Was so happy to get back in time to take part in this one but I clearly shouldn't have bothered!

Was thoroughly enjoying the defensive game with Paul until about lap 10 when we managed to have a coming together at T2. Really sorry for ending your race prematurely Paul - think we would have got away with a light exchange of paint if I hadn't have lost traction on the grass afterwards and veered across towards you - tried to correct but it was too little too late.

Really did not want this one to end like this after such high hopes....think it's probably time to rein it in again until I can get some finishes in the bag.

On the plus side i thought this was a brilliant combination so cheers Pops - felt far more hooked up here than at Silverstone with a nice balanced setup, even if it may not have looked that way from the outside.

I should have stayed at work too Sad I suck at these things. I'm over 2 secs off the pace and then I'm falling off every other lap  :'(

Not the best race for me.  I was a fair bit behind where I was hoping in qually - not that it mattered, I wouldn't have moved up the grid with a new PB Roll Eyes

Steady start to the race - although I got jumped by TT.  I spent a while watching Brendan pull away for a while, and then it was pretty lonely up to the pit stop.  With a 15 second penalty for speeding in the pits (so easy to do) I was denied the 2nd half battle with TT which was looking to be a good one.

I came out a good few seconds behind, and although I narrowed the gap, it wasn't enough - and in pushing too hard I made a mistake that cost me a couple of seconds - and that was pretty much that.

Pretty dull race all in all - bring back Zandvoort and the Mazda Cheesy

I'm afraid to say that was everything I expected it to be. A very boring race at a boring track I've raced too many times.

I had the pace I expected in qually but it still didn't put me very far up at all. Started on 19.8 gallons preparing for a tyres only stop. Had a good start, catching Brendan napping off the rolling start, but after only 3 laps I accidentally took the inside curb at the kink and it sent me around at high speed, clobbered the barrier and bent the suspension at the rear. Thought it was going to be undriveable to start with but after a couple of laps I realised although it wasn't fast I could drive around it and with the wheel pointing in the wrong direction all the time to get the car to go straight. The right handers were very difficult as the car just wanted to go left, which made the left handers scarey as the car just wanted to go left more than I did. Eventually I pretty much had it sussed and although I couldn't do the pace I would have without the bent suspension I dropped very briefly into the 2:02s and one lap in 2:01 after the pits where I got some fresh rubber.

Unfortunately that mistake on lap 2/3-ish put paid to any racing with anyone else as for 27 laps I saw nobody that wasn't in the barrier or in the pits. I trundled round just waiting for people to fall off so I could pick up completely undeserved positions to finish 8th.

I don't find Road America a very entertaining track anyway to be fair. Too many long straights and too much variation in pace usually, but there you go. More new tracks for me please.

That was very long and tiring.  But fun!

Qualified 5th with a new PB.

Dave got the jump on me at the start, so I paid him back into T2  Grin  Then next time round, Paul and James went 2-wide in T1 and that gave me the momentum to take 4th off Paul into T2.  Dave and Paul then entertained themselves for a few corners and got me a gap.  Chased down James and passed him when he ran wide at T3.

I got to about 2 seconds behind Andy and couldn't get any closer, so pitted just after halfway and took fuel only.  After all the stops shook out I was in the lead!!  I had expected to be still behind Gary, who had scampered off into the distance.  Of more concern was that Dave was now only 2 seconds behind  Shocked  Pressed on as hard as I felt I could get away with, but the tyres were starting to go and I locked a brake into T3 which was all Dave needed.

Settled for 2nd and cruised home for a Team Shark 1-2  Grin Grin

Road America is one of those tracks where you can get a brilliant, enthralling race, a snoozefest, or an exercise in utter futility depending on the circumstances.

Happily in the past week I've now had 3 of the former (and a fourth in the middle of the night that was an interesting experience rather than a pleasure).

Started the week with a class win and second overall in the Radical, then after the 200 I had a brilliant ding dong in the DP and ended up on the bottom step of the podium after going backwards at the start. So to get a win tonight when it looked like I was a lot further off the pace than I was at Watkins Glen was the icing on the cake!

Qualifying was a wash out, with me never really getting a lap hooked up and simply running out of time to put in a good one. Race started okay but being on the outside of the grid I struggled to hold my position through the first few corners. Paul appeared to have started on a heavy fuel load and I managed to box him in behind Mike and fight my way past through 5, 6, and 7.

That left me stuck behind Oily who was using the bendy straight between 3 and 5 to good effect (plausible deniability ninja Wink ). With Paul closing up from behind I wasn't sure whether Oily was just struggling for race pace, or was also running heavy.

Either way my strategy of running half and half with a possible change of rubber wasn't going to work with me mired behind another car so I switched to plan B and dived into the pits very early for another 9.9 gallons and no tyres. That put me back on an almost clear track, and Picnic and Spanner made it easy to pass them, and with Robert going off just as I reached him and Shark with some damage and therefore in no position to fight I was able to stick in a really solid set of laps, and just hope for the best in terms of other cars pitting.

