Moderator's Report

A great race that saw some great close racing between large groups of drivers.

A superb performance by Ryeman saw him claw his way back from the lower echelons to go on and win, but will he retain his win?

Clive and John both made the mistake of using magnets as ballast and discovered that opposites attract.

Even last place wasn't decided until the last lap but Mike skilfully held on to it and won another wooden spoon.

Server replay time: 0h06m53s

Natan loses control and gets hit by Ryeman which pushes him off the track.

I think Ryeman sees Natan having difficulty and anticipates him sliding off the track. Natan rescues his slide but is heading towards the inside line when he does and I think still out of control when he gets hit.

I think Jim should have reacted more quickly to avoid Natan and it is his responsibility to avoid a collision.

I've called it a rear end shunt as I don't think it was an intended overtake and Ryemans speed at this point compared to previous laps would also suggest he wasn't attempting a pass.

qualifying was close, but I did not have the raw pace for pole.

As I hadn't raced for ages I adopted a slow and steady approach. This wasn't supposed to include the start, where I got badly bogged down and dropped from 4th to 9th! By the end of the lap I was in p7 however and lapping slightly faster than those around me.

I had some excellent battles, especially with Evil Clive  Grin who was much faster than me but was clearly on the limit. Clive was able to take way more speed into the corners than me and was so sideways sometimes! Anyway, through attrition really I found myself in the lead and it was quite tense for the last few laps as Full Metal Gasket (Tim Muttram?) was over a second a lap quicker than me. Had the race been 1 lap longer then I surely would not have won.

Miner249 asks if I backed out of a move due to seeing an incident ahead.....yes I did is the answer. I really did not want controversy in this one. I only tried to pass people where I was sure that I could make it cleanly because I was on the receiving end of some stewards decisions in the novices for overly-optimistic moves.

Wasn't completely sure that the race had ended and on my warm down lap, someone spun at the hairpin and I couldn't avoid them....sorry about that.

After pipping Hristo for pole...nothing else really matters Grin....but as you asked, the Wazas did take the front 3 positions as she had instructed. Wink

Starting from pole ( which is actually quite rare for me ) at Kyalami is always a stressful position with the thunder of hoofs approaching J1 and watching for the dive up the inside or the one that gets the braking all wrong and sails straight through like a bowling ball. So, I was relieved to negotiate J1 unscathed and the pack had sorted itself into T2 ( or is that now J2?) so that was a little easier. I caught a glimpse of ariel action in my mirrors and when I had the opportunity to glance at prib I realised that Hristo and Tim had apparently committed Hari kari!!! Shocked So i thought I was the lone Waza after only 1/4 of a lap. Undecided

John soon closed in and announced his presence by giving me a kick up the a** into T1. His Brab? was very obviously handling better on full fuel than my Honda especially on the brakes!!
I could see JW lurking behind him waiting for his chance to pounce, but was confident that as my fuel load came down I could match most of the opposition.
A lap or so later John got a better exit onto the straight and made his pass...almost...until warp appears to have intervened and the computer gods decreed that we had made contact and sent both cars into orbit!! Miraculously the Waza survived intact again and I recovered down in 9th place with the disconcerting sight of a Dino Ferrari driven by Phil in my mirrors?? ( must remember to change that for the next 65 race Roll Eyes )

The climb back up through the field was fun and both Clutch and James proved just quick enough to make a clean pass difficult until they made mistakes. The leading group all  made mistakes and after much switching of positions eventually I was up to 2nd and chasing James who had slipped into a comfortable lead. I was closing the gap each lap and was confident of catching James long before the end of the race.. then I decided for some reason not to bother braking for J1!!! Undecided I plead old age and failing faculties.  This dropped me back to about 6th after I was careful on my rejoin and allowed a few cars through. The next few laps simply compounded my brain failure moment and I made a few more mistakes before regaining my composure and starting the chase all over again.

I made it up to 3rd with Tim and James a speck in the distance and not enough laps to get on terms, so I settled for bringing home a 3rd podium slot for HER.

All in all a great race and although it seemed very long it did allow the opportunity for recovering from mistakes and getting back up to the front. I guess the real secret would be not to make mistakes,  that might be good in theory but............

"I plead old age and failing faculties"

I wonder how old people who play GPL are because it is an old game now and I guess it doesn't get many new recruits. For the record, I turned 30 on the 28th!  Sad

There are no old people in GPL James... just those that have been born earlier or later.

ALL GPLers are in their prime, you should know that by now Wink

Then you're by far the older, James! All the rest of us are in their 10s or 20s!  Grin

very sorry about that Clive i wasn't even thinking of overtaking at that point , guess that while catching you up that i'd been braking later into turn one and it caught me out when you went sideways , i did wait for you to recover but then i had a pesky brab  behind me .

A lap or so later John got a better exit onto the straight and made his pass...almost...until warp appears to have intervened and the computer gods decreed that we had made contact and sent both cars into orbit!!

up like a rocket ... down like a stick for me !

pity about the warp as it was shaping up to be a great battle Clive .

Can somebody just clarify the PP situation? Does it actually make a difference to the championship points stakes or not? I have 4 in a nice yellow box that won't go away this season.

A bit like points on a driving licence only  you can earn double or triple points for certain on or off track activities of artistic merit.

for really bumper scores you need to organise something like a whipping orgy preferably having a neo nazi theme  Grin

Your licence endorsements are listed in your racing history between lap records and full event entry list.  The dates the yellow cards expire are listed there.  Don't ask me to explain the detail you can read it here, we (UKGPL) piggy back on the SRou (UKGTR) system.  So whatever they do with yellow cards we do too.

If you want to know how the yellow cards affect your championship points read this.
