Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 358s

Legzy runs off the track and lets Spanner through before rejoining. On the next left curve he makes minimal contact with H@L causing H@L an unexpected trip into the barrier.
Due to the fact that H@L requested no penalty and Legzy took a drive through anyway, I propose no further action.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 998s

GsiBob goes very wide on the penultimate right hand bend giving the possibility of a better entry into the last corner and start/finish straight. Although this is not repeated on every lap, he does this multiple times during the race.

This corner has been subject of much debate in the past. The SROU rules say the following:
•Under normal circumstances the simulation's internal cut detection will be relied upon to police the cutting of chicanes and other corners.
Drivers are strongly discouraged from the deliberate placing of one or more wheels on areas of grass, gravel and sand.
Clear and deliberate cutting which evades detection by the simulation may still result in a penalty.

  • gsi bobadvice — Keep to track boundaries where possible.

Server replay time: 1010s

GsiBob gets a good run down the start/finish straight and makes contact with SbG. Ginsters is forced to run wide off track and loses a place.
GsiBob spends the rest of the lap racing with Simon's Lotus and does not immediately return the place.
A straightforward case of rear end contact with a slight mitigation that Bob was under control and able to brake later than SbG.

  • gsi bobpenalty — Rear end contact — 1 place lost

Server replay time: 2638s

Odd one this.
A backmarker spins in front of Legzy causing Legzy to slow for a moment at the end of the lap. Jayblue and Truetom and coming up to lap and are racing very closely. Jayblue is able to avoid easily but Truetom only sees Legzy very late and contact in inevitable due to the vast difference in speed.
As Truetom is not really racing Legzy, he does not wait and re-joins battle with Jayblue. Legzy is not at fault having been slowed but just appears in the wrong place at the wrong time as the leaders sweep through I'm afraid.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 3527s

GsiBob's car is lagging badly in this phase of the race. His car disapperars and reappears at the end of the straight. Api hits the lagging car and is flipped losing time and position.
I intend to deal with the general issue of GsiBob lagging during this race in this section as it is the only specific incident together with more genaral comments from several racers. It is not the first time GsiBob has had these problems during a race although it is acknowledged that he has made efforts to counter the effect.
People lagging are usually asked to leave and re-join through the on-screen message system or by Teamspeak and given his history of this problem it would be advisable if Bob had left this feature switched on so people could warn him. Warping can spoil the race of many people and there is the option to exclude lagging people from the race if it happens too frequently.

  • gsi bobcaution — Do all you can to avoid warping when racing - keep coms on.

I was pretty happy with my quali lap as the traffic was crazy, particularly at the start of the session. I was able to squeeze a few more tenths out but i had to play it safe and get a good time in after i blew a couple of runs trying too hard!

For the race i started well and me and Berger starting getting away well, then i made a rookie mistake and span out on the brakes after the long back straight. I dropped behind Berger, TT, Andy and Jose. My pace fell away for a while, i lost confidence in the car. Some opportunist driving saw me get by Jose and Andy in one move as they battled and once that happened i started to pull away and catch TT. Berger was bumped off by a backmarker and lost a lot of time, leaving TT in the lead. I knew the BMW would need fuel so i took my time to try a pass. A few times i got alongside but TT defended well and i wanted to keep it very clean and maintain the gap to Spanner and Berger. After quite a while i managed to get past with a switchback at the end of the straight. Great racing TT  Cool

I pitted for tyres only on lap 29, i was fuel saving throughout the race. Afer emerging with a six second lead over Berger i put the hammer down and managed to hold the lead to the flag. The Porsche was a tricky race car and it seemed to constantly try to catch me out, maybe it was my setup! Congrats to Berger and TT on podiums.

I know in the GT3 class the result will the subject of some debate so i will only say i know Bob tested his connection earlier in the day with some others on the server and that during quali it was fine. I followed him for several laps at the end of the race and i saw some bad warping, but then his car was also ok for several laps too and his ping seemed fine  Huh

I also know Bob drives without his game chat turned off as it distracts him, although i think from now on he will drive with it on to avoid any issues in the future. This being the case i know he had no idea about the issues he was causing for everyone else  Sad

AH yes. I went in a bit deeper/braked a bit later, wasn't really a mistake, just incompetance  Grin
I managed to correct the back end ok, and thought nothing more of it, as much my fault for not being consistent.
but having watched the replay I saw the knock on effect, I wondered why you both dropped back so much.
Still bemused by how I always seem to lose big chunks in stops, Usually I make the excuse that the Viper needs more
fuel and eats tyres more, but Nsfast was in an indentical car, and gained around 30 secs on the stop
I was running hards all round, The front was still going orange occasionally, and though the rear wear was a bit less
I don't believe I could have got away with one set of rears for the race. I always overdo the fuel, so I must lose
some time there, but only a few seconds worth. I used to lose more time, but now I do a pit request, which seems
to get them out and more ready. Now I preset the stop, glance at the board in case it has big repair time I don't want
and hit return. This stop was 55 secs.
I also saw Bob leaping back and forth from behind me to in front, I just drove to one side so as not to be on the same line.

