It’s finally here, the last of our Summer Madness races, and it promises to be a big one.
To celebrate a decade since the first ever official race at Kyalami on 9 May 1999 we are holding a Race Of Champions on the bank holiday weekend. This race is open to anyone but old timers and past champions are especially welcome.
This might be a good chance for all you potential Graduates to warm up those tyres.

Please be in VROC UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 p.m.
(You will need to set up a channel called #ukgpl if you haven't already done so)
Race password: no race password

Server 6.ukgpl - VROC
IP address 80.5.200.198

Race date = 31-08-2009, 9pm
Track =  Kyalami 1967
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qually time = 30 minutes.
Race length = Int-Long (24 laps)

Chassis assignments: any chassis you like

NOTE : Please make sure you have the pitwall in place, the race will not be moderated but transgressors will be disqualified from the results.
If you have installed a GFX update that removes the pitwall here is how to get it back for the race;
1. Rename or remove kyalami.trk and kyalami.3do files from your kyalami folder.
That will give you back a wall you can crash your car into , if you want the old papy Armco GFX back for the wall do this;
2. Rename or remove Armco_s.mip

Of course not, I was only referring to the competition. Smiley There's not even the slightest thought of switching Honda with something else in the perceivable future.  Cool

Unfortunately I'm committed to Greenbelt, however if it was on the Tuesday the possibility is definitely there. Tongue

Those new to 67s might like to take a look at the 85/45 setups of Dave Wilkinson which were posted here twelve months ago:-
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=326053

These are about as stable as a 67 car can get.

Those into re-grooving may also benefit from using the replays to adjust the dirty marks on the floor and most newcomers will benefit from seeing which gear to be in.

People who want something a bit more responsive could try the Andreas Wilke setups here
http://www.sim-replays.de/html/gpl.htm

Edit:  Just tried Kyalami in a Lotus for the first time in years.  I think a Honda has been around dropping oil, everywhere!

Argh, been practising Kyalami for a few days can't get down below 1:21. Usually when I'm slow I know I am. However, I feel on the edge and driving good lines yet still turn in mediocre lap times Sad

Anyone got any tips on where most time can be made up around this horrible track? Wink

If it feels you're on the limit yet you're not getting better lap times, I'd put my bets you're braking too late and deep into corners, thus compromising your exits. And exits are everything at Kyalami (or everywhere for that matter, lol). You gain a lot more time from having slightly higher top speed at the end of straights than by braking later. Even if it feels the other way around. Try focus on getting as early acceleration on exits as possible and hit your apexes. Installing the WR groove might help with that too.

If it's about, have a look at the race replay for the S17 Interleague race at Kyalami. My laps in the Eagle were consistent, mostly mistake-free, but not overly quick, 1:20s/1:21s, although I did banzai my qualifying lap to put me 3rd on the grid with a 1:19.5. The key in the race was the car was very easy to drive, I was subconsiously pushing the pedals and turning the steering wheel, I wasn't constantly thinking where to brake. Until I had the race taken away from me, I was loving the Eagle and Kyalami.

It's always a hate/love relationship for you, Jethro, isn't it.  Cheesy

Anyway, I meant relative late braking, not compared to someone else. You got to stick to your own limits until you can reach them and keep on them consistently, then worry about catching up to someone else. Late braking is late braking, as long as it compromises your lines and exit speed and regardless if it's 20 meters earlier or later than someone else's braking point.

I suppose setup matters too, so if you're using the default or similar...holy crap! Switch to something more reasonable right away!  Shocked I suggest Paul Jackson setups as stable, fast and consistent.
