Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

After the early pace setter James Rye retired, Tim Muttram inherited the lead and romped away from the field to score yet another win and secure the Clubman’s Championship. Congratulations Tim, a very worthy champion. On his debut Al Heller stormed to pole position and picked up second place in the race; a phenomenal achievement, well done. Vlad Vosblod drove a steady race and while all those around him were loosing their heads, Vlad stayed cool and brought his Lotus home in third place to claim his first ever Clubman’s podium!

Server replay time: 0h07m49s

Lap 5 – White’s Corner - Michael Turner and James Rye

Michael goes off at turn 9 and makes a complete mess of his rejoin. Having spun the car on the grass he eventually rejoins and drives straight into the leader who is lapping him effectively ruining James’ race.

Rejoining from the grass in the Lotus is very tricky; it is a very powerful car. Nevertheless Michael should have exercised more care. Drivers should always join carefully and gradually, even to the extent of driving along the grass for some considerable distance before easing back into the track, ideally off the racing line.

  • Michael Turnerpenalty — Appallingly Bad Rejoin — 3 places lost

Server replay time: 0h35m34s

Lap 24 – Turn 9 – Bernie Darwin and Jack O’Ferrall

Bernie makes the classic mistake at turn 8. He miss-times his braking over the jump and consequently runs wide, slithering over the grass until he finally comes to rest on the track at the entry to turn 9. Unfortunately he is facing the wrong way but thankfully he is well off the racing line. At this point he attempts to do a 180 but this places him slap bang on the racing line directly in the path of the hapless Jack O’Ferrall. Catastrophic contact ensues.

Bernie had come to rest in a perfectly safe place at the edge of the track and well off the racing line. Moreover he had a perfect view of the oncoming cars and all he had to do was to look back up the track and wait for a safe opportunity to rejoin. However in what appears to be a moment of panic, Bernie tries to rejoin immediately and turned right into Jack’s path.

Season 17  Clubman's Cup - Round 8 - Mosport

The first of three original papy tracks to round off the season.  Mosport has it all, fast corners, slow corners, undulations and straights.  A good all-round set-up is required here.

Any points score here above 15 would secure the title for Tim.  Will he settle for a points score or go all out for the win?  Do pigs fly?

Remember if you want to take a chassis faster than the one your championship position dictates then you MUST make the appropriate pit stop.

The rules have not changed from last season however all drivers are asked to ensure they are familiar with the rules (both general and division specific) and the penalty guidelines.  Also the Recommended Driver Behaviour page has some great info on how to get the most out of racing on-line with GPL.

Please be in VROC UKGPL chatroom by 8:55 p.m (UK London Time = BST = GMT + 1h).

Race List = VROC
Server = 4.UKGPL
IP address = 84.70.242.152

Track = Mosport
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Race length = Long (27 laps)
Password: see above

Have to work Sunday night, but still, should be home in time to have a bash at Mossie in the Big Thumpers....
Having some practice there in the Eagle on Saturday night with OAO. So should be suitably Mosported-out by the end of Monday morning.... laugh

Still not 100% sure I can make this one, but wouldn't mind a few practice runs before, just in case.  Anything planned?

Indeed I did.  Server is up now (4.UKGPL on VROC) if anyone wants to test their connection.

Just had a quick praccy race on 4.UKGPL.  Al Heller connected OK and good lap times too, WD Al Cheesy.  These 67s take some getting used to after racing the 65s here on Tuesday!  Mind you only 27 laps this time not the 45 lap marathon we did on Tuesday.

I practiced at Mosport briefly last night, but had the same disco problem that I had in the novice race.

Not sure why because GPL had been very stable recently and I competed at Jarama, Lyme Rock and Rouen with no probs. Tried swapping back to OpenGL, but problem persists. Huh

Anyone got any suggestions? You can see quite far into the distance here.....could the draw distance somehow be an issue?? (clutches at straws).

I'm not an expert but had my fair share of disco's/CTD's.
I take it GPL doesn't freeze/CTD offline as well? If it does it's probably a rasterizer issue.
If only online I'd be looking for a connection problem. Am I right in thinking you were connecting via wireless? Definitely wouldn't reccomend that. It's unlikely to be the server itself unless lots of others also get disco'd, if the server 'loses' you it tends to be happy to pick you back up when it 'finds' you again.
Not much help but I'd be looking at your connection stability as a first point of call.

Thanks Vos...

I dont use wireless anymore and this move to a hard connection seemed to have solved my problems.
Offline, the game is fine.

I will try again tonight....maybe if I end all un-neccessary processes it will be OK.

Good idea re ending the myriad of extra programs that like to plonk themselves into your start-up. I do leave my virus software running but, apart from a strange voice coming over the tannoy mid-race telling me the database has been updated, it doesn't seem to interfere.
Worth checking how consistent your speed/connection is - the crashes I've had lately were all due to my ISP blipping my internet connection.

James,

I've set the server off again (4.UKGPL on VROC) hopefully you can connect OK.  I don't think anyone else had problems last night which would indicate that the problem is with your client rather than the server.  Is there any pattern to the discos?  Does it always occur at a specific part of the track (pit entry for example)?  If so it might imply it is graphics related.  My favourite culprit would be something like a virus checker or some auto update program (ipod tools, windows update etc).
