Moderator's Report

Sorry this has taken a while to post. No penalties applied but we did have a new situation requiring a moderators conflab.

Server replay time: 0h02m30s

Lap one heading into the final turn Fabio has a run up the inside, braking hard to move ahead of nigel but has a coming together with Billy. Borderline between a shunt and ambitious overtake.

Server replay time: 0h05m04s

On the approach to Hawthorn Natan is upended. Phil brakes but ends up nudging Clutch and hitting Natans upside down vehicle.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h05m16s

Recovering from the previous incident Phil rejoins blocking Al Hellar's path. Usually this would be looked as a bad rejoin. On this occasion Phil could not see the Al's car approaching. We have to ignore Pribluda as it is not mandatory. Advice to the rejoining driver is to pause / check the way is clear / listen for oncoming cars / rejoin. Provided reasonable care os taken this will be treated as racing incident.

Season 19 Spec Race Challenge - Round 5 - Brands Hatch

Round 5 of the Spec Race Challenge & we are back on British soil for a 3rd time this season with a visit to Brands Hatch.

After four rounds, Hristo leads the Light brigade but a non-appearance at Porto means Tim Muttram closes the gap. Steve Bird is still leading the charge in the Heavy Brigade having taken first or second place in 8 consecutive races. Phil Thornton a solid second and Maddog in third.

We will run two races on the same track. Two chassis are available, you must use one in each race. Use the same car twice earns you a disqualification in the second race.
Your choice of chariot for this occasion is the 1965 Mod ~ Cooper versus the BT7.

The Spec Series is a full championship with standard points scoring. In addition the moderator will also tally up every drivers fastest race lap & compare the chassis head to head. For your time to count in the “Spec Challenge” you must complete more than 50% distance in both races. Resets are allowed so don’t retire because of a bad start.
Also the Spec Series in the only GPL championship to be decided exclusively by driver skill, no handicapping applies.

Due to the number of races moderating will be light touch - reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one.  Grin Grin
that was big fun , one more time thx Billy for creating this nice series .

Brands Hatch for sure is one of the tracks I really love .
Cheesy well maybe due to the fact , I did my first podium there , back the days in GP3 league .
was a 100% rain race , wow  that was tremendous fun  Cheesy

as to yesterdays race 2 :

I have to apologize for hitting Natan . well , watching my replay there wasnt a real contact car to car .
But a warp contact no question .
As I noticed before Natan`s car was sort of jumping up and down all the time , I allready did realised he`s again under bad connection quality . Thats why is was my fault ; I should have had that in mind while coming that close.

Huh Natan , sure you have 65patch 2.02 on ?

Great fun again until my Interweb connection went dodgy in the second race. Unusual because it has, until now, been 100%  Sad.

I had just muscled my way past Tim and into 2nd spot, when I realised that I was all alone at Brands!!..."this is not good" I thought.

Sure enough, 2 corners later, everyone re-appeared. Tim did a quick warp dance in my mirrors and seemed to be alongside at one point and I thought I was about to turn into him at Druids, so I aborted to the green stuff.  I recovered, but the next lap I was playing "now you see me, now you don't" again, so I quit rather than ruin someone elses race.
A shame really because I think Tim and I were set for a race long duel  Undecided

Thanks to Billy for this fun series and grats to Hristo and Tim and Nicky for race 2.

Well a couple of eventful races for me but not for the best reasons:

Race 1.  Stayed on the outside at Druids on lap 1 to give Norbert plenty of room.  In fact I was a bit too generous and unfortunately put half a rear wheel on the grass just as I was about to feed in the power.  The result was a spin into the path of Nigel.  Sorry Nigel, and to everyone else who got caught up in the melee.  The rest of the race was quite steady.

Race 2.  Got a good start and tried to hang onto the leaders but I quickly lost the tow and I had clutch all over my gearbox (no pun intended).  On lap 3 as we came over Pilgrims Drop I saw a crash at Hawthorn Bend so I decided to keep to the inside line.  I got caught out by the bump on the approach to Hawthorn and the car bottomed out so I overshot my braking point and nudged Cluch off the track (sorry about that) before ploughing into Natan who was upside down on the track.

2 races, 2 apologies - must do better next time!!

No problem regarding the crash Phil.

As i saw it, we both approached the corner and were both greeted by a car on its roof. You flicked left, i flicked right, and we both either clipped it, or clipped each other trying to avoid it. Racing Incident, so no problem.

Still a great circuit, and good, eventful racing as ever in the spec series.

Great racing as always in this series - didn't have an answer to Hristo but had a pair of cracking races with Clive, big shame his internet let him down in race 2 as that was shaking up to being a true battle of wits!  Grin

My on-line connection, upped and went and died last week!  So I missed this event. Rather disappointing as it was my home track - I currently work a mere 3 miles from Brands Hatch!  Consequently, I'd forced myself to call in at lunch times, to study the lines, in prep. for the real thing, on-line.  But instead, I found myself peering into a junction box on the street corner, where a Virgin technician scrutinized the,'rats nest' of cables there within.  To my eye, it looked rather like a semi-exploded plate of Spaghetti, hanging like a culinary trophy on a wall.  And yes, the track I'd last  raced at, was Monza!   Roll Eyes

With his unsuccessful departure, I was left with the ability to contemplate driving art, instead of having the chance to practice it. Huh Huh Huh

So, what did this idle contemplation reap?  Hmm . . . well, if driving were like a plate of Spaghetti, then the experts would be those who use their 'noodle,' near the rim, and most 'meatballs,'  would sit around the centre,(Chicago slang) . . . while, waiting to make a mess, would be those certain quantities who, 'hang out' over the edge.  And this would mean that . . . while our cars come equipped with incr-edible parameters of safety, with large allowances for judgement, and several courses of action to choose from, before things . . . ahem, go down, that unless choosing wisely from the menu, you could easily find yourself a small slip away from disaster, or risk being rapidly chewed up!

Fortunately, I'm told that insanity does not run in the family, and the doctor has prescribed a diet of on-line racing to treat an overheating brain.  So, with the rats nest now restored, I'll shut up and drive! angel

Brands Hatch Spec report.
Apologies for the Novices length for race 2. Nevertheless, the event seemed to go down well with the regulars. BT7 & Cooper seem a good combination with some great racing, spills & thrills.
Cooper again triumped over the BT7 by an average of 0.22 secs for all drivers who completed more than half distance in both chassis. Quite an even spread across the field between the the cars. See full results below, courtesy of the Statmeister.
Hrsito returned with a vengence claiming another double victory in the Lights Brigade with a stunning 1.34.4 lap in the Cooper. FMG followed up with two 2nd places. Steve Bird was back at the top of the pile with two wins in the Heavy Brigade & Phil had another 2 podiums. Welcome back to Norbert from a temporary absence, scoring a third place.

Just to point out - the 34.4 was with warp, the server connection spiked or something. My best lap was some 35, you can see in GPLRA.

Here's the additional stats for the Brands Hatch spec race (thanks to Billy for providing the data).

Halfway point in the series so in an effort to create even more pointless stats here is each driver's average finishing position in the championship so far:

On to the regular stats & a perfect consistency score for race 1 would have been 60 & race 2 (shorter distance) would have been 35
