Moderator's Report

Overall some very high driving standards mixed in with some aggressive behaviour. Being the first race of the season I imagine everyone was keen to get off to a good start, however if in doubt caution is the better part of valour.

There were a couple of complaints regarding drivers' attitudes in qualifying. Drivers are reminded that when on an outlap, or following a spin please yield to those on a fast lap. This, however, does not give the drivers on a fast lap the right to ask others to pull out of their way.

A reminder to all drivers, if you are not happy with the court findings and you submitted an incident report then you are entitled to appeal against the court findings.

Server replay time: 237s

Fozzmeister brakes too late and rear ends Aagramn sending them both off. This incident was on the first lap where extra caution should be taken regarding braking distances and car performance.

Server replay time: 311s

PaulW and Maurice are approaching T1 on Lap2. PaulW takes the inside line, locks a wheel and tags Maurice, sending him off. PaulW stated that this was not an overtaking attempt but an honest mistake.
PaulW takes a drive through at time 1090s, unfortunately this is far too late to have any bearing on the incident.

  • PaulWpenalty — contact with Maurice — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 556s

Aagramn attempts to pass Jamera on the inside. Aagramn is not level as they turn in and makes contact with Jamera sending him off.

  • Aagramnpenalty — over-ambitious overtake — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 835s

Truetom attempts to outbrake Ginsters into T1. He very nearly pulls off the move but unfortunately locks up and heads straight on collecting Ginsters who can’t avoid him. This was a bold overtaking attempt which nearly paid off, unfortunately it had a knock on effect for the following cars that were probably distracted by the incident.

Server replay time: 972s

Mo collides with PaulW who is trying to vacate the racing line having just spun.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 985s

Enz13_GT has caught up with Mo due to the incident at 972s. He attempts to pass on the inside but locks up and drifts slightly wide making contact with Mo and sending him off.

Rather than ban reserves, I think it needs to be stated that drivers must ONLY join during Practice.  Once qualifying starts, no new drivers can join the server.  If that is done, then any driver who gets kicked during qually will be able to rejoin.  My view on this is that those who are on the server once qualifying starts have booked their place.

Sounds fair enough to me. As a reserve I waited until 8:41 last night to join to find that there were only 17 drivers there. And one of those was a reserve who'd just joined before me. That would have meant you racing against 15 other drivers ruf  Smiley
If you are a full time driver in a race series then getting yourself prepared and ready and joining up during the early part of practice is the least you can do surely. Agree that CTD's and the like complicate things though  Undecided

I didn't really expect to get into the race, being a reserve, but was amazed to see slots available.
So I joined at end of praccy and suddenly realised that I had never raced Barcelona in a GT in the dry before so no setup or praccy!

Really tough race for me suffering from FPS in the 15 to 20 range for most of the race, and also due to some crazy last minute setup guesses which made the car unpredictable at best. Shocked Shocked Shocked
I had countless offs mostly on my own, except for hitting some spinning cars and being nudged into the gravel at Repsol by a Lambo (I think).

Noticed some really weird warping and low FPS around the time that Fozz got the 1fps bug - my car seemed to be suddenly placed several meters to the left of where it was. The same appears to have happen to PaulW who was in front of me and also to the car in front of him who actually disappeared clean through the barriers and into the twilight zone.

Still had fun while it lasted but eventually retired on the last lap when I couldn't see anymore due to the stuttering.
Congrats to JonM, Greg130 and Rich_A on fine podiums - hope I got out of the way safely for you guys.

i think we should forget the reserve drivers joining a fulltime race, i think a few fulltimers couldn't race because the server was full.

i had  FPS problems in quali , so i went out the game, but couldn't get in becuase it was full.

and that was the end of my 1e season 2 race  Sad

If all the full timers actually turned up it wouldn't be an issue, but they don't. If we only allowed full timers the endurance races would be almost empty now. We can't win - if we try and fill the grids people moan because they can't get in, and if we reduce the size of the field everyone moans that they had boring, lonely races.

If you have FPS problems they're your problems. Sorry if that's harsh, and I know the crappy software has to shoulder some blame, but those of us with our machines set up properly shouldn't have to suffer half empty grids just because your machine isn't working right. Angry

Rant over.

I may be alone on this because I dont do a great deal of racing, but if I know I have a race in the evening, Im sat waiting to join at the start of practice, partly through really wanting to get in and race and excitement, but also due to being organised I guess. I know thats not always practical, but for me, thats the best way to work.

Last night I really didnt expect to get a drive (being a reserve) but as so many have said, at 2040 there were still around 8-10 places left.

Perhaps one fix (if its really that broken) would be like Mike Wrightson said. If you cant get on the server in practice, forget it. No new drivers should be allowed to join in Qual (in fact when Ive tried in the past, Ive not been blocked by the game, even with free slots!!). This would allow people who have fps or stutter issues to leave qual, sort their machine and rejoin. A few times people left last night saying "brb, stutter issues" and I doubted they would be able to rejoin.

Just my 2 penneth. Smiley

I was the one who said I had stutter issues and brb.
I had luck enough to be able to rejoin although the server was almost full. Just one spare place left.

Far from me to want to influence the administrator and Dave already replied to this but...in SRP-GTR we use another process. The players that can not attend a race must inform the admin with no less then 24 hours notice. Then the admin post to the reserves there is places available and how many.
If a player miss one race without informing the admin he is penalised (we have rules for that kind of penalties). If he miss another race, even if not the next race, again without prior notice to the admin he will be immediately put as a reserve driver and then a reserve, wishing, can become a full time driver.
It does wonders to keep everyone in their toes and we always know you have a spare place to attend the race, even if you come to arrive late for one reason or another.

I like this, but with 3 chances, not 2. not that i've ever missed a race as a full-timer

RE: all the above, i had similar woes as mentioned earlier...i joined same time as Paul W and only 17 slots taken at 8:41. My problem was with only 3 mins of praccy left, then discovering i had no engine sounds, no-one had time to offer any advice or give me much time to get in & out the race to try and cure the probs. (as it turned out i jumped in and out about 5 times in early qualy trying to resolve the sound issue but no joy with either a lister or a lambo...i even rebooted my pc in case it was me).
Then tried to rejoin qualy and it was full !...so plenty of late arrivals turned up. Sad

Surely its the responsibility of the full timers to be punctual in first practise if they want to ensure their spot ? Cant blame eager reservists waiting to get in late on (8.40+)....technical issues aside Roll Eyes
If anything i think having only the last 5 mins for reserves doesnt give them time to resolve any online probs before qualy Undecided
