Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Another impressive performance by Tim Muttram to claim victory ahead of Evil Clive. Both drivers managed to extract the best from their nimble BT11s. King Hiro drove very well to claim third place in his BRM.

In all ten drivers managed to complete the distance, a notable achievement. Five laps of the Green Hell under PRO rules isn’t easy.

Replay Time 1m0sec

Lap 1 Südkehre – Phil Thornton and Bob Whitwell

Phil got a decent start and kept to his own side of the track on the run down to Südkehre. Bob had a slower start and moved over from the right hand side of the grid to the middle of the track then braked quite early for Südkehre. Although there was enough room for two cars, slight wheel-to-wheel contact was made and Bob was sent into a spin resulting in a pile up involving several other cars.

The dilemma here is the choice between making a fast start but being careful not to rear-end someone and a slow cautious start but quick enough to avoid being rear ended. Whichever choice is made it is always safer to stay on your own side of the track. Phil made a good start, kept to his own side of the track and braked in plenty of time to make the corner. Bob made a cautious start but in moving to the left of the centre line he gave Phil little room to manoeuvre. Bob’s car snaked slightly under braking and this was enough to register contact.

Phil could have backed off earlier but given that he is normally overtaken by 2 or 3 cars off the line in 65 mod races he was expecting to have cars all over his gearbox. It would have been safer if Bob had stayed right off the line but having made the move he could see cars in both his left and right mirrors so he had to try to hold his line.

Lap 1 Hocheichen - Phil Thornton and Storm Cloud

Phil lost the rear end on cold tyres and half spun into hedge. He bounced back out and tried to put left had lock on immediately to avoid encroaching on the racing line but didn't manage it. Storm Cloud went for the gap because although Phil had ended up on the racing line there was a still good car's width of space left for him to get past. Unfortunately with internet lag it wasn't enough and warp contact was made (no actual contact on the server replay).

Season 19 Amateurs Trophy - Round 4 - Nurburgring

This is the track everyone respects, love it or hate it there is no denying it is a real challenge.  The championship is finely poised, Clive leads a trio of BT11s with Hristo very close behind in the BT7.  Although certain parts of this track require a powerful engine a good rythm is more important so the BT7 and Cooper shouldn't be too much of a disadvantage here.

Reserve drivers should not join until there are only 30 mins of qualifying left and all drivers should not go out on track until there are 30 minutes of qualifying left as this helps all drivers join the server successfully.

Please restrict chat to pit messages only including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Don't forget to use the updated 65 mod for this race.

Please be in the IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:55 p.m.
(You will need to set up a channel called #ukgpl if you haven't already done so)

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

We have split the cars into groups based on average performance and split the drivers into groups based on average ability. The chassis numbers for Amateurs are as follows:

AMATEUR CHASSIS GROUPS
1 - Lotus, Ferrari
2 - BRM, Honda
3 - BT11
4 - Cooper
5 - BT7

Each driver has been given a seeding number and must pick a chassis with either an equal number or higher number but not a lower number. For example, if a driver is given a seeding of 2, he must pick one of the cars in group 2 (BRM or Honda) but if he would prefer to drive either the BT11, Cooper or BT7 he may do so. This means that a driver given a seeding of 1 can pick any chassis he prefers.

**NOTE**
Whichever chassis a driver begins his first race with is the chassis he must use for the remainder of the season unless a change has been agreed with the moderator.

The following drivers have made their chassis choice:

Yes NP just vote at the top of this registration thread and you're in.

I'd seed you as a Group 1 driver.  That means you get the choice of any chassis but you'll have to stick with that choice for the rest of the season.

And welcome back  Wink

What's a decent time round here (ie a good lap for an average driver)?

I wish we had a predicted mid-field race lap given in the into at the top of the threads because it would help the slower drivers (me) to know roughly where to aim for when practicing.

Anyway Storm Cloud, as a slower driver, I have been managing 8 minutes and 50 seconds or there abouts. That'll probably put you in P7-P10.

Being a 'slower driver' I get your point but surely you aim for the fastest you can go!  And there is always GPL Rank where you can look up someone of similar pace.  Lap records are normally posted along with the races thread too, but I guess 65's being relatively new hasn't been generated yet.

I think the mods (what's left of them) have enough to do without digging out more lap times.

8:46 for me if that helps anyone.

Provided we've run the mod at the track before you can click on the races to the right of the srou records at the top to see all times in that event. That might help give you an idea of how mere mortals fare.
