Was settling down to be a good race, with Gerard a little way up ahead, then Clive, myself and Tim running close together, but engine decided otherwise Sad

Hope you all had a good one and grats to podium.

No matter how many times I clobbered a wall, pillar, lamp post or another car, that bloody BRM stayed together!!!!!!

Had absolutely no worthy practice time other than to work out what was broken in the bodged setup from a 65 BRM. Computer was being a complete arse which negated any time I had set aside to work on the BRM P261. Thus I lined up plum last on the grid and hoped that the changes I'd made between practice and race worked. They did... almost!

The car was great fun to drive, and on low fuel towards the end of the race it was a real charmer - only one second off evilclive's fastest lap! Had I got a proper time in on low fuel I reckon I coulda been top 3 or 4 based on the number of finishers in this one. Made 2 cockups, one at Mirabeau when the car was sideways on entry and ended up facing the wrong way. Kudos to people for not hitting me. I ended up from 4th-last and fighting my way through the field back to last and doing it all again! 2nd cockup was at the chicane when I clobbered the not-so-soft bales on entry and found my car wobbling more than I could handle it. The end result was a car that was in the crux of the braking point and sideways in the middle of the track, which meant I couldn't see who was coming when, even with Prib. Consequently I went from inside of track to outside of track and Fulvio couldn't miss me in time. Apologies for that.

Thanks to Phil for being a gentleman and letting me through when I least expected it - twice!

If my aggression on track seemed apparant to anybody, I apologise. I'd nearly had enough by the time the end of practice came about, so to actually get somewhere on the grid with half a setup that was OK to drive close to the limit was pleasing.

Hope you all had a good one and grats to podium.

That was very unfortunate Dave, looked set to be a stormer of a race appearing - you were close enough to hassle Evil and keep him from getting away, while I was yo yo'ing closer/further behind you while trying to avoid hitting you in the braking zones. I've a feeling we'd have had a very close race had Clive managed to escape as I think I had the slight edge - certainly in the first half of the lap - but Monaco being Monaco I had no way past  Grin

Must admit my battle with you distracted me so much I forgot all about Gerrard up front. I actually thought that your engine blowing up (thanks for pulling over sharpish BTW) had vaulted me into 2nd!
Only realised I was 3rd after the race when Jethro said 'A Waza 2-3-7' Then rechecked the finishing order and still thought that GPL had messed up  ninja

Anyway, had a good chase after Clive once you retired. He appears to have peeked early going by the fastest laps in the graph, and I spent most of the race lapping to within a few tenths or even thousandths of a second, I even managed to pull him in on a few occaisions  Shocked
Sadly any real hope of catching him evaporated when I put 2 wheels on the pavement at Massenet and performed a tidy 360 - I never actually stopped moving but it cost me about 2 seconds and put me off my stride for a few laps - About 5 laps after that incident I caught the first of the backmarkers, and lost a couple of seconds passing them as we had to wait for safe places to get by.

Big thanks to all cars being lapped as you all left room as soon as it was safe to do so - Im not so sure about Jethro's method of just stopping in the middle of the track approaching Tabac though, it's quite scary braking from top speed on the wrong side of the track  Grin

Good race and Congrats to Gerrard for the race and the Championship  thumbup1

Tim, I promise you that wasn't intentional, and I was relying on people actually seeing me after going through the chicane at flat chat. You missed me, which I was grateful for, however Fulvio couldn't quite when I moved in the gap between you and him to the other side of the track.

Oh, fantastic work to the 2 cars who made sure I wouldn't get out of the bales at Gasworks (last corner hairpin) on lap 1 or 2 despite me taking the widest line possible.  Roll Eyes

LOL, I was taking the mick  Tongue
I've yet to have someone purposely park at 90 degrees to the course to let me through!  Grin

Coming into this race I could not decide between the Eaglet or the Lotus33BRM. I had driven the baby Eagle around Monaco when 66 was released and found it a very forgiving chasis, but the Lotus was nearer to my beloved Brab BRM which I can usually throw at a circuit and get results Roll Eyes .
In the end I plumped for the Eagle as throwing things at Monaco usually ends in tears and tantrums!!

Gerard set a cracking qually time and although I was using race fuel in qually, just to be sure the handling was sorted, I don't think I would have matched that time even with light fuel load. So I was quite pleased to get 2nd spot especially as it is so difficult to pass at Moanco even if you are faster.

Off the grid I got almost alongside Gerard on the run to St Devote and briefly considered calling his bluff down the inside, but I considered that the "chicken" option might give us both a longer race  Wink.

For the first few laps I kept a steady gap to Gerard wh was doing a very passable impression of the Evil "sideways is best" method of driving on his cold tyres. Dave and Tim were never far off my tail pipes and there was no chance to relax as we all got into our stride.

A couple of minor mistakes dropped me back into attack range for Dave and gave Gerard the chance to make a break. It was then that I decided that I did not like someone invading my personal space from behind and stuck in a banzai lap ( which turned out to be the FL  Grin ) to get away.
This closed the gap just slightly to Gerard who was getting far too comfortable up front but experience has taught me that you can rarely run at 10/10ths around Monaco and still be around at the flag, there are just too many places where a fraction off line loses a wheel or bends something. I always race the Monaco circuit 1st and the other drivers 2nd!!
I then relied on Gerard getting friendly with the armco, something that he failed to do!!!, and managing the gap back to Dave at a comfortable level knowing that I had more in the tank if I needed it.
As the race progressed Gerard steadfastly refused to do the decent thing and blow his engine or hit something hard and had the audacity to ease away as well!!! 2nd became more secure when Tim dropped back and I was able to drive well within the limits of the chassis to the flag.
Thanks to the lapped drivers who always moved over as soon as it was safe and allowed us through.

Grats to Gerard on the win and Championship, you were always up the sharp end and quick in all races. Grats to the Wazas who even without Hristo were able to claim some more good points for Her. Grin

WD podium & congratulations to Gerard on a well-deserved championship thumbup1. Really enjoyed the challenge of 30 laps round Monaco. I was going to take the 2.7L Brabham here but after a last-minute test switched to the Brab-BRM (can see why you like it so much Clive - what a great little car). Was impressed that everyone seemed to have a pretty clean first lap (perhaps the tight grid did us a favour). Managed to go a little wide at Portier which let Syd through but apart from that had a clean run to 5th. Laptimes weren't too impressive but I wasn't catching Syd & with nobody close behind I was taking it a bit easier through that tricky chicane.
