Onto the final race of the season at the high speed Monza track. This promises to be a thrilling finale with both the Works and Privateers battling it out with Hristo and John and Al H and Rick respectively.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2 (please note we are currently using a server kindly provided by Fulvio)
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = 24-01-2010
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Monza

Race length = 50 minutes (33 laps)

Password: see above

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
The track can be downloaded from : original Papy track

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 pm UK Time = GMT).

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the new token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

The Championship is split into two sub-divisions, namely Works and Privateers. The current driver split is;

Built in Villa Reale park north of Monza and officially opened on 3 September 1922. The 1933 race was marked by the deaths of three drivers and the Grand Prix layout was changed, with two chicanes added and the longer straights removed. The first grand prix after WW2 was held on 17 October 1948. The high speed bank‌ing was added in 1954. 1961 had a fatal accident, with Wolfgang von Trips and fourteen spectators dying near the Parabolica. Despite the fact that the bankings were not involved in that accident, F1 never raced on the oval again (except in the film Grand Prix made in 1966). The 1000 km Monza staged the last event on the banking in 1969. Various 'safety' measures were introduced in subsequent years with additional chicanes and run off areas.

Consumption for 33 laps is still up in the air too.....

 Grin fun driving a Honda isn't it??   Roll Eyes you feel like an unwelcome passenger most of the time as it tries to throw you into the scenery lol.

oh yes, the fuel issue...just arrange to have your own personal tanker follow you around. Because nothing drinks fuel like a V10 Honda!!  Undecided

So does that make us lucky or unlucky that the RA300 is a V12?  Tongue

Nice of Bob to try and run me off the track at Parabolica in a last-ditch overtake early on. Good job I'd spotted it on turn-in, otherwise we'd have both been out there and then. As it was, that took us both into the kitty litter and from there it was a game of catchup. The car was quite nice to drive, but unpredictable (like most Hondas I guess Tongue) and it bit on the entry into Ascari with more turn-in than I'd anticipated. The car subsequently got very sideways and clouted the barrier square on, which bent the steering somewhat. Couldn't drive the car safely at speed, so parked it after 1 lap's attempt. Not overly happy, but had I been granted the Lotus the last 4 races by HER, the championship could have been oh so different.

Live and learn, eh? Grin

Been a good season overall, S18 Graduates gets a definite thumbs up from me. I've learnt more this season about finishing races than I have in all my time racing. Smiley

I think the less said about my attempt to successfully connect to this race the better.....

Ah well, I've been absent for most of S18, so here's hoping to make amends in S19  Smiley

Made my customary slow start but I enjoyed the fight back with kinghiro and Tim.  Managed to break away from Tim once the wazza tyres were fried and set off after Evil.  Nearly caught him when the engine blew with 5 laps to go.  Very disappointed, that would have been my best graduates result regardless of whether or not I'd have passed Evil (would have needed to rely on melted wazza tyres but the chance was there).

Overall a great season on a popular format.  I suspect the graduates will be on the programme for Season 19 Wink.

I did my best today but it was enough only for 3rd. Even without the mistakes I did due to pushing too hard and tires overheating, the result would've remained the same.

It turned out I had way too safe gears for the race and even when revving to the maximum I couldn't get the Oil Temperature to go over 107 C. That's almost 20 degrees cooler than the safe margin, so there was probably half a second lost each lap.

There was nothing to comment on the race itself. Fulvio made a good start and passed me into T1 and JR followed a few laps later. After that I was left running alone until the end of the race.

Do we still drop the 2 worst results in a season? If yes, then it appears I've won it by a single point, otherwise JR won it.

Cheers,

Wash your mouth out! The RA272 is possibly my favourite car in all of GPL in terms of Fun/Handling  hammer

Shame I can't really say the same about the 300.....
Never the less finished high enough up the order to be happy considering the lack of handicapping (compared to last season)
Bad luck to Phil, I had a right humdinger of a battle with him in the first half, but after what must have been 10laps my tyres were decidedly melty and started fighting back letting him by (again) and helping his escape.

Bad Luck Sam, I've been missing battling you this season. Hope you get it all running next time out  Smiley

Congrats to Fulvio on a solid drive to the flag, and to who-ever's won the Championship  Grin

And biggest of all, thankyou to the mods and various server types for their efforts throughout the season  I Am Not Worthy

I did 27 ok laps with no mistakes and  had phil 500 yards up front and Bob Withwell 800yards behind..then I decide for some reason to go off in Para twice during the last 6 and end up last of the finishers..Not a big deal pointwise but still very dissapointed with that poor finish.
As I can see H won the championship with one point.Gz H Smiley

Hi all,
I noticed this evenings flurry of activity at Monza on IGOR, and it cast my memory banks back to the original 67 italian GP at Monza.  I've a little known story from the track that day, I thought I'd relate.

My father was friends with the recently hired designer of the Honda team, and though sadly that didn't gain us access to the tracks, we did get to hear about some of the stories which never made it to the press.  In this case, it involved a rear upright on the John Surtees Honda. With practice over, on the eve of the GP, he noticed that one of the cars rear uprights,(it holds the rear wheels to the rear suspension) was cracked!  With no spare and no time, the
crack was glued together with araldite, and dried in an oven, overnight.  If scrutineering had spotted it in pre-race inspection, the car would have been disqualified, but all was well.

I watched the race on a fuzzy TV signal in black and white, or rather, in 15min chunks, as there were other sports to cover, but this was at least modern live coverage.  As fans of 67s, I expect most of you know the outcome of this thrilling race - Surtees won by what may still be the closest margin of any grand Prix.  Cosworths last win at Zeltweg with Andretti was pretty close too . . . umm.  Anyway, it was Hondas only win of 67 - he won by a fraction of a second, and a jot of adaldite!

So, for any latter day pilots who've just run the gauntlet at Monza, using equipment that's either, screwed, glued, or even araldited together - you're not trying to be frugal, you're trying to be authentic!  Hope everyone had fun.

Thats a nice tale maddog , i too watched the race "live" on black and white TV , like you say motor sport was definately not a priority in those days , we were lucky to get 5 minutes of poor coverage interspersed between racing at goodwood (the horses kind that is )

One particular part of  Monza race stood out for me , when the greatest of all, Jim Clark ,  had to make a pit stop for a puncture , went a lap down and then made it back through the field and into the lead again unheard of in those days . only to run out of gas in the last few laps .

Monza always came up trumps with close racing before they butchered it with those daft chicanes .

Them was the days  Grin
