A fast tow isn't pointless (IMHO).
The idea is that it takes you around the track back to your pits to complete your lap.
So, last night when I crashed at T1, I immediately got the fast-tow, which made me sit in the pits for just under 3 minutes. Given that Road America is a nearly 2 min track, I therefore still came out on the lead lap and only lost a minute and had a brand new car.
Seems like a fair compromise to me.
Ah, this is what caused me a 199 second fast tow then I was quite surprised after T1 to find that the car was still drivable. However, at the end of lap 1, I came up rather quickly behind picnic (I think) at the final turn and outbraked myself into the barrier. Car was bent so I drove upto the SF line and stopped just beyond my pit box and did a shift-r thinking it would take me back, rather than forwards. You live and learn. The rest of the race was all about playing catch up. Got rear ended again by Burt but was OK to carry on till the end. Many thanks to Pops for the setup which knocked a fair chunk off my PB and gave me much more confidence in the car. Also, no hard feelings Ken. The Dallara provides us all with a big learning curve and the closing speeds between cars is inevitably going to catch people out from time to time. Looking forward to S2 already

Will you point me to a link, please? Yes no problem, once I get it up. Hmm, 200MB even when zipped, to big for my web space. What's the best file sharing site to use??

Also, no hard feelings Ken. Phew, I've been waiting for you to post half expecting a barrage of abuse! Thanks for being so understanding, and yes, can't wait for S2 here either.

I find FileFront is the most convenient these days; Humyo is slightly more reliable but for a file that large the person downloading will need to register if they don't already have an account.

I'm uploading my replay for you (110Mb zipped with just the race session). Will let you know when it's up. Just had a look through and to take some screen grabs and look at the one incident I had with TT early on where we tried to go through the right hand 4th gear corner side-by-side awesome. Unfortunately we touched and TT went around. Sorry TT, so used to racing side-by-side with you of all people, thought we'd make it through there together as usual, but obviously not.

Guess we all still need a bit more room than in GTR2. I thought I left enough room but I don't have the feeling of the girth of the car yet.

Yes, I should have left you some more room, Simon. I'm glad you didn't get turned around as well. 1000 more laps and we're safe and sound.

Yes, I should have left you some more room, Simon. I'm glad you didn't get turned around as well. 1000 more laps and we're safe and sound. I must admit it's not easy to judge where the edge of most of the cars are in iRacing because the cockpit views are so low to the ground and in the closed cockpit cars your view is even more restricted that even on your own I find it hard not to put wheels off the track cause I don't know where the edge of the cars are. With the next to useless glance left/right views on most of the cars they are not helping matters with their backwards view on being so restrictive in where the camera is for racing. For the single seaters I would love to race from a rollbar camera and no bodywork restricting the glance views. I'd much rather have better vision all round over a tiny bit more realistic camera positions and bits of bodywork blocking the glance views.

I think the more you drive them the more you will learn to judge the girth by "sixth sense". It's the perenial sim racing conundrum, but to me roll bar and extended fov views spoil the immersion. I've no problem with others using them, or even chase for that matter, but the whole sim racing thing for me is the visual replication of real life. That's why I've always run low fov in whatever sim I play.

I do think some limited seat adjustment would be useful however. Running as I do with 50-55 FOV it would be nice to just move the seat back a small amount.
