Moderator's Report

A win in the Works shows Al H is swimming with the big fish now and puts him at the top of the table at the halfway point.
Over in the Privates Bernie had a second succesive win leaving the pressure on Vos who has a small margin at the top.
Two reported incidents in the Privates (see below).
One reminder, where we are on one grid there are actually two races taking place, there's no rule that says you can't race but bear in mind you won't gain any places against a driver in a different division.

Server replay time: 0h03m47s

Nigel closes on Billy and makes a pass into the corner.
Nigel was almost side by side when Billy turns in.
Contested Overtake : Racing Incident

Advice would be take care and be aware who is around you. If the car behind can't be seen it is probably in your blind spot.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h31m27s

Billy passes Vos into the corner but in doing so goes wide leaving a gap for a repass.
There is then a coming together with Billy going slightly right and Vos a tad too far left.
Contested Overtake : Racing incident, but keep an eye on those mirrors - if you can't see the car assume it's alongside you.

Firstly a big hand to Bernie on his second successive hard won in the Privates, bet that girl selling the ice creams is all a quiver now  Wink. Also a big hand to team-mates Al Heller and Steve Bird for the win and podium/fastest lap respectively, both earning their Martian wings with the big boys  alien

Anyway a new track to me plus little practice time meant the BRM for tokens and hope to survive without knocking the 'real' drivers out.
I was expecting a rear entry so was surprised by Billy's qually time as I knew he had the edge from praccy - turns out he was DQ'd for an accidental anti-clockwise tour of the track.
So the majority of my race was spent trying to keep him in check with occasional appearances from Phil. Phil was in a different race and quicker so it was a balancing act letting him through as soon as I could without giving Billy a cheeky one...
Anyway Billy made a jump eventually and we had a coming together, leaving me on my own. I was (old mistake) thinking 'what happened there' when Mike T lapped me and completely forgot what corner I was on. The acrobatics looked good but could have been fatal for Mike - luckilly it wasn't but sorry for that.
So race over but turns out I got third in the Privates (moderating allowing  sweatdrop) hence keeping my top spot. Albeit, with Bernie's and Mike's form, I'm not getting too relaxed.

The P/word was somewhat unguessable here if working from the 'it must be Swedish' school of thought  Grin
I like to follow themes with the passwords. This one was inspired by my sons current obsession with watching a certain BBC series - add a dollop of autism and I get exterminated from dawn till dusk  blink

Reports by close of play 28 May if you can gents.

Outstanding effort there Al.  A win in the big leagues!   clap

I was very satisfied to be P3 on the grid.  And only missing P2 by a 3/100 second!  Doh!

Well my happy effort didn't survive the first lap.  Al tapped me at the hard left just enough the spin me 180deg.   Sad   It was a great view to watch most of the field go by.  But no hard feelings toward Al.  Just a racing incident.  My challenge now was to just try to claw my way back up the line as much as possible.  Got around a few within a few laps but then I had more trouble.

BTW, sorry Bartosz for the bump toward the end of L1.  I accelerated out of a cluster of bobbling cars only to close very quickly on Bernie as he tried to get a lugging BRM to pick up some speed.  All I could do was swerve to miss him.  I feared I might not be past you but it happened in the blink of an eye and it was really a knee jerk reaction.  I was relieved to see you could continue, hopefully without any damage.

Then as I worked my way up the line I came upon Ronnie.  I was definitely faster but he was going to make me work for a pass.  As I trailed, my pressure put him on the limit of control.  We both survived one coming together as he drifted out and slowed a little before retaking the line.  But a repeat of almost the same motions and coming together a lap later really upset my car.  For some reason as I bumped my nose into him not particularly hard my engine burst into flames!   Shocked   Very strange... but at any rate it was game over.   :'(

I feel like I missed my chance to get some good points with the various car choices and strategies that seem to have been made for this race.  But oh well, it was what it was.  See ya at the next one.

In practice I had clocked a 1.40 lap & doing quite well keeping the car on the grey stuff – so was expecting a reasonable run.
For some reason I usually have a poor race if GPL decides to give me a light blue Brabham, rather than the usual green paintwork.
Just getting into my first fast lap & the phone went. Parked up the Brab & forgot which way I was facing. After one car went flying past in the opposite direction I came in to confirm my DQ & started at the back of the grid.
Received a couple of bumps, one early on. Main story of the race was following Vos – overtaking opportunities were hard to come by until I misjudged my line at the end of the flight straight, slammed on the brakes. Managed to hold it through the turn and found myself in front. Vos, however,  had the better line and edged back in front, at which point we had coming together and my front wheel had a coming apart.

So far 5 races & 5 DNF’s – only plus point is only one was caused by hitting the scenery.

Sorry Rick if I screwed your race but we were racing for position and I like to think it was a racing incident. Apologies again.

Bit of a mute point - this was a mixed grid with Works drivers and Privateers. Championship points wise there are two separate races going on.

Point taken Billy. Two championships but one race that day. Having qualified 5th and allowed some overtaking at the first bend (thought that was not allowed???) I was certainly not blocking anyone wanting to make a clean pass. Like I said sorry if I screwed your race Rick as its certainly not the job of a newbie Privateer to interfere with The Grads championship. Apologies again.

Yes it is in our league.  Some others (ADC?? or maybe AoA) don't allow it.

Apart from the consistency & high climber competition, we're also tracking a few other pointless stats to be revealed at the season's end. Halfway point in the S19 so here's a peek at the Finishing-Meister tables.

This is the competition that we announced at the start of the season to find the driver who simply finishes the most PRO races (To register a finish, the driver has to cross the start/finish line as the chequered flag is being waved. It doesn't matter if you've been lapped). Table should be fairly self-explanatory; 1 point for a finish, 0 points for a DNF - percentage of races finished also taken into account.

Privateers

Works

On to the Anderstorp results & a perfect consistency score would have been 170. Michael Turner pipped Bernie in the Privateers with an average deviation of 2.185 (ave. laptime 1:44.269) while Al Heller took the Works prize with an ave. deviation of 0.551 (ave. laptime 1:39.126). Nigel Smith & FMG took the high climber prizes.

I was certainly not blocking anyone wanting to make a clean pass...  Apologies again.

Ronnie, I agree it was a racing incident and you were not blocking.  You were just making me work very hard to find clean way past.  I usually don't attempt risky moves and try to be patient, waiting for a high percentage opening.  I thought I saw it both times when you drifted out and lost momentum but I didn't hug the inside very well and you closed the door on me.

It is tough with two divisions on the same track.  I myself was not aware at the time that we were not technically racing each other.  I just saw you as another car to get past.

Apology appreciated and accepted.

P.S.  Actually, you didn't end my race.  My engine just blew I think coincidentally with our minor contact.  Maybe I over revved it a few times too many.
