SUMMARY
A maiden win for Van Tussman made all the more sweet by claiming pole position and the fastest lap into the bargain. Nicky maintained his strong challenge for the title with a superb second place. Fabio secured his first podium finish of the season, well done.

Server replay time: 0h00m51s

Lap 1 – Start Line – Graham Poole and Bookie Westbrook

Graham was so far back he needed a telescope to see the flagman. Nevertheless he wasn’t last on the grid, that honour fell to Bookie. Graham drifts left off the start line and makes contact with Bookie who had made a much better start (presumably he was telepathic and knew in advance when the flag would drop).

Graham didn’t seem to realize that Bookie was alongside at the start. Unless you are absolutely certain that you are the last car on the grid, maintain a straight path until you are absolutely sure there are no cars along side. This is a first lap incident so attracts an extra place penalty.

Server replay time: 0h00m55s

Lap 1 – Tarzanbocht – Vlad Vosblod, Al Heller and Fabio Locarno.

Both Al and Fabio get better starts than Vlad and overhaul him on the run down to Tarzanbocht. Al gets clean through on Vlad’s right and Fabio gets along side on the left and is almost exactly a full car length ahead as they reach the braking zone. Vlad drifts left and makes contact with Fabio’s offside rear wheel, slewing him around and into Al. At this point complete carnage ensues involving most of the field.

Although surrounded on both sides, Vlad should have steered a straight course. He didn’t make any significant steering input, but he allowed his car to drift left as if heading for the racing line. Having made a slow start, Vlad should have expected to have cars all around him so he should have concentrated on maintaining a straight predictable course. This is a first lap incident so attracts an extra place penalty.

Al Heller, Phil Flatspot and Alastair Baldwin are entitled to a no-fault shift R.

Server replay time: 0h02m56s

Lap 2 - Tarzanbocht – Billy Nobrakes and Phil Flatspot

Billy looses control and spins off the track finishing stationary on the banking but facing back towards the track with what would be a clear view of the braking zone had he used the “Look Right” cockpit view (keyboard “X” by default but remapping the “Look Left” and “Look Right” functions to easily accessible buttons, like the red buttons on a Logitech G25 wheel, makes the views much easier to use). He doesn’t see Phil approaching and rejoins directly onto the racing line causing a pile-up.

Phil Flatspot is entitled to a no-fault shift R.

  • Billy Nobrakespenalty — Appallingly Bad Rejoin — 3 places lost

A big smile cos i could join without problems and some great racing with the red things of Fulvio, Norbert also N hance and Roguk although i tried my best to upset there party.

We traded places a few times though I didnt really have enough steam to get close enough to worry either of them and it was mostly the changing fortunes of racing which led to any passing or being passed

Was actually in P4 at one time but then threw the place away by overambitious driving in my attempts to get to P3 ( I could smell the podium but as we know, smelling and tasting are not quite the same thing )

My car was good and fast in the twisties but on the long straight it was pathetic and coudnt get near enough to anyone to get alongside into Tarzan and make a place , apart from just one brown trouser moment when norbert dived inside of N hance and i followed him through , looking at my replay it seems Nhance slowed to give room to norbert and I was close to him but slid wide across the infield , think there may have been some warp contact as nHance suddenly jumps left and spins out though my replay shows no physical contact was made between the cars .

Lap 20 and in my effort to get back with the lead pack (after another off) I go past p meastro into tarzan and get into one fantastic power slide around the hairpin , just wish I could repeat the manouvre at will cos im sure my section time was world record status .

Grats to Tussman, Nicky , and Norm for his solid drive into 3rd whose driving has improved no end since signing on with UKGPL

Looking forward to Aussie and the sunshine of Adalaide  Smiley

So, Finlay I got the win I was longing for.

It was really a very "easy" race for me. I just got Poole, took the start, took it easy and slow for a couple of laps, then left everybody behind, set fastest lap of the race and won the race. (I intend to do the same at Adelaide hihi). The only worry was lapping people but I must say a big thanks to the one I lapped for keeping out of the way, really well done.

Before the race I was a bit sad that Al had been put in the BT7 but a saw that the Amateurs race was won in the BT7 so ..................

I was wondering about the warping Nicky was talking about when he was following me at the beginning of the race, "when I was taking it slow". Al was talking about the same thing at Clermont. When I was looking at the replay in Nickys car I could not see any warping. So I wonder if the problem is in my connection, Nickys connection, the server or what it is and what can be done about it.

I am looking into the possibility of getting a better internet connection, but would really want to know if the problem lies with me. I am not so good with computers so help me out please, I mean I don't want to win races because no one can come close to me, not that I felt this was the case this time.

Well thanks for racing and well done all, see you at Adelaide.

