Another big congrats to the UKGPL team! We really seem to be gathering consistency which bodes well for future races. As for my race, well I was inconsistent  Grin, made a few too many errors but was reasonably quick and picked up a fortuitous 2nd. After over an hour of trying to dial the Lotus in for Rouen on previous nights, I finally began to get some pace out of the car during quali and landed 5th on the grid. I got held up on the grid by a slow-starting Jethro and lost a place into the first corner.

On the last corner one of the cars ahead clipped the hay bayles, hit a tree and almost piled into me. A lucky escape and was up to 5th again. Later on in the lap, under heavy braking for Scierie, I clipped the banking and did a full 360 just behind Jethro and he just avoided my kamikaze attack. After that, I began a drag race up to Paradis with a Ferrari (not sure who it was) and just won the corner. I then began to catch Jethro again, proceeded to drive up his gearbox, and when he braked early to let me go first into Nouveau Monde, I had to take evasive action! Perhaps my race craft needs a bit of polishing.

After Jethro let me through, I caught John and then drove up his exhaust as well, perhaps a little too closely at times. I was faster through the first sector but John was quicker through the latter half of the course. It took me several laps to get close enough for a tow and pass into Scierie. From then on, I drove my own race to the finish, maybe lapping the odd backmarker here and there. I really wasn't happy with the way I drove the rest of the race. I kept running wide at serveral places on the track and outbraked myself into Scierie a few times, having to take the escape road. It probably would have been best to have downloaded Clive's brakemarker file on the other side of the forum. My lap times were all over the place and I drove into the first corner on one lap, only lifting as if the Lotus was a 65 machine  Undecided. Still, at least I managed to finish 2nd after F1 legends' top man, David, went out with a couple of laps to go; bad luck there.

Well, despite me sounding like a grumpy old man, I did actually enjoy this race. The Lotus' setup was brilliant, with help from H and as a whole, UKGPL performed brilliantly. Well done guys  Smiley. Sadly I'll be unavailable for Silverstone in a fortnight so good luck to you all next time round.

This race just proved you should never give up before the finish. I didn't have much hope to do a flat 55 or even a 54 to take pole from their driver David, but was on course for a mid 55 when I was distracted by someone's chat. Anyway I had a good enough time for 2nd on the grid.

The start wasn't too bad, but I dropped underneath the optimal torque and JR had to lift up a bit to cope with that. David was pushing very fast ahead and nearly went off a couple of times, especially braking for the hairpin. I was trying to keep up with him but also look after the engine, so that was costing me a few tenths each lap.

The gap grew consistently up to 4-5 seconds, though I could hold it steady on some laps by driving a bit better. The setup wasn't optimal though and the car was very nervous, especially on braking, so miniature mistakes were a constant trouble.

Eventually I had an off at T2 and lost 3-4 seconds, but didn't give up and just kept driving as fast as I dared without letting the oil temperature go above certain limits. With another mistake later on, when i braked too late and had to reverse at the hairpin, the gap to David ahead grew up to 15 seconds.

It was mid-distance though and I still thought I'd force him to drive on the limit by pushing myself. As the fuel load was going down the handling kept improving, even though the tyres were absolutely melted, with the rears often reaching 140 C !

I seemed to be faster through traffic and started chipping away a few tenths off David's lead on each lap. I got into a really good rhythm and was now doing qualification laps consistently, which paid off as the gap dropped down to 12-13 secs with just 5 laps to go.

Suddenly I saw the gap come down to 2 seconds and David's car was now in sight! In my excitement I made a little mistake that cost me half a second, but he was still 3 seconds ahead with 3 laps to go, so I thought I'd give it my best shot and just pray for the engine.

It all became irrelevant as David collided with one of his teammates who we were about to lap. That dropped him at about 2 seconds behind and as we entered the penultimate lap, I could notice on Pribluda he was trying very hard! He paid the price for that by going off at the hairpin and retiring. Good driving by him though, he was much faster and deserved to win.

I didn't lift up and went for it on the last lap, despite the alarm bells in my head, but it was good as that gave me the fastest lap of the race(I just love them!).

