Although I got caught up in the T1 mayhem and later at the hairpin met a Lotus nose to nose, there is no escaping my poor driving !!!

No idea why, but I could not get a clean lap no matter how hard I tried ..then to cap it all when the leaders caught up to lap me, I managed to let  a couple through and then collect the next ones!! and I think it might have been one of HER cars  Shocked/ Sorry if it was you Hristo Sad

So I quit before I screwed up anyone else's race.. Maybe I should have practised a little before this event  Undecided

I am fully expecting my fundoshi to be dipped in surgical spirit and lined with sand, before being tightened with a tourniquet. eek eek

Firstly, well done John - back in the 67's and straight in to a win...

Most enjoyable. Not quite a PB in qually but the gap to the front wasn't gargantuan. The first lap pile-up relegated me to the back but didn't make much difference as I was thereabouts anyway.
The majority of my race was spent keeping Jack O' and behind him Billy in check. Bit hairy when I was lapped - they came in two chunks but managed to keep out of the way.
Towards the end Jack O' was closing the gap so whilst thinking I needed to keep him back I lost it and let him through, must be a moral in that somewhere  Grin

Anyway pleased to see another chocca grid, these fun races have gone down well. Might think about an xmas one on the next break.

Roll on the Graduates...

That was my dose you twod on  Roll Eyes

Hadn't played GPL for ages , joined in on the last minutes , got  a great start , passed through the T1 mayhem then snatched 1st gear into  T2 hence the spin , one of many caused by doing the same trick which I became rather good at before the race was over .

Enjoyed the lotus in spite of all and had 1 or 2 good set to's on the way to the flag .

I should have a s/r pit stop but who cares this was a fun race ?  Cheesy

That was an eventful race and the result was not perfect, but I was happy with all the commotion in all 24 laps. It's probably perverted but that's my idea of a good race, lol.

I managed to do a good lap in Qualifying and narrowly snatch pole from Mike, but knowing how I need to drop the pace in the race to preserve the engine, there was not much hope in keeping him behind. And surely enough, even though I got a good start, he was soon in my slipstream and passed me on the s/f straight, and there was nothing I could do.

Unfortunately for him he disappeared with a d/c, so I was back in first, but not for long. As we approached the hairpin, I kept my eyes on the mirrors for too long, partially trying to figure out if Mike has appeared again and to see where JR is. In doing that I clipped the outside grass in the braking zone and spun off.

By the time I rejoined in 4th or 5th, the leading 3 (JR, Clive and Lorenzo) were already some 7 seconds ahead. Realizing I need to up the revs and risk the engine if I was to catch them, I put my head down and charged on.

Lorenzo was replaced by Clive in 3rd and for a few laps he managed to keep the gap at 6 seconds, which surprised me because my laps felt very good. I could see all 3 of them close to each other in the distance, so at least catching one would mean catching all.

To get an upperhand I extracted all the horsepower of the engine where it counted and the oil temperature went quite high, but there was no other way. It worked and the gap began to come down.

When we were passing some backmarkers I could pick my lines better than the top 3, so that was another advantage in my favor. I was finally able to catch Clive at about mid-distance, and when he had a bad exit off the penultimate turn I got into his slipstream and went through up to 3rd.

It was going to be more difficult with Lorenzo who was trying to pressure JR, but was very fast in the middle sector, so I couldn't get close to him for a draft attack. There were about 10 laps to go though, so I thought there's plenty of time.

All that went out the window though, as we closed up on Evil before the hairpin and he slowed to let us through, but then accelerated into the corner and clipped me just as I was turning in (np, Evil). Didn't even see him in my mirrors, so that caught me by surprise.

Back to 4th place and some 5 seconds back on Clive, I completely forgot about saving the car and just drove Qualifying laps. Clive was still very fast and I couldn't reduce the gap as quick as I'd have wanted to, plus we had a lot of traffic which compromised some of the laps. In the meantime I noticed that Lorenzo and JR have pulled quite a gap ahead and my chances for 1st were all over, but the least I could do is try to get 3rd.

Clive's Lotus had too good of an exit out of the slow corners so I couldn't quite catch up his slipstream. On the final lap all I could do was put pressure on him and hope he goes wide somewhere. He actually did, on the last slow righthander and we drove side by side towards the last kink.

Of course his acceleration pulled him ahead almost immediately, but I kept into his blind spot and forced him to think I was still side by side, so he opened the door into the fast right and I just managed to squeeze through and grab 3rd.  Grin

Grats to John for the very stable and consistent run (and a pb) and to Lorenzo for the Cooper effort. Of course to Clive for the fun battles too.

