Well that was some most excellent fun. Chased and passed, then got passed - repeat for the whole race with Phil
He was much quicker in the 1st chicane I was quicker in the last one, though I have only one line through that last
chicane as it's a sort of semi controlled crash each time, which became an uncontrolled crash in the general direction of the kerbs as the fronts became weak.
Really sorry about the shunt Bill, I was trying to go up the inside, but the tyres were already in full slide, and I was
as Martin Brundle would say "a passenger". Was being distracted as well by the rate Goldtop was catching Phil and I
then Phil shot off the track with no front tyre, and I just managed to hold off the charging Tudor on the last lap.
How long was it? I ended the radce with just under half a tank as it claimed 22 laps for a full tank.
ANd I found the 1310 undrivable with a "normal" setup, the default one is drivable but doesn;t make sense.

EDIT: Ahh just read the heading, had not realised it was 65 mins, thought it was going on a bit.  Cheesy

Nice season opener with a good mix on the grid. Special mention for Helle taking the sole Alfa.

My race was ruined by S&G's for cutting and pit lane speeding. Forgot that BA Cabin crew had agreed to do my pit stops for this event. Militant so & so's just stood there as I went back and forth, back and forth trying to get some peanuts and a hot towel.

Besides that I loved the speed of this circuit. Check out Pribeiro's unique line through Church, if you can. I think it involves a triple salco and full pike! (replay 1330)

Nice race to start the new season Smiley I usually jump at the chance to drive a Mini, but thought it a bit high risk around here. Was able to get some pracci in the Alpine and so wasn't too far off the pace, making it an easy choice. I got a little over eager in the first complex on lap 2 and spun it putting me back a few places, but enjoyed the drive back through the field. Was closing fast on Phil and Matt towards the end and nabbed 4th from Phil after a tangle at the last chicane, but couldn't quite make the pody.

Congrats to my teamies Ade and Ian and to Matt for third  Cool

I so want to enjoy Thruxton, what a great high speed blast it is, but the understeer I seem to get turning into those fast corners just murders my laptime (ignore the fastest lap, after all, I did a pitstop and had fresh tyres just after mid distance Tongue).  I end up making the car undriveable in the slow bits just to try and minimise the high speed understeer.  I must drive like a freak!  So I was a bit frustrated by endless understeer by the end.

And what's going on with the fuel usage at this track?  I automatically assumed a pitstop was needed (besides the car got awful to drive after 30 minutes) but from a full tank at the start I did 65 minutes and still had about 15 minutes of fuel left - something's not right there!  Especially when you are foot to the floor for almost the entire lap. Very odd, I normally thought about 60 minutes was the most a car would do.  Just a minor quirk though, no criticism of the track.  Grats to all the finishers, especially Ade and Ian who had fantastic pace and consistency.

Hope to make a few more races from now on, Monday nights are actually good for me, and some semblance of normality and reduced stress may return to my life - my missus has just gone through a stem cell transplant to try and treat her rare (and unresponsive to drugs) form of Crohns disease that has trashed her life, so I might actually be able to race without throwing my dummy out the pram or running out of concentration after 10 minutes.  Smiley

Ridiculous my driving tonight.
I just spun and rolled over more times than in the last 5 years of SIM racing.  Angry
It was just me or the physics of the 1310 Mini aren't good? Ridiculous.
I bet that Tony and Bill were laughing (not on the floor, because they were still driving) near the floor for sure.  Grin
Quit with suspension and steering issues.
Really hope you all had fun.

Cheers

It was good fun, I had a race flip onto the car's roof there - too much kerb is deadly (I've rolled Minis before).  I thought you were training for Lawn Mower racing for a while - looked in mirror no PR only to see you reappear along side me only on the grass.   devil

As I had no one to race I was trying to keep out of everbodies way and not ruin anyones race, thanks phspok, I know what you mean, once you're set up for a corner any deviation can be disastrous.

Thanks for your advice gt.  I found if the tyres were too  hard the car was too skittish so I reduced the pressure by 10 lb/sq in steps until it was driveable.  I finished up a bit too loose for my liking but raceable, I had a few offs but no damage apart from the roof.  Tony, I was going to pit to be safe (checked out in practice, missed it first attempt) but like you, my man wouldn't put up the pit board/return me to garage so decided I'll drive till my tyres gave up.  In the event, they lasted OK, no problems with front LH (never left green, wear about 20) the rear cycled through the spectrum from green to yellow/orange reaching a light red once when I pushed to stay ahead of you when I saw you in the pits and expected one of your chases - bad luck.

Thanks Tony and the "Reader" for an enjoyable night's racing.

Steve, it will be ace to have you with us but jeez you have to get yerself hooked up with either XD or GTLPD (that 2nd one might be wrong letters).

I'm sure Ade can provide links to either. Both do the same thind eg cut out all the guess work about fuel usage tyre wear etc etc. XD shows up on your driving screen whilst I think a 2nd monitor is required for the other one.

Try to get it sorted before the next race cos after you've got it you'll wonder how you ever raced without it.

EDIT: This is where you get XD from. Simple to install and play with but do read the instructions  Wink http://www.vitumo.de/

after sears i thought i won't do a race with more pitstops ever. epic fail devil

  • unknown track
  • FWD car, which i didn't use for months
  • no setup or setup experience
  • joining the server <20min before the race
thats the base for a winner Grin

set the car up like in PnG - epic fail Grin
now it behaved like a RWD with cripple anti roll bars and brake bias. so i got a lot of SnG and few visits from fences.
needed two pitstop until i found the right pit place.

grats all in front of me Grin

edit: uhh, Tony in new team Wink

Hehe, you're so right Tony.  After my most recent PC reinstall I have forgotten to put the XD ini back in, my bad.  Never really used it that much, I'm a fly by the seat of the pants kind of guy, setups and data don't do it for me, but yes, the fuel counter is quite useful......

Having said Mondays are good I realise I can't make the next 2.....boo.
