Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 407s

Brendan takes to the inside of James into the turn but doesn't really have much overlap, James fails to spot the move and turns into him, making contact and half spins, forcing Brendan to a near-stop and Pete unavoidably makes contact with Brendans rear.

James is a little tentative going into the turn which catches Brendan out as he's following quite closely.

I accept this wasn't an attempt at a pass but on lap 1 I'd rather see drivers giving exercise caution than trying to jockey for position so the responsibility must lie with Brendan. The mitigating circumstance of James slow corner entry lead me to offer a warning for this incident.

Server replay time: 737s

Truetom makes contact with Mike Wrightson under heavy braking into T3. This is a tricky corner and is a very heavy braking zone for the next turn which is pretty slow.

Mike brakes at an entirely reasonable point, Truetom isn't following especially closely but fails to get slowed down enough and hits Mike's rear.

A bit more caution needs to be shown in a difficult area of the track.

Server replay time: 2910s

Dan makes contact with James in the last turn of the last lap.

Dan has a huge speed advantage over James and is racing for position. James takes the last turn very slowly which catches Dan out and runs into the back of him, pushing him onto the grass. Dan gains no advantage as he waits for James to re-join and compete the race.

Rear-end contact will mostly attract a penalty but the mitigating circumstances of James' very slow cornering and Dan waiting for him to re-join means I'll reduce this to a warning but it's a borderline penalty.

That was a great race for me, really enjoyed it.

Pretty much equalled my PB in qually only to  be pipped by Purds, it looked like we were shaping up for a great fight when he span leaving me clear after something happened behind.

I was nowhere near the cars in front and had a pretty poor pitstop to let Mike have a sniff in the 2nd half of the race, he seemed to relish the challnge, reeling me in pretty rapidly but fortunately for me the laps ran out and I finished 6th which I'm pretty pleased with Smiley

After Watkins, I can't think of a track that's more likely to suit the Indy Car.... It was alright & certainly of a balance I was prepared to have a go at & race. But again I just feel like I'm fighting the car all the time. Result = little enjoyment & little racing (got roughly 4/5 laps of following Martin from about 1 sec back).

Who said anything about replacing the Skippy?  Huh Shocked
I would imagine if a vote was run for least enjoyed car in iRacing, the Skippy would be very near the top. While some people like it, it alienates many others. Rather like the Indy Car too really.

When I jumped on the grid and saw I was in a Shark sandwich I knew I was in for a tough race.  I wasn't wrong...

Got a good start and instantly tucked in behind Simon.  I pushed hard for a few laps but I wasn't quite fast enough to get any clear overtaking opportunity.  After 5 laps of trying I decided my best chance was to do an early pitstop and try to overtake in the pits...

What was I thinking!!! I'm useless at pit stops, I had no practise and the Gymers are pit stop masters....   Hit with a wet fish

This proved to be the case as Simon gained 4 seconds and Dave 7 seconds.  I Am Not Worthy  This put both of them nearly 5 seconds up the road... Sad

I steadily closed the gap dropping it down to under 2 seconds..  But in my rush to get closer I stupidly became right foot heavy coming out of T5.  This sent me into a semi spin narrowly avoiding the wall; losing me 7 seconds.. Sad

I pushed for a few laps, but then decided to give up on my quest for 2nd and settle for 4th...

Great racing guys..  Clean and fair...

Hope to see you at Laguna...

Was just finishing my crossword off actually....I could see you trundling along behind me and it seemed as good a time as any Smiley.

If you'd have got that run on me to the line passers by may have seen a Playseat airborne.

My practice consisted of an hour and a half on sunday evening to get a setup I was comfortable with and would at least let me stay on the track.  I tried Brian's but I couldn't make it work, I'm probably driving it wrong so I'll have another go with it.

