No rain dancing here Clive, it's a dry race. I saw Paul practicing in the Elan & reckon he could upset your prediction if he manages not to get too swamped off the line... then he will likely be making SBG work very hard up the front end in his L88. I would imagine MJ in a 914 will be keeping them company & probably a couple of our Italian friends in Fezza's. Always a few surprises likely too. I'm hoping for a decent mid pack race myself, I'll be in the 914 banging out regular 40's, hoping to finally break into the 39's (or maybe the F275s if it's been left out )

p.s. We will definitely be having a 914 only spec race scheduled in this season, should that info help any of the fastest drivers choose not to take it at Dubai this time. Smiley
Very fair, however last races I only saw the fastest drivers chose the faster cars (which is fair also, they are selectable). As for me and I don't want to blow my own trompet (I hope this setence is right) Grin I will not chose the 914, the 275 neither the L88 (the supposed faster cars). I have spent last season trying not to chose the faster cars or the ones that would suit better to each kind of track, but if this season, the faster drivers carry on on chosing faster cars, I'm affraid I will begin to make the same choice. Smiley Anyway, sometimes I wonder myself if Tokens weren't a good option... The consensus after last season was that people didn't want fast drivers in slower cars, so it's not surprising to see people taking what they like to drive. My only concern is when one car seems too quick or too slow for the group. Nobody wants to see a fast driver take a dominant car and win easily. With this system there is only a small group of cars to choose from, and every driver is going to have his/her favourites. I will just pick a car that I enjoy driving, as long as it is fairly competitive. Looks like I can race tonight now, so I'll probably take the elan and try to pester the L88 monsters into a few mistakes.

I might join you in the Elan. Let's annoy those monsters...(I mean, if I manage to have the pace for that).

Tried the 914, Elan & Daytona & am equally slow (1.41s+) in all of them so I won't be troubling the sharp end of the grid here. That chicane/link piece is awful, really ruins an otherwise quite good track.

Agreed! I think Legzy has promised the full track during season 2 proper and I think I will enjoy that.

I quote Ian and Paul regarding the car choice, particularly in a fun event, everyone have to choose the car in which he enjoy more! In the last fun event I think the Abarth was the 3rd strongest car, after the Mustang and the Alfa junior, and I saw not much of the "slower" people taking these cars... and the theory says that if the fast drivers would have taken the same cars of the slower, the result would have been the same... Most of you choose to take a slower car, even if the laptimes were widely known... it's a matter of taste! I had one of the best fight in my P&G "career" with Paul and lentolo (my VDA friend), and Lentolo that is surely a bit slower than me and Paul with P&G, fit perfectly our pace with the Alfa Junior... that was the only way to get a close race for me, when I saw Paul with the Abarth, Mike and Ian with the stang, and lentolo with the Alfa, I knew that I would have fight during all the race at least with 3 of them... for me that was enough funny! About the Dubai race, unfortunately 6 of us are engaged with the ROTW P&G championship, and lele in GTRItalia champ... I think that no one of VDA can make this one ... That means no Fezza for us Cu at the next!

From viewing some of the 914/L88 laps last night and looking at the timings, I reckon tonight's race promises to be close throughout.
It looks like the faster guys will be taking the more (for various reasons) challenging cars: L88/Elan/275 which is to their credit, leaving the rest of us to battle it out with our preferred choices. 914/275/Elan drivers who wish to challenge at the front will need to find a way through the L88s (or make time) in the middle sector which should create excellent racing.
I don't think anyone should feel awkward about taking the 914. I'm taking it because it's the only car I've really concentrated on around here and I enjoy driving it. With the aid of a great setup and lots of practice, I'm now able to keep up with the faster drivers when hotlapping, but we all know that can change come race time.
I hope we have a good turn out tonight and that everyone feels free to choose the car they think they'll have the most fun in.

Since we're driving the cars we like then I'll be in the L88.

I can hustle the L88 round in under 40 on a good lap, but it's messy, I don't really like the 914 though I've used it ok in the past, I like the Elan and the Daytona, but I'm too slow in both I will priobably be using the 275 though I find it rather wayward, I "believe" I am more likely to finish in it than the L88...

im looking forward to a david v goliath battle with the 914vL88, been there many times before in 911 v vipers etc and its always a fascinating/frustrating fight ! agree with others in the chicane area of the national ruining this tracks flow but dont mind it for classic car racing.

First of all sorry to Geoffers for mucking up his race before it had begun... really sorry mate but its not like me to cause a 1st corner colliision, i need more practice in these cars and with wooden brakes! Sorry hate doing things like that and just locked up. Watched the replay and can imagine you watched the whole thing unfold and cringe Love these cars but going to practice harder...... need more pace!

First of all sorry to Geoffers for mucking up his race before it had begun... No worries mate, I made a mess of things myself after that . Crashed 3 times & with a crabbing car I decided to pit for repairs, braked to stop at my pit & the car turned sharp right into the pit garages & the engine died. Just could not get the hang of this track, I like it (apart from the link) but can't drive it!

Very sorry about driving into the back of you at the start Clive. I was so keen to get off the line quickly and make a couple of places before T1. A real rush of blood to the head which isn't usually my style Apologies also to those who were caught up in it. I hope I didn't cause too much damage. I'll put my report in.

Sorry to Ade for T1, pretty poor from me :'( Saw that the three fastest gents were in 914, L88 and Lotus (great pace Paul) so decided to go for the 275 last minute to try and add even more spice. Was getting used to it and better throughout quali but I'd never have got MJ's pole, nice one. After T1 feck up, sorry again Ade, it was pressure Mike for 38 minutes. He made one slip and I was through only to have come back at me 3 laps later. Think that effort might have codded his tyres and I was all over him for last 20 mins. I gradually worked on where I could take him on final section and was quite happy I could do him after a few dry runs. However, the sneaky American must have been watching me and he broke much more than normal in first section so that I couldn't try it. Crafty git Congrats Mike, MJ and Paul. As long as you accept the likely outcome, those choices provide fantastic fun
