Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Another win for Al Heller which extends his lead in the championship. Van Tussman pushed Al very hard and was only 4 seconds adrift at the end of the race. An impressive debut from D Rock saw him secure the final podium place and the fastest lap of the race into the bargain.

Server replay time: 0h00m39s

Lap 1 – Le Belvedere – Vlad Vosblod and Graham Poole

Nhance and Norbert are a little tentative on the approach to Le Belvedere. Their lack of pace catches out Vosblod but he manages to slow in time. Unfortunately Graham doesn’t and he rear-ends Vos.

There is always a possibility that drivers will slow for particular sections on lap one and this was no exception. Graham should have anticipated that cars might be backed up before a slow section or that drivers could be extra careful, as was the case here. Vos is entitled to a no-fault shift-R.

Server replay time: 0h03m15s

Lap 1 – Virage de la Ferme - Al Heller and Van Tussman

Van Tussman gets into a slide on one of the right handers in the Virage de la Ferme section. He recovers control in time to get back on the racing line ready for the next left hander. This slip up has cost him some time and allows Al to catch up. Al goes for the inside line but the door has been closed and he makes minor contact with Van Tussman’s gearbox. Warp exacerbates the impact and Van Tussman is sent into a spin.

Al tried to go for the pass but the opportunity wasn’t there. There was clear contact on the server so the incident cannot be put down to warp alone. Warp undoubtedly made the impact worse but Al had no overlap in the baking zone whatsoever so the responsibility for the incident must lie with him.

Advice: Having made a mistake Van Tussman should have anticipated an attack up the inside and he could have stayed wide to minimize the risk of contact. Although he is not to blame for the contact in the interests of self-preservation he could have stayed wide. He would still have had the inside line for the next right-hander and so more than likely he would have retained the lead.

Server replay time: 0h03m15s

Lap 11 – Charade - Flaming Rogster

Rogster makes a mistake and crashes into the trees loosing a wheel. He needs a shift-R but it is his last lap and he crosses the line without making a S&G.

There is plenty of pit lane before the finish line so Rogster could have stopped before the line, completed his stop and go and then finished the race. The appropriate time penalty has been awarded but it makes no difference to the result in this case.

Server replay time: 0h08m37s

Lap 2 – Carrefour de Champaux Section - Alastair Baldwin

Alastair has one of his many crashes and this time needs to do a shift-R. No other car was involved, he just got stuck on the hillside. He fails to do a Stop & Go within two laps.

Server replay time: 0h08m47s

Lap 3 – Start and Finish Straight – Graham Poole

Graham fails to do a stop and go within two laps after the incident with Vos on lap 1.

Humble apologies to Vos for the punt on the first lap, the crash engine went into hyperdrive.
No worries - this wasn't my track anyway.

Relatively uneventful debut for me, I dropped to 5th at the start then gained a couple spots from spins. Lap 2, I believe, saw a VERY close miss when Nicky spun in front of me through one of the fast right handers on the back side of the circuit. A couple laps later I spun in the twisty bits after the hairpin, letting Tussman by in the process. Pretty much nothing happened after that, other than the fastest lap on lap 10 and a spin on lap 11, in the same spot as the first one.

A podium was definitely nice, seeing as going into the event I was worried I'd be slow and in the way. The fastest lap came as a surprise too, since I thought I was driving pretty conservatively. Overall it was some very good racing, much more challenging than racing a bunch of 12 year olds on Xbox Live  Grin

I must be blind, where do you find the replay?

When I go to the replays and click on 2009.11.17 Novs_Cler there is nothing.

It was an unusual night for me.  I was doing all right for a while and then decided to take a "shortcut"  across the switchback at the beginning of sector 2!  After rolling over, the car seemed all right so I motored on.  It was slower though and something must have been damaged.  Trying to return to my earlier pace, errors began to accumulate and ended when I blew the engine.  I know it's a shift r league, but I felt I had used up my quota for the night and decided to call it just that, A night! :'(

Thanks Nicky, working on ukgpl6 so hopeful it will be ok. I had wireless switched on even though not used - maybe that will help.

Re grid - we usually use the Paul Jackson 1*1 staggered. For Zandvoort I have;

[ starting_grid_0 ]
  ; SpeedCenter tested format 1x1 staggered grid for better online starts
  ; polesitter on right
  ; track length is <4189.39>
  ; grid front center at <4178.70,  0.00>
  ; width between boxes  3.10
stall_0 = 4177.50 -3.75
stall_1 = 4162.00  1.55
stall_2 = 4147.66 -3.75
stall_3 = 4132.16  1.55
stall_4 = 4117.82 -3.75
stall_5 = 4102.32  1.55
stall_6 = 4087.98 -3.75
stall_7 = 4072.48  1.55
stall_8 = 4057.14 -3.75
stall_9 = 4042.64  1.55
stall_10 = 4027.30 -3.0
stall_11 = 4012.80  1.55
stall_12 = 3997.46 -2.9
stall_13 = 3982.96  1.55
stall_14 = 3967.62 -2.7
stall_15 = 3952.12  1.55
stall_16 = 3937.78 -2.7
stall_17 = 3922.28  1.55
stall_18 = 3907.94 -2.7
stall_19 = 3892.44  1.55

If you have the multi-season update don't forget to change track65.ini as well as track.ini

My CF grid was wrong too and I had applied a Paul Jackson one.

Zandvoort has been used before so mine should be OK.
