Just for the record:
I had a full freeze (hed to restart PC) on a practice session. We were on with MJ, we were also connected to TS. It was all well until MJ went off the server. Approx. 1 minute later the freeze occured. Could it be when he went off the TS?  Sad

Was that freeze followed by a blue screen and then PC (automatically or manually) restarted?

If so, I've suffered a loooot of these and its rather a PC problem.

No, it was just a freeze, not CTD, had to reset. I have a new machine and it's the same as on the old one.  Sad

Freeze/CTD/BSOD/reboot can all be symptoms of the same thing — data being written to bits of memory it shouldn't be. Usually this is the result of a program using a fixed size area of memory for something and not checking that what it's putting there fits (when done maliciously this is what's known as a "buffer overrun attack").

The results can vary depending on what happens to be in the memory at the location which is being overwritten.

It wouldn't surprise me if the add on cars, tracks and skins can cause this in GTR2 because the various internal buffers may have been sized based on the standard items and may not cope with the extra memory required for 3rd party add ons.

That would be a logical explanation. Do we have contacts with other Leagues using 2006 mod to confirm similar problems?  Sad

I know programs have a 2 gig limit in windows but can we really being pushing GTR2 that much? I didnt think the memory usage is that high when running GTR2. We do use the 3gig switch in the boot.ini file at work for our 3D Cad models because they are so large, would this help? ,maybe setting a fixed size pagefile?

It's not about how much memory you've got, Spanner, it's about how blocks of memory are reserved inside GTR2 itself. If the developers decided that 64k was enough for all the .CAR files and we add some more and now the total size is 66k, that's 2k over the end of the 64k buffer GTR2 has allocated and possibly into something important, like networking data.

It's sloppy programming but I'm afraid there's a lot of that in most games...

Does that mean the deadline for new skins can be pushed back a week Dave?

I'd like to get those in on the existing deadline so that we can get a test race in on the Tuesday. Then there's a longer period between the test race and the first championship race in case anything goes wrong. This is especially important because for the first time we'll be using the same car numbers for different cars, something which I believe isn't a problem but which in popular mythology can be an issue.