So, in from work, straight on the server and ran qually with half a tankfull just to get used to the car again.  Dipped into the 51's which was nice, at least the car wasn't doing anything unfriendly.  I was quite far away from where I want to be though Sad

Good start saw me pick up 2 places on the first lap Grin but just as I was getting settled in, I got clobbered from behind into T3.  Rejoined expecting a mangled car, but by a miracle it seemed OK.  It did feel a little strange, so I pitted at half distance and changed the tyres.  It was a lot nicer after that and I pushed really hard to be sure of getting back to 8th.  Pops wasn't that far ahead and I was gaining, so that gave me a focus and the laptimes kept coming.  Dan's problems gave me 7th and I just ran out of laps to catch Pops.

I'm happy enough with that. Smiley

With these new post-January build setups I'm definitely getting a lot of my feel for the IndyCar back. Tried Brian's setup yesterday but it had some wierd behaviour in the fast corners, as if the tub was rubbing or the suspenstion was just touching the bump stops.

Went back to my own setup and just added one click of preload to the diff.

It would have been good enough for 4th on the grid, but my clever qually strategy - an outlap, two bankers, an inlap, 3 gallons of fuel, and one more run on the same tyres - fell apart when Firefox decided to inform me of the 3.6.2 update as I headed out on the second outlap.

At least I had the banker laps, good enough for 6th on the grid, just behind Darren and Shark, who looked to be my direct rivals on pace.

Purds was taking it easy at the start which let me protect the inside, and soon I was attached to the back of the battle between Darren and Shark, both of whom were clearly running less downforce than my superglue setup. I should really have trusted in my fuel calculations and stopped at exactly half distance, I think I could've jumped both of them, but I stuck to my plan a little to rigidly, and pitted a lap after half distance, getting me past Darren but leaving me stuck frustratingly behind Shark.

I knew a big mistake was unlikely so all I could do was press hard where I had the advantage, in the corners, and whilst I was clearly causing Shark's attention to be diverted somewhat, I was unable to find any safe way through.

With a couple of laps to go, I decided to back off a bit, especially as my front tyres felt like they were struggling a bit, and settle for 3rd. As it turned out my original fuel calculations were correct and I could've taken 1.4g less than I actually did - don't think that would've been enough to get me out of the pits ahead of Shark though.

I steadily closed the gap dropping it down to under 2 seconds..  But in my rush to get closer I stupidly became right foot heavy coming out of T5.  This sent me into a semi spin narrowly avoiding the wall; losing me 7 seconds.. Sad

I saw the start of it in my mirrors and thought you'd just run in too deep, was quite surprised - not to mention relieved! - to see the gap suddenly shoot up.

I'm useless at pit stops, I had no practise and the Gymers are pit stop masters....   Hit with a wet fish
This proved to be the case as Simon gained 4 seconds and Dave 7 seconds.  I Am Not Worthy

I did a bunch of 'touch and go' runs in practice to make sure I had the entry and exit down to a fine art. What I lack in pace I do try and make up for in preparation.

well that was a shame  Sad

Agree about the Indycar, its my favourite so far  Cool. It's just hard to jump in it every two weeks and get on the pace as I cant race it yet with my licence  Undecided Roll Eyes

Was happy with 7th in quali and happier to pip my team manager  Wink... unfortunately while we were lining up my girfriend had just got off the phone after some iffy news on her mums health (turned out okay) and she was talking to me to non-stop... quite distracted I went wide on the pace lap with a harmless 'x1 off-track' and was (ops) trying to ignore her, but obviously I couldn't and I felt bad for not quitting but.... you know...  whistling

Went well for 7 laps after an easy start but for a persistent Pops on my rear! ....before I locked up and got on the most unforgiving grass ever  Embarrassed after a tow I was only just on the tail-end of the field but promptly fell off within a lap.... you cannot drive these cars without full attention!  laugh so I quit, plus I don't like abusing the tow rule too much!

Wish we could race these every week!  Smiley but I find the Skippy's definitely help improve finesse for racing the IndyCar

Well I seem to have finished another chapter in the Racing Driver's Handbook of Excuses  smartass

Dave, I'm using your setups if I get stuck from now on.  I just tried yours, suited me well and I was soon doing mid 51's   Roll Eyes
