Moderator's Report

A second win from Lorenzo puts him 44 points clear with Kruger and Doni rounding off the top three in this race.
No reported incidents again so a nice and simple moderating job.

Following Lorenzo (Works) and Al H's (Privateers) triumphs in the first race it's on to Laguna Seca 67. Registration will be open all season for any new joiners. Please bear in mind there are a mixture of driver abilities and no second chances with PRO.

Race List = IGOR
Server = ukgpl.4 (see note below)
IP address = 84.64.42.154 (tbc)
Race date = 20-09-2009
Time = 21:00 UK time (20.00 GMT)
Track = Laguna Seca 67
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Race length = 50 minutes (47 laps)

Password: see above

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
Track downloadable from here http://dixierunners.speedgeezers.net/laguna67/
Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 p.m (UK London Time = BST = GMT + 1h).

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday).
We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the new token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

The Championship is split into two sub-divisions, namely Works and Privateers. The current driver split is;

WORKS drivers
Evil Clive
Tim FMG
Andrew Hodgson
Hristo Itchov
James Rye
Michael Turner

NOTE: In the event of more then 19 entrants a second grid will be run for the Privateers on ukgpl.6. (IP 80.5.200.198) Instructions will be provided in the chatroom – please ensure you join the correct server, due to the way we import if you start the race on the wrong server your result will not count. If you can try to make sure you are in the chatroom by 8.50pm this will enable a decision without any delays to the start time.

Laguna Seca Raceway is a paved road racing track used for both car and motorcycle racing, near Monterey, California.
The earliest development of the local area occurred in 1867 with the founding of the nearby Laguna Seca Ranch. The track was built in 1957 on part of the US Army's Fort Ord after the nearby Pebble Beach Road Races were abandoned for being too dangerous. The famous Turn 8 and 8A combination, popularly referred to as the Corkscrew, is considered one of the motorsport world's most challenging turns, due to the drop in elevation as well as its blind crest and apex on the uphill approach.
The track has undergone significant changes over the decades and is now known as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Those white polos are evil, and the less said about braking into the Corkscrew the better...

I was rubbish at the modern version of this track in IndyCar racing (remember that?), driving it in wingless cars and horrors looking to claim you at every turn is even more hair-raising. Shocked

I presume the passing strategy is, "Hope the guy in front of you crashes"?? Wink

Laguna will be a tough one.
The polos, the bridge, the corkscrew & the turn into the straight are all car wreckers. Even the straight has a nasty kink in it so you have to concentrate the whole time.
40 plus laps on Pro - whoever crosses the finish line will have earned their points. Apparently I do this for FUN!

Extra strong mint maybe? Wink

b)  Brakes are for wimps

I did check if I could launch myself off the top off the Corkscrew corner at max speed and magically land below. Sadly no go Sad

c)  Have some sympathy for those in white whales

That's what I'm currently driving. Tongue

d)  there is no "hope" about it  Grin Roll Eyes

That's true, attrition is the name of the game here!

Yes, having had a short outing in the Fun Race last night, it looks like it could be another "early bath" on Sunday !!

I love Laguna, for all the reasons mentioned, it's such a challenge. I'm still not sure of attendance on Sunday though, due to a long distance "dad's taxi" job!!

If things go as planned this will be my first of the season.  Hope I can make it last longer than the first lap! Smiley

Funky little track. I'm well familiar with the modern one (via Gran Turismo) but the old '67 version is sweet. Reminds me very much of Zandvoort but with bigger gradients. Lovely.

Anyone else notice the upside-down car behind the infield fence on the straight leading to the last corner?

Bloody typical. Disconnected  censored. Qualified well enough but everyone was warping about a bit, so I guess my internet was playing games again, but it seemed to smooth out slightly for a short while until everyone dissapeared. Apologies to those that may have been affected by my car. The new ISP can not come soon enough!

Sad
Sad Sad
Sad Sad Sad

Got a reasonable enough start, survived the first 6 laps. Then got a bit wobbly into the turn at the bottom of the hill, hit the barrier and lost a wheel.

Game over. Not much fun to be honest as I felt I had a decent enough setup to at least finish Sad

Oh well, good luck to whoever wins. Early shower for me.

Fulvio, apologies for tagging you, I wasn't even going for the pass, but you really seemed to be very slow round that turn. Sorry if it ended your race.

Got 1 stunner lap in qually, which saw me 4th on the grid. Ran third after Fulvio went out, but spun on T3 and made a pigs ear of rejoining and lost 3 places. Got by JR and then Jethro, but popped the engine.

Had a comfortable pace, hmmm the 67s just pee me off at times

qualified 9th with 1m08.880s, start was perfect, no pileup unlike expected.

i just wasn't comfy enough with the track or focussed enough, didn't practice enough i guess. i went off every so often, then 3 laps before the end my camshaft broke when i was about to have a look at jethro's brm in 5th spot :).
