Apologies to Syd for rear ending him and putting us both out of the race. It appeared that you were having probs with the rear end under braking and I thought you were going to go wide so I aimed for the inside...but you twitched back again Undecided Tried to add more anchors but to no avail...sorry Syd.

BTW Tim.... Lap 1 you and your red thing were warping VERY badly when you passed me. You vanished for about 300 mtrs after the Dr wotsits curve and I had no idea where you were until you turned off the Klingon cloaking device and reappeared right alongside me . I was so startled that I performed a 360 spin on the straight up to the final turn!!!

Yeah, don't know why it happened - had all cleared up by the time I hit the start line and never came back  Huh
You got your revenge anyway - when you and Syd decided to play rough I reacted and dived to the inside of the corner, straight into the rumble strips which somehow clouted my car something cronic.
I recon I lost about 100Bhp from that as I lost so much speed and acceleration. Having gone from dropping H a bit (Possibly through luck, no idea if that would have lasted either way!) I then found myself being caught and passed by even BT19's on the straight!  Shocked

Was really humiliating having them pull away on the main straight even when I was right behind them  hammer

Oh well, roll on the next race  Cool

I can't believe I missed this race.  I have been wrapped up filing my 2009 income taxes and it didn't hit me until 10:05 pm your time.

Wrestled with getting the Honda to play nice in practice. Qualified near the back, expected to stay there and hope others fell off. The start was good, until everybody activated their cloaking devices. They reappeared just before T1. Whacked Nigel when I drifted wide in T1, and couldn't hold it. Killed the engine as I wasn't getting top revs, then I ripped a wheel off.

Should really practice more!

After being wound up in chat about expected lap times and thinking I was way off the pace in my allocated Eagle, I was expecting a very poor race here.
I managed to grapple with a setup that seemed as good as I was likely to get, and put in a 1:50 lap on race fuel as a "banker" which at least got me a mid grid position.

Then I dumped all but enough fuel for 7 laps and went out for some banzai action.

I was fortunate enough to leave the pits just as Hristo was passing and got myself just about into his slipstream for a couple of flying laps. That made all the difference and I posted a very pleasing 1:48 lap that gave me pole position...very unexpected!!!

The start was as good as I expected with the lack of power against the Fezzas and other heavy machinery Undecided
Tim powered past after T1 and I followed in his slipstream down the back straight until he started his vanishing trick Shocked.

Tim's red thing was blinking in and out of vision as we entered the long right hander and then pulled the ultimate defensive tactic by disappearing altogether for the next 3 bends.. very disconcerting!! Roll Eyes. Just as I was beginning to think that he must have disco'd and I was clear to give it some welly, there was suddenly a Ferrari front wheel right next to my right hand mirror!!!! I jinked left and put a wheel on the grass which sent me into a 360 spin.  I manged to keep it on the grey stuff and luckily there was no-one too close behind, but I dropped to about 6th spot behind another red thing driven by Syd.

The power of the Fez made any chance of passing on the straight a no-hoper , but Syd appeared to be struggling to get the beast slowed down and turned into the corners. I used his slipstream to keep me in touch down the straights and hoped for an opening in the corners. Our combined pace drew us closer to the cars in front and then Hristo and someone else tangled lifting us to 2nd and 3rd, with Dave making the most of his opportunity to escape. I felt that if I could pass Syd, I could catch Dave, but my only hope was to wait for a mistake from Syd to give me an opening to pass.
I thought he had overcooked the braking into a bend and lined myself up for a chance then his car squirmed back under control and the gap closed.
Apologies to Syd, but I just could not scrub off enough speed to avoid a tap on his rear...which finished both our races.

Grats To Dave and podium , and all finishers.

That was quite an eventful race! I started second as I couldn't do a clean lap in Qualifying and after Evil had done a very fast time to take pole, but a couple of cars passed me on the run towards T1.

I settled for 5th or 6th for a bit in attempt to avoid any risks, but made a position when the car in front didn't get a very good exit out of a corner. Then I was observing Tim's disappearance near the end of the lap and Evil getting caught out by his reappearance a couple hundred meters later, so that gave me another position.

Tim finally lost it completely on the exit of the final corner at the end of lap 1, so yet another position for me at the time. The cars around me were very fast on the straights so it was difficult to keep them behind even if I was in front them at corner exits, but eventually I found myself behind Syd who was in 2nd at the time.

