What have they done to the Skip?

I can hardly drive the thing now. I always used right foot braking and now it seems clear you have to balance it on the brakes and throttle to keep it pointing straight ahead.

The car seems softer and sloppy in slow corners, has bigger oversteer on entry when right foot braking and has a lot more understeer on exit.

I can hardly put a lap together. I'm in big trouble.

I've found it is more sensitive to setup Brian. Try playing around with the roll bars, pressures, etc and you may well find a setup that is easier to handle.

If anyone has a decent setup they're willing to share that would be really good, I've just been tooling around with the default so far.

Cheers, Ross.

I can only say what I see and standards have been ruddy awful in Oval race and this. One more race like that and it will be three strikes and I'm out.

From what I can tell, the Skippy should only be used at a couple of tracks, i find it just an awful undriveable mess at most locations I've tried.
Couldn't get within 3 secs of my PB in this new build & in fairness I actually could barely complete a "clean" lap.

I'm sure this is a lovely car if your a top driver, but it's pants for a driver of my limited talents. I can't see myself being in a hurry to get back in it. Angry

Luckily our other series, the Indy car is so much easier to control whistling

Roll on the Late Model race tomorrow.

Went far better than I was expecting.

Even in the practice session prior to race I was thinking there is no way I can last 24 laps.

Then the qualifying session went well. Only spun it after the flag came out and I let it go.

From the off Darren was putting me under pressure. Rarely did the gap reach one second but then he drifted back towards PaulH and must have made a mistake to fall right back.

Then Paul went too and that left me space to breathe.

Rather than risk it, I did hold back on the dangerous corners and did what I had to do to come home safely.

Pole, fastest lap and race win can't complain at that.

Finally, a Skippy race that I enjoyed!

It is a bit easier to drive in the new build and responds to setup changes better.  Even after qualifying a surprised 5th, my aim was just to make the finish in one piece.  Survived the twitchy first lap and tried to settle down.  Along the way, paul Richards finally passed me into the chicane (I hate that turn, I can't hit the braking point) and Paul Harrington spun twice, leaving me in 4th with a 13 sec gap.

Then I slipped and spun in the fast right.  Nudged the wall, but the car wasn't badly damaged, though it was more keen to turn right than before.  I couldn't hold Paul H off very long, then just brought it home 5th.

Happy with that.  I still wouldn't describe the Skippy as friendly though  Cheesy

Hate that track, there is a couple of corners I just can't do and with the Skip Barber being so hard to drive it was a recipe for a few off track excursions and spins. No grip, no grip, no grip. Hats off to the Skip masters like Brian and Paul.

Ginsters, you seem to be a magnet for accidents in iRacing, did you exchange bodily fluids with Ralf Schumacher recently?

I span 3 times in total and had three bits of driving across the dirt in various forms. I was in last place at one point but soldiered on, had fun passing other people and finished 7th with all the people that just quit. Why? I was last, span three times and finished 7th, so you can't say it's not worth carrying on, especially when you front guys are lapping 2-3 seconds faster than the guys at the back.

Anyway, on holiday for the next round so with the scheduling as it is won't be back in Skippies until Round 4. With the first round of IndyCar at Brands my next iRacing SRou race is 23rd Feb.

Congrats to Brian on the win and with a great start from Mr Wrightson too that should get Team Shark's team championship off to a good start. Smiley

Sounds like some of the quicker guys could learn a thing or two from the duffers at the back!  whistling lol

That was a great race for me, had a battle with Pete almost the whole way and a wild 3-way close finish with Paul Thurston too. All super-clean, we swapped positions a good few times but all finished and lived to tell the tale. Just how it should be Smiley

I can't see how people think the Skippy is easier to drive. Ok I didn't get the practice I'd hoped for as I got a phone call before the race but that car is still a recipe for disaster; brake, steer or lift and it over steers everywhere. I'm sure I was so painfully slow in a couple of corners people were going to accuse me of brake testing them but that was not the case, I just suck  Embarrassed

Also what's with the spotter and fuel usage. With about 3 laps to go he tells me I only have enough fuel for 5 laps, then on the last lap after that long downhill left the engine is coughing and spluttering and it's obvious I'm running out of fuel. So as I'm causing unfair grief to Paul behind as I almost lose it through that fast right (another corner I'm slow at anyway) the spotter tells me I  only have 2 laps of fuel left, yeah right I don't have enough to be competitive round the next corner! Paul got the place on the run out of the last corner as I had no go. The only positive was I didn't get lapped.