Q.2....R.2

i get no good lap in quali, i always make mistakes, think the car is difficulty to drive with low fuel, more then 1 sec. behind me PB i was, not good.

start was ok and i did save my 2nd place, after any laps jayblue was perhaps 2 sec. in front, but then he did spin and i was in lead, i did quick get the lead bigger and any laps later i was 10 sec. in front of truetom and 12 in front of jayblue. In this time i was nearly sure i can win this race, because car was very stabile and my speed was good too with little fuelsave for not do fuel take in pitstop.
but then i did overtake a lapping car, then come little straight and in end of straight he hit me from behind in doing brake and i come in sand (gravel) and car nearly not come out of sand and i loose 25/26 sec., then i was 6th i think and 14 sec. behind the leader(s), not happy i was.
i was happy that jayblue was behind the leader and i come closer again, i was 10 sec. behind leaders and 4th place, but then i was behind spanner and i loose time behind him, i am not a great overtaker and his car did sometimes lag? (standing short and then jump perhaps 20-50m in front again) not often this happens but i always get nearly a hard attacke if his car was suddentyl in front of me.
so i did change strategy, i did a earlier pitstop for not loose time and perhaps after pitstop i can do any quick laps and overtake any cars in pit.
after the other drivers did pit, i was 3rd, around 5 sec. behind jayblue, but i was not able to catch him, think we was in nearly same speed. But when the stint get longer and longer it seems that he was little faster, perhaps i had more bad tyres because my early pitstop, in end of stint my car was very hard to drive, more hard then in end of 1st stint, so i am nearly sure that this car do not like low fuel.
i did end my race with 11 sec. behind jayblue in 2nd place. i did a good race and i had a good race speed too.
the lapping cars did again a great job, it helped me a lot if the GT3 cars did flash the lights, always save overtakes then possible.  congrats to class winners and podiums!

After a very poor race at Enna in the F430, I decided on a whim to try the Mosler and had a pretty good race in it.

Qualified a ok-ish 12th but most of qualifying was trying to set the car up for the race. Got something that didn't seem to melt the tyres but had to guess on the optimum fuel (incorrectly as it turned out)

Had a good start to the race and picked up a few places after an early incident at T1. Spent the early part of the race 'racing' SBG in his lower class Z3 - a true alien Smiley - but managed to get a ahead and build a cushion. From there I was by myself in 8th all the way until near the end when I noticed that the Mosler was a bit more juicy than I realised. I backed right off with 5 mins to go and Bob began to close fast. He overtook on the 2nd to last corner before I ran out of fuel and *just* coasted across the line to finish 9th. Could have been a lot worse  Smiley

Looking forward to driving the Mosler in the next race and well done to all the podiums.

Dave, is changeable weather going to be reinstated for the remainder of the season? That would get my vote.

Was a bit unsure before the event as i hadnt really driven the Porsche recently and when i have i'm not been gel'in with it or perhaps driving it how it should be driven. Was finding this track quite difficult with it struggling to turn in and to stay turned in rather than washing out e.g left-right before second split.
Was quite happy with my qually time being 4 tenths up a few times and not being able to finish it due to traffic. Qually was quite manic with everyone out at the same time and it seemed to get a bit rough at times even on the out lap.

With the usual soft-meds on it i was worrying about whether i could manage the softs as the fronts do get used round here a bit and the rears like to spin up out of the corners and with a decent qually position  i was going to go with 50:50 fuel then at last minute stuck 60L in for the start with the usual stop half way.

Come the race i was able to stick with Jose ahead but was slowly dropping off as the gap behind to Prof grew. But first Legzy threw it off on the curbs at turn 2 then it seemed most people were falling off somehow so was running 3rd at times! Fun running nose to tail with Jose and Purds at times but the traffic helped spread it out.

