Yep, 5 years ago today, GTR was released in Germany - I guess there are still quite a few people here who bought those early German copies from Amazon.de and similar. So happy 5th birthday GTR!

I remember trying that game (having only done some NFS with a wheel in the past) and gave up trying after a couple of laps laugh

Then a year later or so bought GT Legends for a cheap price and learned simracing.

Nonetheless it was a short live up with GTR, GT Legends and GTR2, cause Race 07 introduced the downfall and I'm always hoping some next big fun comes, but I'll guess that'll never happen... (and GTR2 is still lovely!)

The worldwide release was in 2005, but many of us bought a German copy in 2004.

I remember the day well. Young, fresh faced and receding just a little I skipped down to the Post Office for my suspicious German package. Best 30 notes I've ever spent and it still keeps giving (I vaguely remember moaning that it wasn't as good as GTR1 though).

To be honest, I thought you were talking about GTR 1 and I was gonna suggest a race in that to celebrate Smiley

Might be cool going back to GTR1 for a race. It was so rewarding that game!

GTR 1 was a real challenge, but the physics were wrong when on the power - way too easy to spin the car with absolutely no warning.

Happy birthday indeed Smiley

I still have my original German GTR 1 disc, and the e-mail from amazon.de when they dispatched it.
