Hi folks, Cilla 'ere - this one's gonna be a lorra lorra fun.
A nice familiar track but with a twist. You will be on a blind date with the car in front of you on the grid. Your times will be combined to produce the winning couple who will receive a free weeks break in Hawaii (once I win the lottery). The loser will receive the UKGPL blow up dolly, Lotta Fargina, as they may need it  Grin

So, shift/R's allowed, but it's in your interests to help your 'date' as their lost time is your lost time. If this doesn't work hey it's only a fun race, but it could produce some interesting driving tactics...
Now who is the car behind you on a blind date with ?? If you're at the front of the grid there can be only one.

Watkins Glen International ("The Glen") is an auto race track located near Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for 20 consecutive years (1961–1980). In the early years races passed through the heart of the town with spectators lining the sidewalks, but after a car left the road in a 1952 race, killing one spectator and injuring several others, the race was moved to a new location on a wooded hilltop southwest of town. Later a permanent race course was constructed on 550 acres, overlapping part of the previous course. Despite improvements, the circuit became unable to safely handle the increasingly faster and stiffer ground effect cars of the late 70s and a few horrendous, sometimes fatal accidents and increasingly rowdy segments of the crowd began to tarnish its image. Finally, in May, 1981, several months after Alan Jones had won the 1980 race for Williams, the International Auto Sports Federation removed the race from its schedule because the track had failed to pay its debts to the teams.

Duh??!! Huh

So, if I am on the second row of the grid perhaps 4th..then I am twinned with both the car in 2nd spot  AND   the car in 6th place on the grid??? but as two seperate "teams"??

But the cars in 1st and second spots only have a single partner? ( the two cars behind in 3rd and 4th) as do the guys occupying the back row ( the two cars in front of them).  Shocked Shocked

I hope you have a good spreadsheet to calculate all the permutations for the results. Roll Eyes

Or am I missing something here??? Undecided

In 4th you would be paired with the next driver up (ie 3rd on the grid) AND the next driver down ie 5th. So you get two chances to win.
Any other way looked even more complicated LOL
The car in second dates first and third but yes he who is at the front only gets to date the car behind. Couldn't see an easy way round that as no point twinning with last on the grid as you can't influence the outcome.

If it all looks a bit silly just race, will see how it works out for a bit of fun...

Just an idea, how about twinning with the car at the opposite end.

i.e.

1st & 18th
2nd & 17th
3rd & 16th
4th & 15th
5th & 14th
6th & 13th
7th & 12th
8th & 11th
9th & 10th

This also may level the field a bit with potentially fastest and slowest paired up in increments.

19th dips out but introduces a bit of competition to not qualify last on the grid.  They can still race for fun & position, but wont count in the blind date competition.

Obviously may need adapting if there is no full grid, but the races have proved popular so far.

Just and idea.  Smiley

Reverse or mixed grid like this would very likely lead to bad incidents on the start and the opening laps. The difference between some people speed in braking and cornering is too big. Especially when a faster driver in a less powered car is stuck behind a slower driver in a car with stronger engine.