Smiley as I said , I never was fast enough to serve you any sort of hard time at Zandvoort.
Wink if you could manage to be around sometimes at Igor (ukgpl chat ) ,then we can do some tests to see if its your internet connection or not.
would be helpful too : knowing your type of Internet connection and speed , as well how you set up your core.ini , and if got a router , how that is set up .
-- , firewall and Antivirus software too could be point of interest .

...so perhaps if it's that quick you might like to take the BT7 too?

Well, I've enjoyed more than my fair share of good luck in races this season so was overdue a calamity or two. Made a good start but got launched into orbit after two cars accidentally tangled behind. Didn't suffer any damage but unfortunately found myself imprisoned behind a wire fence so had to take a shift-R to get back onto track - not my fault so I didn't take a SnG but by the time I got going again I was way behind. Tried to catch up but the BT7 is still pretty unfamiliar to me so made a few silly mistakes that lost me even more time. Plus of course I was a sitting duck on the long straight. Nevertheless had some fun battles on the way back to 8th - especially those last few laps with Pete who beat me across the line by a whisker!

Congratulations to Tussman, Nicky & Fabio.

It was won by Hristo, not his BT7 Wink

This car is the only thing that keeps him on our planet. If he got a fasther car, he would be home long time ago alien

Hi tussman ,

To me your core.ini settings do look ok .
1Mbits/sec is extreme slow. Are you really sure on it ?
( I do got 12Mbits/sec out off a contract promises 16Mbits/sec ). And 6M/bits/sec is the slowest you can order here those days .

Hope its not WLAN you have. If so kick it out through the window. Its devil`s work for gamers.

Hope too , no other users ( homenetwork ) are on while you race online.

But anyroads : you can check if maybe firewall and/or Antivirus software are an bottleneck , simply by turning them off and join a race via Igor.
Shouldn’t be that risky to do . In fact during our ukgpl online races I shot down my Antivirus software all the time .
As I am behind a router including firewall , I havnt any clue on how to set up zonealarm  .
But back the days I used zonealarm as well , I turned it off either for online races.

Well , maybe the program `and it all `helps a bit too. https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=7084.0
Bernie should be able to help you in that .
And off course make sure really all update services are disabled !!!

Thanks for the answer Nicky,

I am not sure about what WLAN is but it might be. Is there some other possibility when the connection is mobil? The operator is called Icenet.

I am sure about the speed but there are no other user (homenetwork), I live alone with two cats and they don't care much about computers, (wonder what they are doing all day).

The option I am looking into is a fiber cable connection but it involves digging so I guess I have to wait until summer. Yes it is winter here with snow and frosen ground.

So, with the core.ini OK, (I am glad it is) the disconnection of the firewall and antivirus is about all I can do at the moment and I will try that the next round at Adelaide, so if you see the back of me there ..... hihi.

The time at Igor/ukgpl chat is early for me, usually get home from work round midnight but Tuesday I am free so, but of cause I have GplRacer race at 8.30, my time, maybe before that I can come around a bit.

Anyway, the fall of 2010 I hope all problems is long gone and that you may be able to run close to me with out problems.

PS. I just got to ask if you in any way are related to Jacky Ickx, he was my first F1 hero.

no I am not , but Jacky Ickx was my first F1 hero as well , back the days I was 6years old ( if my memory serves me well ).guess I was attracted by an Schuco scale Ferrari 312B with J.Ickx name on it . Grin

btw.
WLAN = wireless LAN

Just to add that I also race on a 1Mbit connection and it's not a problem at all. On good servers I don't have warp in any sim, not just GPL. As I said before you wouldn't benefit from having faster connection for online racing, unless you're hosting races, so the problems lie elsewhere.

I was a fan too , first saw him drivinglotus cortinas at Oulton Park then later in F2

I was at Spa in the grandstands opposite the pits in 1968 when Jackie came walking down the pit lane to climb aboard the ferrari 312

All around me were calling his name out loud,  "Jackie", " Jackie", over and over

I thought of his giant killing F2 drive at the nurburgring when ferrari signed him up,  and my hair stood on end , thinking of what he would be trying to do that day   Smiley

now I realised that your main connection is mobil . ( like on a ship , or inside a car.. ).
well , I havent any experiences or knowledge on that , but can easily imagine it could even serve more
probs than WLAN could serve sometimes.

Huh is it called receiver ? that thinghie catch the signals from outa space ?
have you tried  different place inside your flat to locate/place that receiver , just to check if connection quality improves ?
( sry for my bad english )  Tongue

Nicky: i use a mobile connection. Essentially it's internet over cellphones. I get 300-500 pings, which is better than the 60% quality with WLAN.

First, your English is no worse than mine, I use the "Spell Check" before post anything.

Then, I have thought about the thinghie that catch the signal and have been advised to get a extra antenna, maybe that will help things a bit.

I think I will get it for the Adelaide race so if you just stay behind!!! me you can see if it is any better.

My ping, when using the pingtest.net use to be round 80 with jitter about 15.