May UKGPL live for at least another decade!

Had a pretty good qually, with what must be a season best of 1:21.55, I think. When I entered the starting grid, the screen frose, although I could hear the engine roar from both the others and myself. All I could do was get the hell out of there before anyone crashed into me. Sad

Well this race was good and bad for me. Slapped in an early qualifying lap to get 6th on the grid then thought I should practise a bit with heavy fuel to be prepared for the start.

Sadly, all that practice was for naught as I managed to stick a wheel on the grass braking for T1 after the start. 9 times out of 10 I'd have just sailed off backwards over the grass into the wall surrounding the turn. Instead, I ended up broadside across the middle of the track with no way to get off it as cars squeezed pass on both left and right Sad Chaos ensued. After what seemed like an eternity of car-pinball, I managed to get onto the inside grass and rejoin in 13th.

Managed a whole lap without further incident until I encountered cars all over the place in Sunset on lap 2, karma clearly decided I should pay back for my T1 balls-up early. Another trip to the scenery ensued and it took me another 10 seconds or so to rejoin.

The plus to this was that now I could go chasing in my glory-hunting Lotus and pass a few cars with crappy engines on the big straight, which was great fun and made the 24 laps of a track I hate feel far less time-consuming. Unfortunately, my Michael Schumacher delusions were crushed when I came up behind bernie, who also had a Lotus so I couldn't just use my car advantage, damn! After 3 laps following I got a run on him after the final turn onto the straight and I was able to slipstream and make the pass.

The final laps were spent cruising around in isolation in 6th place watching John Roberts slowly closing up on me to lap. Luckily, I kept up enough pace to avoid any unfortunate incidents with the leaders, finishing a whole 1 minute 11 seconds behind the winner.

Great race Smiley Am looking forward to S18 in the graduates cup. My first race there will be Laguna Seca (can't make Watkins Glen) so am worried already as I've never driven that track before!

Considering that Andrew has been AWOL for a couple of years he certainly was not that rusty!!  Welcome back mate Wink Looking forward to seeing you in the Graduates in the coming season.

During my short time interfering with this race, I came across Andrew's flying Lotus on a couple of occasions...sometimes he was moving, sometimes not lol., but at least he got it to the finish, which is something I don't think I could have achieved last night at anything like a reasonable pace. Embarrassed

My Waza was no match for his Lotus on the straights, and he out dragged me on a couple of occasions, although I seemed to be able to hold the gap around the rest of the circuit when I had my head in gear...which was not often enough.

Still not sure why I was so far away from a decent race pace, just lack of practice with the 67 Honda beast after all the fun runs in 65's I guess Undecided
With the new season imminent and the token system to be implemented, I am going to have to get the Honda humming to get "in the mix" and score points........I foresee some intense sessions of Karma Koncentration with HER to focus my energies.

Same old story for me. My internet was awful yet again so was forced to retire only a few laps into the race  :'(. I don't know. Ever since I started racing here on UKGPL, I admit I used wireless but somehow, it worked reasonably well and I usually stayed connected. Lately though, around the last couple races in S17, it went to pot and my latency was all over the place. I bought some ethernet adapters to replace the wireless, but now I've figured they interfere with each other, making my connection even more erratic! I've installed a patch John kindly offered after the race and I'm just praying it'll get to an acceptable level. I can't keep racing if I disconnect for a second or two when racing everyone. I really don't want to miss the start of S18, so i'll be faffing around with the interweb some more. Maybe it's just packet loss, but somehow I need to cure it, and fast.

As for the race, well my adventure was short in length but had enough excitement for an entire race's worth! Got caught up in the first lap pile up and rejoined around the back. After that my latency was just jumping up and down with cars dissapearing left right and centre. God knows how bad it looked on the server replay. On the second lap, Will and Bill had a coming together at Sunset and I got caught up in the action, but it left me parked on the racing line leaving Andy with a nice ambush when he came hurtling round the corner! After that, I quit, not wanting to be a menace with my connection.

Looking forward to S18 but only if I can get my internet working properly once again. It'll certainly be a challenge this season with the tokens but I'm sure it'll be good fun anywho. Sadly though, REEDs leading, and founding member, Dave has decided to retire from UKGPL and I can only wish him well in future.

Yes Dave PM'd me late last night, unfortunately he's decided to retire from UKGPL (both driving and modding).  It is a big blow for us as Dave has been instrumental in the revival of the 65s and the runaway success of the Interleagues.  I want to thank Dave for all his hard work over the last couple of seasons, he has made a real difference to UKGPL and will be sorely missed.
