuning.

I wouldn't worry MJ, Rendezvous is vastly overrated anyways angel Car through Paris, big deal. Re-watch Vanishing Point to cheer yourself up, its so much more than a car film Kiss
