Well another tale of woe here. Running nicely in 5th behind Simon and ahead of Darren. On the very lap I intend coming in to pit the bloody tyre blows at T1. T1, I mean, why couldn't it be near the end of the bloody lap. I attempted to tour back but the sodden thing just would not turn right for toffee so I took a tow. So while I read this weeks FT waiting for the timer to count down everybody buzzes past and I'm dead last, again!! As Dave mentioned you are then spat out with full tanks (has anybody found a way round this yet?) and eventhough I felt like I was getting a move on in the second half of the race the laptimes tell a different story and there was no way I was going to catch Iain and Martin. I need to change my driving style. It was obviously all due to my trail braking in T1 and at the hairpin. If you don't trail brake in T1 you seem to spend a very long time in the corner, but you guys are doing 12's so it must work. Like I said earlier I'd like to see a 1:12 irlap and see where I'm going wrong.

I followed both for half the race before I hit Ken...  Coming out of T2 I was on full power right behind him...  Then all of a sudden Ken decided to stop..  Sorry for the contact Ken.  I wasn't expected you to stop there, especially on the racing line...  Shocked

Sorry Darren, but there wasn't much I could do. The tyre obviously blew under braking and then the car just wouldn't turn in the corner so I ran very wide anyway. I thought staying well to the right was the only thing I could do with you being so close. If I had swerved over to the left it would possibly have been an even bigger collision. Anyway I doubt whether I could have swerved anywhere with the flat front, I was a sitting duck.

Must be something strange with your driving style Ken as the IndyCar has very little wear for me. Turning the wheel too much and locking the wheels is usually the problem. I could have probably done that whole race twice over without changing tyres. The DP on the other hand I shred the left front and have to drive very carefully every race to avoid a puncture.

Don't think I can possibly beat Shark on an oval though.

Another case of typing too soon Gizmo! I'm not intending to do the oval race as I have better things to do than sit behind a safety car for an hour.

I actually like the IndyCar, now that I'm getting on top of it, but it's so setup sensitive, and it bites if you try to edge beyond the limit.  I'd run it again next season TBH, but the DP is more forgiving.

That's both Laguna races that I've thrown away a top result by my own stupidity.  I'm so hacked off because I had genuine pace in both of them.  Raced my heart out for cod all.

At least Martin and I enjoyed the race...

Knocked nearly 1s off my PB in qually but ran wide up the hill on lap 1 to let everyone past Roll Eyes

Picked up the places again only to let Martin past coming to the stop. Managed to close down again after the stop only get a (deserved) black flag through corkscrew when I messed up my braking. Idiot.

I was gradually hauling Martin back in again when he lost it in the last turn and I was quite fortunate to avoid him. Kept it steady after that for yet another 6th place finish.

Pity we won't have much of a turnout for the last race but at least we might get through it without too many yellows  Tongue

Yes, I'm locking the inside wheel by hanging on the brake pedal on corner entry. GPL hangover I think!!   Smiley

Talking about GPL, I still have it on my HD and run it occasionally. Some guy has been posting some texture updates recently so I took the Lotus round Goodwood to check them out. Within 7 or 8 laps I'd posted a PB. So this iRacing lark does seem to have had some benefits, just they don't seem to be very apparent in iRacing!!!!   Roll Eyes

I never had a hope of going by though and felt like I was being toyed with tbh as he could extend a second out from me seemingly whenever he wanted to. I guessed his car was damaged, but it wasn't damaged enough. Wink

Wasnt toying with you at all Simon , I had major damage to the front left which was ok through left handers but terrible through right handers...If you had made a move i would have just let you straight trough.

How close was qually !!   Awesome stuff . Wink

Good race even though i dont like the track.   Start was fun with Simon along side through the first corner.  Was ready to settle in for the first few laps in 4th and then the unthinkable happened ..A Gymer making an unforced error  Shocked  I had a sneaky feeling they werent machines  Tongue  Dave lost it at the fast left before the corkscrew which gave me 3rd.    paul was setting a fast pace with Michael in tow and the latter started to pull him in.   I started to close a bit on Michael when he was close to Paul as i think Paul lost a bit of concentration (maybe looking in the mirrors to much ??). Michael pitted on lap 15 i think and i stayed close to  Paul ( 2 secs) but made some errors so decided to pit at the end of lap 18.   Made a good stop and managed to get out in front of Michael, Started too pull a gap ever so slightly over Michael untill i lost it at T3 and hit the wall which totally bent my front left suspension.
Thought it was game over but after a couple of laps i got used to the cars behaviour,  Simon caught me and i was ready just to let him passed if he had made a move, The only way i stayed ahead was the fact that i could still attack the left handers.

grats to Paul .

Only done one oval race i think so have no experience what so ever...Damage limitation i think.

Interesting to hear the tyre streading stories!
I had the same issues in practice, was killing them, I did modify my driving style and it worked out ok in the race!
Front left was still 50% after half race distance! Luckily that was all factored into my strategy!  Wink

You guys... ovals are brilliant! mind you I still think the Silverado gives the best experience!
It's a mind set thing, you either get it .. or you don't !  Wink but you need to try a few races until you get it all figured out!
Most of you guys hate it cos you are used to winning!  Grin
Oval races are not always won by the faster guys! they are won by the smartest!  : Grin Grin Grin

Obviously why I am so good at them! lol

I will do the oval race if you get rid of full course yellows. It's just unbelievably boring sitting behind the pace car every few laps which is why I'm not currently bothering with Oval Racing in the official series cause I did the Late Model tour, but once you get up to the trucks or above it's full course yellows and the height of utter boredom (as if going around an oval wasn't dull enough already Wink).

If I promise not to turn up that'll reduce the number of yellows by at least half  Embarrassed :'(
