Moderator's Report

Mike collected the first win for the Clark-Hill Lotus team in the Novices! He followed Jim Rye closely for many laps then inherited the lead after Jim's wheel failed him on Lap 16. Jim Hurtubise was a good second while Nicky, who was involved with NHance in the start pile-up, came back to finish third.

However simple victory was not enough for the Clark-Hill ace. He was determined to complete his parade lap this time, and slowed down to concentrate hard and not miss the pit lane entrance. Unfortunately he still went off onto the grass, and then Jim Hurtubise hit him from behind to push him past (thanks Jim!). Finally Bookie clipped him to spin him round, before he finished his own parade lap by again ghosting through the pit wall. So Mike even claimed the worst pit attempt as well, despite some pretty stiff competition from Bookie and Hezemans.

Server replay time: 0h00m47s

L1 Start

Nicky made a poor start and Nhance had a flier- and then risked the wrath of the grid with an outside pass aginst the pit wall. As with Bernie at Spa, there was barely enough room and when NHance glanced the barrier it was enough to bring him into contact with Nicky.

Nicky may have seemed to squeeze NHance slightly, however it's not clear that this was intentional.

While the start was ruined for many drivers NHance took an sng for his reset and I'm not going to add any further penalty. If being deprived of your favourite clubhouse drink by an angry mob doesn't deter racers from impractical start passes then a place penalty won't either. Also, there are no current penalties just for grid behaviour, just aggravation of any other deserved penalties. If a penalty was to be effective it would have to be on the passing attempt rather than the result, because lag is an important factor.

If you are stuck behind a driver who has started poorly in a constricted space, you could pull to one side to avoid the car behind, but remain in the leading car's mirrors. Real racers have more more of the vital information you need to make a successful pass off the grid.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h03m07s

Bookie made an sng that was unecessary, which is just as well, because it wasn't carried out near enough the pitwall.

However he also ghosted through the pitwall, which is an automatic disqualification. An inexplicably harsh penalty perhaps, but it has been levied before.

Bookie doesn't even get the consolation of the worst pit attempt, as there were two further 'crowd-pleasers' on the grid. Hezemans effort was even on the same lap.

Server replay time: 0h12m20s

L7 Barbeque

Clutch was showing a lap down because of his pit start, and had allowed Al past on the straight. As he 'unlaps' himself the side-to-side contact is due to warp.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h14m35s

L9 Esses

Fabio braked early at the Esses and Al shunted him.

Server replay time: 0h21m44s

L14 Crowthorne

Nicky may have expected Al to turn earlier and ran into the back of him when he attempted to lap. Both drivers asked that there be no penalty as a consequence.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h27m47s

L18 Crowthorne

Al may have been unsure of his car at Crowthorne and seemed to brake early. Billy ran into him but no penalty was requested.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h28m17s

L18 Barbeque

Billy was very slow approaching Barbeque and Graham couldn't decide whether to take the inside line to pass him. Billy slowed further to allow Graham past but Graham had opted not to, and ran into the back of him.

Server replay time: 0h30m09s

L19 Barbeque

This was an oddity rather than an incident- Fabio seemed to drive through Billy's car after Barbeque..?

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h34m31s

L23 Barbeque

Graham was unable to avoid Fabio, after Fabio lost control.

Qualified 8th, got smashed out by another Cooper in the start, and (again) I had to wait for the field to pass before I could rejoin. Tiptoed through another havoc on the front straight, and got out of it somewhere behind the middle of the field. passed a few others, and was in a fight with two others for a few laps, until I made a couple of mistakes that took me out of any fight for position, and ended up sixth, more as a result of others' mistakes and disco's than my own efforts. Not very satisfactory. Hope for a better race next time.

Not sure what happened here.

Qualified 3rd i think. Did a few more qually laps to try and improve but no luck. Saw the chequered flag meaning the end of qualifying so pulled over and ESC'd to the pits. Others were still out on Track putting in final laps. Saw on the CHAT the usual 'GLA' messages etc and i'm sure someone put 'End qually' or some such phrase?
I then saw a countdown of around 7 seconds. I heard no car sound or anything then after a while noticed a car drive over the start line. I thought this must have been the last person to put in a qualifying lap. After then seeing another couple of cars pass the start line in crash formation i hit the green button which had just appeared. My car appeared in the Pits. I wondered if there had been some sort of error so set off to ESC back to the Pits, but it suddendly dawned on me that the race must have started!
Looking at Pribuda all cars were in 'red' which i know means they have lapped me. I couldn't quite believe my eyes and felt totally gutted. I'm confused, and even if i'd missed the start, i can't have been one 1 lap late?

3rd place grid slot thrown away, i ploughed on, driving like a man possessed. I just seemed to be passing car after car and wasn't overtaken by anyone. I also noticed that i wasn't lapped by the leaders at any point, and yet i'm showing as a lap down, presumably as i sarted from the pits?

