Maybe the practise session between races 1 and 2 could be lengthened to provide a "comfort break" for drivers and then employ a random grid for the 2nd race, so no need for a second qually, plus it mixes things up a bit.

Sort of what Ian was trying to achieve, but then some quick people went and qualied, and I watched myself
sliding towards the back! so went and did a couple of qualy laps.
Tudor suggested start order being reverse of 1st race finish order, isn't that like what they do in some real racing
series? Could be fun, but how could it be done?

A longer single sprint, say 40 mins

A sprint for 40 minutes  Huh   nah,,,,, that's not a sprint IMO.

I for one like the this format, especially if the grid gets reversed for the second race. I do believe though, that the smaller cars are better fitted for this type of race

The reverse grid sounds like fun. For me, that race has to be longer than 20 mins or I would predict an incident fest as faster gents would have to push very hard to get through in that space of time. Perhaps one race of 40 mins based on the dataset produced by Mike, in reverse, would be fun?

Great to see a good turnout and also great to see some of the faster guys trying to run through the field in race 2. When I orginally thought of dual sprints I really wanted to do a reverse grid, but GTR2 doesn't have the capacity to do so. Race 07 has the dual race with reverse grid built in and rFactor gives the administrator the ability to manually edit the grid order. I'm not aware of a function like that in GTR2.

When Tony did the Mustang, Challenger, Cuda series for GTL with the random grid, I greatly enjoyed trying to come from behind to get a good finish when starting from the back, but unfortunately, I felt a bit hurried to get to the front when someone like Ade was gridded at the front. I then was too forceful and probably didn't make too many friends along the way. Ian's idea is fantastic. Reverse the starting order based on average finish position and give the guys from behind sufficient time to try to make it through. Do you guys think this could work?

I'm thinking the quali session could go as such
1. I anounce drivers names in reverse of average finish position
2. As I type your name, line up at the entrance of turn 1
3. After the driver is announced, I'll instruct the 1st car on track to lead the group towards the start/finish
4. Before crossing start/finish, I'll ask everyone to close up and engage pit speed limiter. (i'm not sure if this works as I'm still not at home to test) If this does not work, then lead driver can drive at a fixed pace with the rest of the field in toe.
5. Every 10 seconds, the 1st driver in line can accelerate to a quicker fixed pace to cross the line.

It's not perfect, but it might work. With 40 minutes, it would give us a chance to mix up the field and still allow enough time to make sensible passes.
Do you guys want to give it a try?

Hi guys! Good race 1, but with a noob mistake when it least 1 lap to go, ade-Paulo taking advantage of this, stealed my pody!
In 2nd race, it was good to start from the back with Ian & ade, and I had a great fun coming back by the last position. Unluckily in lap 1 hotkeys lost the control of his car, and I couldn't avoid the impact with him... my suspention was broken, but the car was driveable yet.
The rest of the race was a sequence of good overtakes, maybe a bit rude than my standards, but surely fair move.

Regarding the 2 sprint format, I agree that 20 mins gives few chance to coming back without risking a bit... I think that the right lenght for a sprint race is at least 25-30 mins, that give you more time to be a little more quite when overtaking. The reverse grid for the race 2 it's a good idea. In the SuperSprint champ I race in Italy, we used to do 2 Sprint races of 35 mins, with the reverse order of the first eight Classified of race 1, and it add some fun for the fatest people in race 2. To make the reverse grid there's a simple way, it's enough to download the "GTR2 Server Manager", and use it to edit the grid during the qualifying sessions. You have 2 commands to edit the grid position: Move & Swap and it's quite simple to use it. If you want more infos i can provide it for you. Let me know Smiley
Cu guys!

Mike, no pit limiter feature in PnG (except on a couple of tracks I believe).

I would be very interested in trying a reverse grid 30 min event. Like you said, most the action happens in the 1st 20 mins, the extra time will just help the fast guys work through the pack better.

I will download and test the GTR2 Server Manager when I return from holiday June 3rd. I like this idea. It sounds very similar to what is available for rFactor. Thanks for the tip Manteos.

Think someone might have suggested reverse grid after Race 1, but it wasn't me. I was keen to follow the planned format and discuss after the event. I thought one of the ideas of a single spec race was to give the faster drivers a break from the constrictions of the handicap events and allow them to battle it out up front. Sometimes simple is best Wink

I'm with Tudor. One race, normal 40 mins but grid reversed on basis of Mike's info sounds good to me. If you do two short sprints with grid reversed for second there is always a possibility that some fast gent get discoed/crash out in R1 and then R2 is a bit of shambles.

As you know the make up of grid, you could simply ask people to join server in right order, via a private chat room/ts, and provided no one goes on track before race your grid should be sorted.
