Punted off track at the end of the 2nd lap and decided to call it a night.

Sorry, completely lost my line there after rejoining from an earlier excursion and missed the brake point. Sad Didn't feel like continuing either after I saw you go off after that. Wasn't really comfortable with such a fast track and heavy cars, so little margin for error.

That was a nightmare  Angry I spent my time practicing with the Cobra 289 Coupe for Wednesday night, but after real life got in the way I had no time to try a better car combination.

I struggled to get the car to turn-in at the quicker corners, and my last minute setup tweaks didn't improve matters.

Sorry to Eddie for the tangle near the end of the race, the car decided it wasn't going to turn in, so we went wide and I didn't have that much control as we rejoined the tarmac Sad

That damaged the suspension so I just brought the car home in one piece, last but one....

Things can only get better........  Cheesy

I didn't prepare at all for this one and in the end, it showed. Sure I learned the track a bit for the interleague race, but clearly not enough. I can't count how many times I went off at Woodcote in the inter race. The same corner bit me again yesterday. This is a tough old track. I should be happy with 4th, but I was in position to win and rarely make mistakes like that. You got me this time Ian. Seems we've been doing a bit of a see-saw. I'm up next.

I got back from my morning meeting with clients in NYC just in time for end of practice only to be called by my kids for taxi service. Originally, I thougth everyone would be driving Shelby Daytona's so I joined with that. When I saw Ian and Ade in Mustangs, I switched to the Cobra coupe knowing I had setups for that car. While picking up the kids, I remembered I drove the CASC Mustang once at Hidden Valley and wanted to try to battle with Ian so I jumped in it at the last minuted in quali. I had 7 minutes to refine the setup and get a lap in. The only thing I realistically could change in that time was fuel and gearing so that is all I did. Luckily, I hit the gearing perfect, but the brake bias was far too much in the rear. The car was all over the place under braking. Couple that with my lack of track knowledge and braking points and I was all over the place. Sorry to Madd for screwing up one of your hot laps.

I found the start lights at the last second before the start. I only realized where they were once they started to glow red. With that, I got a good start gaining 1 position early. In short time, Madd, Ian and I made a break for it and battled together. Eventually, Madd made a mistake and left Ian and I to duke it out. Like he said earlier, we had a cracking battle for a number of laps. I remember bump drafting him a couple times. I think I was better in turn 1 because my setup wasn't optimal. Ian obviously had a setup that was engineered more for the long haul and mine was good early. In time, I burned down my left front so Ian's car must have been rotating more corner exit which could have comprimised his exit speed. The sore tire came back to bite me last lap when I pushed to hard and ran out of road in turn 1.

Like Ian said earlier, I too do better following than leading. I get an extra kick of adreniline and focus when chasing down someone. Another benefit here considering my lack of track knowledge was using Ian as a reminder to brake for corners. When he dropped 2 wheels coming onto the front straight, I knew I had him and just needed to keep it on the black stuff and I'd have a good shot at victory. It didn't last long though as I threw it away at Woodcote 2 laps later.

I didn't come home on the podium, but had a great fight with Ian and Madd, Sharing fast lap with Geoffers is a treat too. How did we get the same lap down to the thousandths?

I sympathise with phspok, what a difference a day can make.  I had it the other way around - rubbish on Wednesday and a good race here.  Cool

Set a new PB in qualifying, still at the back of the grid.  Looking at the starting grid, I think it was me who was behind you legzy - my reactions aren't good enough.  Roll Eyes Had a good first few laps until my old sparing partner Dan gave me a tap - thanks for waiting.  Grin  After that we had a battle for a while, not always in view but the time between us see sawed for a while until you had some problem.

I had the line about right most of the race, the odd 2 wheels on the grass but definitely no corn cutting or bouncing along the wall.  thumbup1 Main problems I had were due to trying to slow down or move off line to allow faster drivers to overtake - not taking to the grass to let you through Madd-RIP just lost momentum and understeered off.  devil

Oh... I do remember taking to the grass once on purpose to pass Madd. That was scary, but it worked.

Very nice season opener. After my poor display the night before I was determined to take the same car and do better. Which I did; I only left the tarmac once which for me at Goodwood is pretty remarkable. Good racing, some quality tussles, and a tap from someone who should know better all made it an evening to remember.

More like that please.  thumbup1

After this I had quite a fight with first Wiltshire Tony in the other remaining L72 (Great side-by-side battling there Smiley ) and then a longer Fight with Alex Vv in his 289 Cobra.

Having finally pulled clear of Alex I clung on and steadily pulled away only to be lapped by Ian with one lap to go  hammer

It's been a while so I hope I was driving cleanly/fairly in my tank  ninja
Quite a good fight! From what I could see a clean battle on the edge. Gave me enough racing room when I cut inside in the fast corners  sweatdrop
Eventually caught me in the weak spot on the straight. Could not match your speed in the open-top Cobra...

Things can only get better........  Cheesy

That's the spirit! If it's some comfort, I think this is going to be my season's highlight.. Goodwood is a bit of SRou GTL hometrack and with 6 (?) races already run on this circuit in the past, I had a bit of an advantage  whistling

Probably join you Gentlemen Races next week again on the grid just in the front of the Medical Car...    laugh