I saw Paul retire and then James and assumed they must have eventually had a coming together. I figured that would give me 4th place.

Eventually, one by one the leaders sarted to pit, and I passed each one in turn, with only Mike leaving the pits ahead. When we passed Gary in the pits I knew something had happened to him too, but was still shocked to be 2nd, and not only that, but closing in on Mike a little each lap. The car still felt pretty good, although I was having to nurse it a little more in the Carousel and Kink, but after a couple of laps glued to Mike's gearbox he got his braking a teeny bit wrong for turn 5, and that was all I needed to slip by and reverse the Team Shark 1-2.

After that I pushed hard to open a gap, until with about 4 to go I decided it was getting to risk and backed off a little. That had to be one of my best races to date, albeit helped a lot by the misfortune of Gary, Paul and James. An excellent result for the team, and for my chances in the drivers championship. Smiley

My expectations for this one were low, especially as in practice I had been very slow.

Not much to report over the first 2/3rds of the race.

However, I was really struggling toward the end.  After qualifying 7th I decided to go long on fuel and not change tyres.  I tried my best to manage the tyres and they seemed OK after 20 laps when I pitted.  I was comfortable in 4th and happy enough to keep a steady ship to the finish.  However, Purdie's off let me through into 3rd, just, and I had no option but to push to try and maintain the position.  Now after 25 laps of Sunday driving, I was forced to pick up the pace and with my concentration already wavering, this meant I was making awful mistakes and losing time all over the place.

A tank slapper in the penultimate corner followed immediately by a cut course flag at the final corner let Andy back through and Gary to within 5 seconds with 2 to go.  Roll Eyes  Luckily for me, the gap was enough for me to hold on to 4th.

Great drive Dave, and grats also to Mike and Purdie for filling out the podium.

Congratulations Dave, Mike and Andy.

I can't help feeling I lost a race twice tonight :'(

Practice went well and I make a small but crucial setup change after my first run. One lap I was on for a mid 58 but a spinner at the end meant I had to slow down. Qually was good though and it was fun chasing Paul H. Once he spun I took a gamble on just running on my race fuel, I came within a tenth of beating my pole time with this so I was looking forward to the race.

The first 15 laps, well, probably the best laps since my return to Sim racing a couple of years ago, no risks just steady pace and easing a gap out. I knew my tyres were good for race distance so went for a mid race fuel stop. I hit 46mph in the pit lane and obviously maintained it for too long. So served penalty and not exited behind Simon who was on an inlap, I passed him at Canada corner after getting a much better exit from the kink.

I then had visions of Mark Webber getting a penalty and still winning a GP so pushed pretty hard and overdid it at Canada and lost almost 20 seconds there. I finished 20 secs behind Dave.

So I'm feeling a little sorry for myself but its all my fault, looking to the positive this is the first time this season I have a setup I'm happy with for the DP. Roll on Infineon and Brands Grin

Regards
Gary

Well, I botched it in the first lap, ended out dead last. Recovered and had a steady pace. People fell off, Adam got an MJ-pit-bug and I ended 6th without actualy overtaking anybody. Boooooring. yawn With 14 people this series struggles just as well. Undecided

So this might be the time to shout STOP IR OPPRESSION !!! GTR2 LIVES !!!  Grin

Don't know how to insert the darn fist-pic... Tongue

Will be there for the next race, of course. Wink

Sorry guys, hadn't practiced much and the beach seemed much more appealing on a lovely sunny evening. We don't get many opportunities like that up here in the frozen North!!

Adam got an MJ-pit-bug ....

So true .... it wouldn't be a true SRouk race without one of the Legends botching the pit stop and losing time hand over fist.

Must be your turn next TT ..... I would say it's Purd's turn next, but reaching midway on an iR race for two races on the trot .... not sure about that Cheesy

I wasn't sure whether Oily was just struggling for race pace, or was also running heavy.

Yep, won't be doing that again - brimmed it before the start having failed to come up with any accurate consumption figures so was ever so slightly off my qually pace!

Was a good move to dive in the pits early Dave, grats on the win and you other podium chaps.

Only just made it back in time from the kid's summer concert so wasn't expecting to be right at the front this time. Got mugged of the start and then again by Mike and Dave a lap later as Oily defended. Spent many laps looking for a way past but it all ended at T2 on lap 9. Let's just say I wasn't very pleased and leave it at that.

Grats to Dave, Mike and Andy. Thank God we go back to some decent tracks now - RA is far too narrow to race and is no fun at all to drive.

Nice weather (here anyhow!), the WorldCup and Wimbledon, not surprising attendance is low at the moment.

None of the above reasons for me - just didn't get chance to practice.

Cheers, Ross.
