Moderator's Report

Drivers who overspent their seasons Token Allocation

Server replay time: 585s

Tim Robey is recovering from a separate incident when he is challenged by two cars as a result of his loss of speed. One driver passes then the other driver, [VDA] King, lines up for a pass on Tim taking the inside line in a braking zone. Once in the braking zone, Tim, who is on the outside line, moves toward the inside line a little just as King gets close to Tim. This happens before either car is in position to start turning in for the corner. This catches King off guard. King has to take avoiding action and is unable to take the corner and leave enough room for Tim. They have side by side contact on the corner and Tim is knocked off track and looses a great deal of time.

Tim’s move toward the inside line from the outside in the braking zone does seem very aggressive. Tim’s car moves from the inside line to the outside line by a distance that is about equal to the width of his car. Tim’s side ways movement is the cause of this incident. Tim did loose out very badly in the race from this incident and it was not reported by the victim. As a result of this Tim Robey will have no penalty.

King was not at fault here. He did about all that he could to prevent a more serious incident than the one that occurred. Hence no penalty will be issued to King.

  • Tim Robeyadvice — No drastic sideways movements in braking zones
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Special Starting Procedure for this race

Due to the chicane (at about T3) being "quite tricky" for the tanks particularly, we have decided that we need to enforce a rolling start for this event.

Therefore:
The driver in Pole Position will lead off the rest of the grid at no faster then 80kph (50mph) till he is past the chicane. All other cars shall follow in single file with zero overtaking. Once you get past the chicane you can proceed to race as normal.

If you have any questions on this, please ask before you get to the event Smiley

Start: STANDING Special Starting Procedure (See Above)

Minimum Pit-stops: None required.

Server: [PnG2.1] UKPnG S1
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here, 2.1 patch from here and enable terrain patch.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
(5) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(6) Remember that P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function, but our gentleman's agreement is that everyone will stick to a speed limit for the pit-lane of 40mph/60kph.

EXTRA INFO:(Repeated) I'm sure you've noticed I've made a bit of a tweak to the system. I've done this because I want to encourage people to take the chance to drive the different levels of fantastic cars that PnG has to offer.

I could be wrong, but it seemed like we were all almost afraid to splash out on anything more lavish then an Elan (13 tokens)!!! For some of the faster guys it's very hard to splash out as they obviously have smaller budgets, while maybe some of the guys with bigger budgets didn't want to splash out & find themselves up front on their own Undecided. So I have worked out some affordable 'token ranges' for each of the final four races of this test/fun season:

Race 4) Edmonton     = 7 to 16 Token cars
Race 5) Watkins Glen = 12 to 20 Token cars
Race 6) Mid-America = 0 to 9 Token cars
Race 7) Riverside       = 3 to 12 Token cars

Some drivers may immediately be concerned that they "can't afford a car for the Watkins tokens range"... don't worry, you can yes.
To go with the 'token ranges', I have also worked out a "Suggested Token Spend" for each person, for each race. You don't have to stick to your "Suggested Token Spend", but if you're close to it, you should be about on pace with most other people (= improved close racing) & finish the season on budget Wink.

Cheers
Legzy

p.s. Please remember that you get nothing for finishing the season with tokens to spare, but you will suffer badly if you spend more then your budget  gun_bandana Wink

Hi, Legzy!  Smiley

As you...and WT...are aware, I've entered the year-end Xmas Festival LeMans affair in PnG.  I've yet to run with the UK group owing to the time difference to me here in Canada.

Is the UK PnG server available at times other than the posted races such that I can get in and confirm that I'm properly config'd?  As in Terrain Patch, ISDN, etc...  I think it essential that I do this prior to the Xmas go.

TY.

Hi Doni, yes it's always up as long as there is no other GTL/GTR2 race on.
To connect at the moment, you would obviously also need the current track (Edmonton) which you can download from the 1st post on this thread  Smiley

3 to 12 tokens at the riverside?...bah, that would mean no IROCs and thats where they used to race in the IROC series !  Tongue

I will be away for the Mid-America event so i might just squeeze enough tokens out for IROC at Riverside.

Hmm, Watkins...IROC or RSR could be lots of fun, but then all those cars in the top half of list are pretty damn cool at a track like this. Cool

ps has anyone tried skinning any P&G cars yet? Would love an IROC done in the colour scheme of my own 911 if a paint wallah has some spare time?  Smiley The white one would be almost perfect, just needs the side graphics made red and the Fuchs alloys red too  Cool

Tokens Remaining, your Tokens Forecast & your Suggested Token Spend have all now been updated ready for Watkins Glen.

While Purdie, Dave & Sam all continue to be the leading shopaholics (they will pay the price in the end) Wink
Ade, Jose, Tony & Andy all continue being the biggest Token hoarders... anticipate them spending more then their suggested tokens in the races to come Shocked

hmm, thats not the Watkins Glen i was expecting  Huh Did we used to use a GP layout when we raced here in GTL ? There used to be a couple of good chicane/corner complexes that made the lap interesting/challenging.

It' s the '79 Layout Mark... It's a little bit different from the modern Watkins... but it's not so bad Smiley, only a bit more dangerous because of the proximity to the guard rail Smiley

I am a tad bit confussed regarding the messages about the track we should be using.

The introduction post clearly states Watkins Glen (Long) which I have and is a great circuit.  But when I downloaded the circuit it is Watkins Glen 1979, which has the stupid chicane at turn 2 in it.  This ruins what in most versions including the original GPL version was a great corner demanding ones best to get it right.

The 'LONG' version has a chicane but its toward the end of the straight following Turn2.

I have just been on-line and there it was the 79 version that was running.

So is it the 'long' or the '79' version we will be using on the 20th.

There's only one track in the download so there's not much scope for confusion. Tongue Well, unless you count the fact that it's yet another track with a "cute" route out of the paddock which you can't find without a native guide. Roll Eyes

It's going to take me a bit of time to get used to that chicane on the way into the Esses though! Shocked I foresee the odd accident there... laugh

just tried out the 906/8 and the GT40 Mk1 around here, both feel superb Cool but two very different drives. I think you may want to drop the 906/8 off the list as its going to kill any other cars around here. I was 6 seconds a lap faster in it over the GT. Shocked Admittedly i havent got a lot of laptime in the GT but try them both out and see for yourself. The 8 is just too good.

What a sound that 906/8 makes  Cool makes you want to race a series using them only at some fast tracks (idea for the future?), its like a GP car from the 60's/70's.

Two areas of concern on the track that people may want to be very wary of. 1) the first chicane at the hilltop left...if you hit the right hand kerb it will flip you over at worst or chuck you hard into the armco at the lightest ! So stay as central between kerbs as possible or use a bit of the left side kerb but even that un-settles the car badly if you try taking it with too much speed. Dampers may solve that.
2) the very last righthander before the s/f straight:- the racing line entices you into the right side of track that is seriously off camber. If you use it, the track tends to throw you right into the pitlane entrance/armco. After several buggered laps on the last corner, i started to stay wide left of it and power up the s/f straight instead.

Still learning this track as dont remember any of this layout and every corner has its own varying lines to get right and its a long lap, over 2minutes.

I wonder if its worth people starting to state what car they intend/likely to take in good enough time before race night? That way we can hopefully get good groups of like-specced cars to race against. I'm still trying out a variety at present whilst also learning the lap.

By coincidence I've had an hour or so here this afternoon on what is also a new track for me. I took the Gulf out first and the 906/8 last with a few others in between and found the Gulf to be at least 4 secs a lap quicker than the porka. Haven't tried the MK1 Gulf which I know is much more of a handful, but then again I don't need to with my token budget Wink