He braked a bit too late for T2 and went wide, losing speed in the process, so I took the inside and carried more speed, but he turned back in towards the ideal line when I was already side by side with him. The contact sent us both off and by the time I recovered I had dropped down to 8th or so.

It took a while to catch up and pass people, especially some fast cars that managed to get me back on the straights, but gradually I made it up through the field and was also helped by the incident between Syd and Evil.

By the time I was up to 2nd Dave was some 9 seconds up ahead and it took many laps to reduce the gap. We had a good battle once I caught him up, but it was very difficult to escape him. Even when he was some 2 seconds back the slipstream and his engine power was enough to bring him closer once more. It wasn't until a couple of laps later when I finally managed to escape giving him a tow.

All was going well after that and I was just waiting for the finish, but the engine blew up with 2 and a half laps to go. It's not a complete surprise as I had to really rev it up on occasions to extract the maximum power out of the Ford engine.

Grats to Dave for the win, see you next race!

Pleased to qualify 5th with a low 1:49 which was about the best I could expect, although prib showed a 1:48 was in there somewhere!

Got a good start, but by the exit of T1 was back to starting position as H decided to reclaim some ground that he'd lost through having to drive his Ford Handicap.  Managed to pass him for 4th down to the big sweep and then gain another place down the next straight to put me behind Evil and Tim.  As previously described, Tim's disappearing act was very disconcerting and I was relieved that he didn't reappear on top of my car as I closed a bit on Evil!  I'm not surprised at Clive's reaction to his being beamed back down, first one side and then the other side of the track.  With poor Clive spinning off as a result I was up to second in the approach to the final turn still on the first lap, when Tim spun and I was amazed to find I was in the lead for lap 2.  Shocked

There was clearly a lot happening behind with various drivers chasing for a few laps, but I just got on with trying to stretch the lead as much as possible before the inevitable recovery and chase down by one of the usual.

Eventually it settled down with Hristo taking second place a few hundred yards behind, so I focused on trying to maintain this gap as much as possible.  Even though I think I was putting in consistent 1:50's and some 49's of course the gap still came slowly down, as H did his usual digging as deep as necessary into his talent.  My only chance was to raise my game and tried to take a half second off each lap but despite this extra effort and risk, I was disillusioned to see that he was still taking up to 40 yards off a lap.  I then ran into the barrier after the main straight through pushing too hard and allowed H to close right up.  Managed to follow him for a few laps by tow alone but another mistake against the barrier and he was gone.

To find Hristo pulled over with a couple of laps to go, gave me very little satisfaction as I really didn't feel it was a deserved win and felt bad after seeing all his efforts.  Still, at least we didn't have to hear all the rubbish about how pleased SHE would be!  Grin

What a great track - had some really good fun racing & admittedly some good fortune too. Syd sped past me at the start so I found myself running 6th for the first laps. Then Syd had a wobble on the entry to the Bosch Kurve (or whatever it was called in '71) so I sneaked by on the inside to grab 5th. That became 4th after Clive dropped back & I was following Goran & Hristo when they had a big collision so suddenly I was up to 2nd. With Syd still pressuring for a way past, I overcooked the entry to the Bosch Kurve & had a pretty hefty shunt which unfortunately snagged Clive too. Got going quick but when I saw Clive was behind me decided to leave the door open for him as (a) I wasn't sure whether I had major damage so wasn't sure I'd make the turn at racing speed & (b) I also felt a bit guilty for tripping him up just before.

A cautious lap revealed that amazingly there was no damage to the car, so I managed to close up again on Clive & Syd's battle just as they came to grief at the Bosch Kurve. Tiptoed past the carnage to reclaim 2nd but swiftly lost that to a recovering Hristo & then Tim's Ferrari. Tim did seem a little short of revs down the straight so after a few tries managed to get a clean overtake into T1. After that my teammate Steve loomed up behind & I spent the rest of the race in what felt like a really tough battle though I suspect he was cutting me a little more slack than he might anyone else Wink Either way, any mistakes would have cost me the place so I was relieved to see the flag. Congrats to Steve & Dave on the win. As Dave said, it wasn't much of a triumph gaining a place for us because of H's last minute retirement, but it was an exciting race for me all the same. And I've just noticed that I'll have to take a chassis handicap for the next round Cheesy.