Great win for Mike, he's becoming a championship contender. I like to be up there but if a decent end to the season hinges on this race, the computer and wheel are going out the window!!

On reflection the racing was fantastic. I've rarely got into such a good rhythem and passed as many people, even though i appeared to be unlapping myself passed cars which i'm sure hadn't passed me.

Ah well, its all good fun. On to Imola.. what a set up nightmare.

Happy to scratch home a lonely P6 after the startline melee.

Thought at first I'd got away with a light dent or two, then I got clobbered for a second time and found myself launched into oblivion.

Then the dreaded "track is not clear" message was shown untill the world and his dog had passed.

Spa start was blamed on the close grid formation ! Not so this time ,maybe we should set off at 10 sec intervals ala Isle of Man TT races  Roll Eyes

Yer right, that start was a mess!  I purposely wanted to be at the back of the grid to avoid any melee at T1.  I crossed the s/f line, looked aside for a sec and there were all these cars sideways on the track in front of me.  Bang, got upside down.  Shift+r to get upright and then tiptoe through the car bodies to the pits for my sng.  After that it was just getting rhythm and keeping focused.  don't think about dinner or what about that lawnmower in the shop!  Worked all right.   Field was so closely matched it took awhile for the leader to come up even with the off and stop n go.  Had a good time.  Polite racers.

Bad race for me, much to slow in Q, and at the start Hell broke loose, so I retired this race. Angry

Aah, my first race win. Whoopee!

Qualified 6th with a high 25 and would have needed a PB to get the front row so I settled for it and put on race fuel to find the grip levels on the black ice through Barbeque.

Clutch was having a sandwich while the grid formed and Nicky finished it for him when the flag dropped so I was heading for T1 in 4th with the field self desctructing behind me.

The first couple of laps was a case of getting the heat in the tyres and keeping it neat which I did, then on Lap 3 I showed myself in Pete Maestro's mirrors and scared him off the track, so began a good little chase with Hurtubise and Ryeman. A few laps later Hurtubise in the lead thought of a new way to go through the chicane which won't catch on so Ryeman went around his front and as he hit the gas again I went round the back of him and set after the new leader.

Sadly my fellow Clark-Hill team mate Vos who was showing 5th in Prib had an Internet failure which dumped him out of a good position where he said he would ram raid anyone who tried to catch me.

After being off Ryeman's pace at Albi I could live with him here and was able to close a few times and force him into driving defensively and covering his lines which slowed him further, but just as happened at Albi I didn't get through the traffic as cleanly as the leader so I dropped about 4 seconds off him. It was purely my fault though I just lost my rhythm again but I must thank Bookie especially who backed right off to let me follow the leader through Barbeque.

I set about chasing him down again and set my fastest race lap in the process but sadly before I got within touching distance he ditched it at Jukskie and had a wheel failure which put him out and put me in the lead for the first time in a League race.

I decided not to wait for anybody and kept going but the next few laps seemed to take forever with a couple of chasers now gaining too so I had to pace myself, but I was braking early for Barbeque and Clubhouse which was costing me a little time but giving me confidence as I have ditched it there many a time. The last few laps Hurtubise was putting in some consistent times to close me down but I had it under control and just kept it neat to cross the line in P1.

On to Imola then.

Great turn out again with the number of people in the race

Enjoyable race, especially after my poor race at Albi

Very happy with qually doing a PB and getting 4th

Got off start OK and into first corner, and prib showed everyone behind had all but stopped.

Having had a quick gander at the replay it looked like mayhem

made a couple of silly unforced errors allowed couple to catch me easily and loose places. They were both quicker than me, so would have got me in the end, but would have been nicer to make it a bit harder

Thanks to all for seeing behind and making room to make passes safe

See you all at Imola (whats a good time for 65s here?)

cheers

My first finish - in last place but &  2 laps down but that is an improvement.

Qualifying very busy & was over a second down on my best times. Got caught up in the carnage in the start -simply nowhere to go with cars strewn across the track. Ran down into T1 to with 3 wheels. Found some consistency mid race & an excellent battle with HappyAl. He drafted me on the main straight & although I braked early into Crowthorne I rear ended him. (Apologies have been made & accepted). Lost rhythm after that. Being pretty much the slowest guy on track I was mindful to let the faster cars lap me on the straights. Not around for the next round at Imola - shame as it is a great track. Someone else's turn to be at the back of the grid.

well it was a close run for the pole but i barely got it

i had the lead for about the first three laps, however i got up into the grass slightly and spun the car

due to a great deal of concentration, and a few problems that other drivers had, i was able to seal up 2nd

i hope my streak of spinning out early in races will come to an end---
