Would love to do some Open Wheel Racing on SROU enjoyed what little of F3 in Race 07 we did, but what I can remember of RFactor from trying it ages ago, was poor quality...
If the quality now is as good as GTR2 and its open wheel Iam in...is Rfactor available on disc or is it a download..newbie question?? If its a complete headache just to even get going then count me out.
For me rF is as good as GTR2 and in some points better. It is available as both and veyr easy to get started.

I believe rF is available as a download (rF Lite I think) or a disc, then you need the update patches, the mods, tracks etc. Then the cheat code which might or might not unlock the car that you choose to drive. You might then find yourself asking why you've bothered with all this for a game that looks old, has a clunky UI and why the mod you've chosen doesn't feel right. If you haven't had enough by then, you might spend the next 2 or 3 weeks exploring the different FFB mods available and maybe reconfigure your wheel. No Grip has lots of info on this if you're still up for it. You might then decide that the mod you've chosen isn't that great and you want to try something else in which case you can start going through the same process again. When you finally have something usable you might want to race online with your friends (if you have any left by this time) where you can at last savour the delights of the rF lobby; trying to find your league server by hitting that refresh button a dozen or so times and then find that you've timed out gets pretty exciting come quali time. Forgive me if I'm beginning to sound a little negative but I've been through all of this several times and decided that I prefer to spend my available time practicing and racing. If I want a little open wheeler action I simply click on Steam and load F3000 in Race 07/GTR Evo.

Well...I've raced Touring cars and Open-Wheelers in rFactor before and all I did was install the game, install realfeel and install the mod. Sometimes I'd have to reverse the FFB, but other than that I never changed anything that wasn't in the menus.

No need for patches, nor cheat code, game doesn't look old, heck it looks better than GTR2 in some aspects. UI is quick and easy, I just copy paste a FFB plugin and that's it, no tweaks in the FFB at all. And how many times do you join a public server? Not a reflection of how rF is.

Have to say I kind of agree with Goldtop. I spent 75% of my time fiddling with rFactor over the years and not actually playing it. The problem is that it never really feels right and you think more fiddling or another mod is going to sort it out and it doesn't. Anyway, I have got it into a usuable state atm, so I'm happy to try CART Factor out.

I respect your opinion Jeff, but that is a fair reflection of my experience with rF. The cheat code I refer to is the ISI-BABYFACTORY shambles which is needed to release cars without having to earn credits to purchase them - a real PIA unless you know about it. Realfeel simply doesn't work on some mods and varies in strength/feel on others. I wasn't referring to public servers; I've had great difficulty joining raceconnect and R2P servers in the past and only ever with rF. I know some people love rF and I wish that I was one of them, but personally I just find it very frustrating.

Real mixed bag of thoughts here....unless there is one on the RFactor thread already then an idiots guide with simple steps might encourage people like me to give it a whirl, I appreciate there is some of that already in your replies, it all seems a bit hit or miss as to whether setting this up will bring on a migrane ..luck of the draw so to speak

Thats why I was hoping that we were gonna run a series. Just pick a mod, stick with it and see if it offers something. Presently, I try a mod, generally think its good for two weeks and then forget it. I never really discover if they have the depth say GTR2 has and it would be nice to decide once and for all. I am sure the CART mod has been chosen, at least partly, cause its stable Tudor so hopefully it might be worth giving it another go? As for it being complicated, I can work it JPS so its idiot proof

With only 12 votes for anything rFactor related it's not looking terribly worthwhile... Well it got up to 13 votes expressing an interest for anything rFactor related. Does that mean we wont be bothering with rFactor? While running a GTR2 series that picked even two unpopular cars like the Exige & Elise managed to get a minimum of 11 drivers turning up for each race. Surely another Tuesday night GTR2 mini-series using a more popular match up would achieve higher attendance figures?

As I stated, I'm interested in anything at high quality. Err, that excludes Race - judging demo.

I think the idea was that if we got enough from SRou, imho that's 10 that actually turn up and then we can advertise elsewhere and attract another 10-20 from outside. If the series doesn't take off it gets abandoned or moved to a crappy night, e.g. Friday so those that want to can but it doesn't detract from more popular series using the more popular nights.
RACE 07 was deeply unpopular.
PnG Division 1 on one tuesday and Division 2 on the next tuesday could be a possibility if you can get 26x2 for both divisions (will allow us to reduce the server to 26 for PnG) if rFactor is not going anywhere.

If the series doesn't take off it gets abandoned or moved to a crappy night, e.g. Friday so those that want to can but it doesn't detract from more popular series using the more popular nights. In UKGTR2 Season 9, both Sprints series (GT1 & GT2) managed to average about 19 driver grid sizes at every event. That kind of series would be my personal preference, but I guess if you do advertise any series elsewhere, we may get some more new drivers for all sims which would be a good thing. PnG Division 1 on one tuesday and Division 2 on the next tuesday could be a possibility if you can get 26x2 for both divisions (will allow us to reduce the server to 26 for PnG) if rFactor is not going anywhere.
As you mentioned on another thread, P&G may in the future take over some of GTL's Thursday slots. I know that there are some drivers who can't make a Tuesday P&G session, but would certainly be keen to race it on Thursdays. I personally would also probably be keener to keep P&G to just the one Tuesday & maybe alternate it on on the opposite Thursday's with GTL (so one P&G event a week). We could then potentially have a P&G 'Clubmans' league one night & 'Traditional' race line ups the other. But that's just my opinion & we're happy how we are till the end of November at least.

I'm happy to try something out for a short while but would not be happy to loose another UKGTR race night from the schedule ultimately. I came here for GTR2 racing and was not happy about losing a night to PnG as it was. UKGTR still has a pretty good attendance, I can understand that the elise/ exige would put people off but doesnt mean they wont show again for a real sprint series. It was only 4 races so people might be waiting to see what happend after.
To me Race07 seems far more modern than rFactor. Was it just the cars people didnt like or the whole Race07 experience?