I was amazed to see us take 1-2-3-4-5 as Pribluda was not showing the correct results while I was driving, in fact it was telling me it's only drivers of the opposition in the top spots! Great result, guys!

Cheers,

Grats to H and the entire UKGPL team. Never a dull moment at Rouen, not even whilst alone. I felt a cold sweat coming on each time I approached the HP....  Shocked

Not really much to report as I just played the consistency card and got lucky. Smiley I did follow the battles on prib and got pretty excited when H took the lead. Fantastic result.

Hope I can make the next one.

Cheers,

w-

Oh yeah, apologies if I disturbed H after qually. I saw his message about folks chatting during qually so when qually was over, I was trying to be funny when I said "H baby, stay cool, we're in a good position....we're bringing you the white visor...."

I saw this earlier in the week posted from H......

Not at all, Will! I had a laugh at that, it's a great quote really, lol.

Got 12th in qually, and had the BRM up to 9th by the end of L1.

Had a spin about L5 at the corner at the end of the back straight which let their Honda driver through.
Evil and Fulvio were now in line behind me and on L11 the engine let go halfway down the back straight. I pulled onto the grass to let Evil by, but realised that if I braked I'd probably spin into both of them. So I just let it run into the tyres at the end, as my race was over, so a smashed nose cone wasn't going to matter !!

Grats to those who finished and well done on the win

Hi guy, I just want to congrat UK team for this race.

That was a bad evening for us, and i was very disapointing to retire 2 laps from the end. After the qualify, i just had to drive properly to win and i did it during 27 laps. Unfortunately, i made a spin and i could go on with 2-3s ahead Hristo. And then i was lapping a team mate, we collided   Undecided (i think it was lag). Hristo passed me and so, i had to drive hard to get him, and i failed... Bad luck !  :'(

See you later for the next race  Smiley

Thanks to our French friends for a great race, I know that you did not have all of your fastest drivers, but you still produced a strong team with some very quick drivers.

After getting to grips with the handling of the Brabham about 1 hour before the race started I was surprised to post a PB and get a mid place on the grid in qually. Only to throw all that good work away at Nouveau Monde on the first lap Undecided.

Habit took over and I gave too much welly and was presented with my ass overtaking me and parking me neatly on the grass verge , where I had to wait for the whole field to pass. Embarrassed So much for a good quali!!

It might have been a lucky move I guess , because it meant I had a clear track and was not caught up in any of the incidents that took out some of the other drivers.
I could see on prib that we were well represented at the front of the field and I set about trying to join my team mates. It was easy for the first few laps, as the Brabham warmed up and I passed several of the backmarkers and one or two other cars that had come to grief for various reasons.

Then I caught Fulvio who allowed me to pass very cleanly. next up was Mike Beattie in his flying BRM. Although I had caught him quite easily I could see nowhere to make a clean pass without risking contact so I showed my nose a couple of times but Mike had his red tinted visor on and was  gunning the BRM for all it was worth.

I hope that it was not my presence that caused him to suffer a seperating of the whizzy bits at the end of the straight Shocked. At first I thought that he had slowed to allow me to pass..an offer which I quicly took. Only to be frightened out of my skin when he shot past me on the outside of the braking zone and disappeared down the escape road at very high velocity. Oops I thought, was I responsible for that? but he did slow didn't he ? and allowed me to get in front?  Now I know that it was engine failure, but at the time I spent a couple of guilty laps worryong about it Undecided.

By now I was up to about 6th and I could see that UKGPL were very well placed, so I pressed on at a steady pace to ensure that I finished.
David V was very unlucky to lose the race 2 laps from the finish which moved me up another place and by the end I was a very chuffed with 4th place.

Grats to all who took part and well done all those who completed the race.

I hope we can race again soon .

Having seen the pics, Ms Phlegm, looks like the sort of Gal you'd want to be following at Nurby, thin enough to pass on the Straight and slow enough to catch in the twisty bits !!

I'll say no more Cheesy