Was kinda glad you dropped back a bit Berger then pitted but didnt realise i was warping a bit, sorry. It seems to happen everyrace and i think only since i've stuck the new gigabit homeplugs in. One review i read did say they arnt quite so tolerant of noise so will stick the older ones back in in future. Though i am using a wall socket for these, before i had them in a 1m extension of the wall so cant beleive they are worse.

Was quite worried when you popped out of the pits Purdie as i was sure i couldnt hold you off but you then seemed to fall off at the next corner Huh But ended up with about 10secs up to TT and Jose but then Jose dropped back and was fighting with Purdie so i was slowly managing to gain on TT dropping it down to about 4-5secs while in 4th till the end.

Susprised to do so well but i realise it was a bit of a gift as 3 of 4 people should have been right up there ahead of me.

I knew the track very well, and kept it on it for pretty much lot of the race, I thought 1:30s were decent for me, not driven the 430 GTC before. Had a stable setup, im more pleased I finished the race than anything, only thing that confused me was, im sure the lap counter on right top side of screen was showing like 20mins left of racing still?

I spun T2 after I came out of the pits.... school boy error!  whistling

I forgot to mention it, but yes I noticed the warping too. Can't remember when but it happened at the hairpin and I went straight on in panic of a flashing 911 in front, didn't have any effect on the end result though!

I'm glad you mentioned it so I can pencil in another excuse!   laugh

Bring back GTR2!

« Reply #37 on: February 24, 2010, 10:09:58 PM +0000 »

I’ve raced at Hock quite a lot because it’s used in GTR2, GTL & PnG… I remember really enjoying my very 1st race here (a GTL test of the DB4, also interestingly on the National circuit) but I think partly due to my dislike of T1, I’ve never enjoyed a race here since. Till Sunday that is…

I tried out eight different cars for this one, with at least ten laps in each & I still hadn’t made my mind up at 8pm. The Z4 was fastest for me (I didn’t try the 997 which looks very popular) but it's just got too much grip making it too easy & in the end I plumped for the Fezza that I ditched last time we raced these GTC’s (it’s just not as much fun as its GT2 big brother laugh).

Shocked myself in qually & blew my PB out the water by about 1+ secs to earn 5th. Shocked

Race started & I was comfortably waiting on the back of the leading train, while easing away from Spanner behind. Had a bit of a wobble going through the stadium twists & started mowing the grass. Looked behind & saw the delicate Prodigy shade of green coming past & thought I saw another car tucked in behind Undecided so waited… after Spanner, no one came past & I couldn’t hear anyone so half-rejoined cautiously just in case & bang! Sadly H@L was there & didn’t have enough space (fearing the kerb on the other side. While it didn’t affect me, H@L skidded off across the grass in my rear view so I pulled over to wait. As most of the field went past I panned round behind me & could see he was wedged in the wall & not moving. So decided to carry on & did a drive through to punish myself. As I said on PM, sorry H@L.

Rejoined dead last & by some 12-15 secs. Then I just drove out of my skin, managing to get myself hauled up to 7th spot at half way & I was literally going to jump in the pits when… two cars dead ahead came together, I managed to stop & go round them, but then Jay was right on me through the twists & carrying momentum, moved over so he could get straight through & unfortunately TT hit me from behind following closely to Jay. When I’d recovered the car from the resulting spin, I dived in the pits as planned but now had to sit for 1:44 while they sorted my suspension/aero damage. Frustrating. Sad

Came back out in 20th (having lost more than a lap to everyone Angry) & again drove superbly (if I do say so myself Grin), passing people, unlapping myself & making no errors (despite being hit 3 times by Bob’s warping car Roll Eyes). Managed to get all the way up to 13th by the end. Chuffed with that & had one hell of a race…  thumbup2/ surrender

But I know that if I’d just not had one of the two big incidents, I’d have finished 5th easily. While if I’d had neither incident, I’d have walked away with a rare podium.  Ah, you’ve got to love “what if’s”. laugh

Legzy

p.s. I think the GTC + GT3 mix worked really well.

Yep, no worries mate.

The incident caused me to loose control but, it was bad luck that ended my race.

The TVR is great fun btw! Cool

Sad

Yeah i saw that in my mirror  Shocked

I hate it when i see backmarkers try to make space for me and then something bad happens to them, makes me feel bad even though there is nothing i can do  laugh

I think I am supposed to advertise the fact that the moderator's report is complete here now rather than in a separate thread. (Sorry Dave if not  Grin)
