Onto race eight. Things are hotting up in Works with Hristo, John and Jethro in the top three. Over in the Privateers Rick and Al are starting to move away in what promises to be a battle royale. Don't discount Steve B and Bernie though, they seem to be accumulating lots of tokens. Baab (Bob Whitwell) moves up to Works. As usual please bear in mind there are a mixture of driver abilities and no second chances with Pro.

Race List = IGOR
Server = GamesclanT7_2 (please note we are currently using a server kindly provided by Fulvio)
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = 13-12-2009
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Adelaide - 67 version
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Race length = 50 minutes (32 laps)

Password: see above

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
The track can be downloaded from : http://jrpearson.homestead.com/AdelaideCircuits.html (1967 version)
Add-on’s available at : n/a

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 pm UK Time = GMT).

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the new token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

The Championship is split into two sub-divisions, namely Works and Privateers. The current driver split is;

(IP 80.5.200.198) Instructions will be provided in the chatroom – please ensure you join the correct server, due to the way we import if you start the race on the wrong server your result will not count. If you can try to make sure you are in the chatroom by 8.50pm this will enable a decision without any delays to the start time.

The circuit is a temporary street circuit in the East Parklands and played host to 11 Formula One Grand Prix events from 1985 to 1995. It is the scene of Niki Lauda's last race and Ayrton Senna's last win, and it has also proven to be the deciding round in more than one World Championship, including the famous incidents involving Nigel Mansell in 1986 and Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher in 1994. It also held the shortest race in Formula 1 history when the race was stopped after 14 laps due to heavy rain.

This track is awesomely made, however it's rather tricky to drive. The dastardly Honda seems to want to spin at almost every opportunity. Monaco setup not the way then?

I don't think the track is very well made, it's just too crude and bumpy, at least for the 67s. Softer ARB helps as it makes the wheels less dependent on each other and so the bumps are absorbed locally rather than by the whole axle. Otherwise, try stiff springs so the car is more responsive on corrections and turn in. It definitely helps to not overdrive but just focus on putting the power smooth and early, even if you have to brake earlier than possible. At least passes are possible on the backstraight, so Qualifying doesn't decide it all, but T1 might, if you know what I mean.  Roll Eyes

I think the pits exit is badly sighted and could cause problems

During quallifying or any race s/g's it looks like a car pulling out of the pits would be unsighted and exit right into the path of any car entering at speed into the chicane  Roll Eyes

That ended more than 1 race for me on F1GP when AI cars emerged onto the racing line.

No worse than Goodwood or Watkins Glen, and I don't think it caused many problems then....

But........if you are running the race in "PRO" mode there should be no-one exiting the pits during the race??  Roll Eyes

Qualifying however, will require that those about to leave the pits should check and double check Prib to ensure that there is no-one coming. Because, as you rightly say Bernie, they will pull out exactly where the racing line turns into the T1 esses (aka "The Widow Maker".) Undecided

Enjoyed that race, had a good battle with Steve Bird and King Hiro in the early stages.  I knew they would be faster than me if they got by, so I tried to hold them back (fairly Wink) but I was on the limit and made a few mistakes.  Once they were through they dissapeared Sad.  Good clean racing while it lasted Grin

Had a good battle with Hristo for the first 10-15 laps, then I fecked it coming off the Brabham straight into the next tight lefter, where I got a massive swapper on under power and H nudged me off the road. Proceeded after that to plough the hay bales on the T1 exit, then settle down somewhat until the car emptied its fuel tank 3 laps early.

I was expecting people to be quicker in Qualifying, after racing here a month or so earlier in oAo. My start wasn't bad, but the flagman surprised me by dropping the green almost immediately. I think it really caught out Bob who had a bad start and I didn't see him anymore.

So now I had Jethro who was pushing a lot while I preferred to take it easy, so he took the lead on the back straight. I didn't let him disappear into the distance though, so I kept the pressure and stayed close behind.

He was often beyond the limit and missing his lines and saving slides, so I had to take avoiding action here and there, but it was mostly predictable. Eventually I had a run up the inside and passed him, but then while braking for the last corner I saw him dive on the inside from a long distance back and if it wasn't for me swerving left to open the door, it could've been curtains for both.

He was still reckless after retaking the lead, but this time I just kept behind without making any attacks on purpose, though we did run wheel to wheel on occasions. Eventually Jethro lost it under acceleration out of the hairpin and then over-corrected which slingshot him back to the inside. I was already turning left right there and the only thing I could do was to slow down as efficiently as possible to avoid contact. It wasn't enough though and he got nudged off the track and dropped 5 seconds back.

From there on my main focus was to keep up the pace and deal safely with backmarkers, but it was easier said than done. Because many people were having their own duels, it was difficult to have them realize they were being lapped, so there were some close calls. Luckily all went well and nobody got hurt in the process, though I saw some people take extreme measures to let me by - please, there's no need to brake from a hundred meters ahead and go off line, or even off the road!

I had the odd mistake now and then, but nothing major and so finally I saw the chequered flag. Much to my surprise I had over 12 fuel laps left in the tank while Jethro ran of fuel with 2 to go - bad luck!

Grats to all finishers, a lot more survived than we thought.
