T2 of lap 1 and Gary brakes off-line into the corner unaware of Simon tucking in behind for the following series of fast corners.

Gary had just received a 'slow-down' warning and was backing off, due to the ambiguity of the iRacing system carrying on through the esses may have ended with a stop/go.

However, a collision was only just avoided with Simon just managing to avoid Gary.

Grats Dave  Smiley

Loved the combo and practised for a good 3 days so was happy to get a pb in practise of a 43.0  Grin

Just as quali started my gf got back home and was upset about a family problem (pretty serious one  Embarrassed) and wanted my full attention, hence only one flying lap in quali and a shabby start. My head was not in it at alll...... hmmm  Roll Eyes ... and maybe a little guilty  Tongue

Never tried Zandvoort except a bit of praccy in Race07 but look forward to it  Afro

ps just to add, not complaining Adam, just the way the cookie crumbles. I just seem fated to trip over you at the moment  Smiley

No worries - I didn't read any of it as a complaint Smiley.  My pit stop was a few laps after yours which is why I managed to get in your way again - with the car being a "bit" knackered I wasn't sure about how the tyres were holding up, so I basically split the post-wall laps in two and pitted half way through them meaning a few laps past the mid-race distance.

With the handling being so compromised I had to be very cautious into a number of the turns, the chicane being one of them, I was hoping I'd be through it in time to let you by without slowing you down - sorry it didn't end up being the case.

Very surprised to have the pace for third on the grid having not had time to practice at all, think I'm slowly dialing in to the Riley.

Unfortunately though concentration clearly wasn't there and 5 or so laps in after a  nice clean move from Mike I tucked in to start applying the pressure back and got slightly up on the curb at T3 (left bit of the fast chicane), which was just enough to put me into a major tank slapper and stick me in the wall....hard lol.

Complete anticlimax as I thought I might have the pace to make things interesting for third and actually felt like I was driving within myself for the first few laps as I settled in but that's racing!

Well done Dave, great drive and to Paul for a blistering qually lap - very impressive once again.

Fix up Dan - can't blame yourself for the last round! Will see you on the grid @ Zandvoort son Wink.

Sorry to have messed your race up to then  :'( I have a propensity for acting like a lemming, if someone has an accident in front of me I run out of available stack and crash in sympathy all too often  Embarrassed
Don't worry mate, I've known you long enough to know you're not a first corner bandit.  We've all done it.

Ooh, nearly forgot to post a report!

Really enjoyed that!

Started way down the order as is my usual position!  Wink
Threaded the needle through the T1 fun and games and came out about 10th!
Let Rob by as he did his usual red mist first lap!  Grin  Wink
Put in some solid laps chasing down a few people which was good fun!
I was slowly catching Ken, which I knew could only be because he had an issue! ( Still felt good though !  Wink )
Pitted for half fuel and tyres and came out ahead of Ken!
Was really pushing hard but couldn't catch Pops ahead. Kept him honest though!   Wink
Really enjoyed that!
I know we all like bumper to bumper action but I do get a lot of pleasure out of pressuring the guy in front even if he is 10/20seconds ahead. I do also feel the pressure from behind too!
Dissapointed my mate Legzy and a few others dropped out! You normally come good Legz so was expecting a come back!

Thanks all, grats to all you fast guys! Awesome pace!

Looking forward to the next one!

M.

I enjoyed that. Was just trying to go along at a steady pace so i could finsih and having Legzy ahead help give me judge myself but for some reason legzy thinks he's running GTL or something and wanted to race so dropped back screwing my up and a few laps later made a mistake and went off. Doubly annoying as i was in the top 10!

I guess i'm not here to race, I'm here to enjoy driving the cars, learn how to drive and set them up, and try and improve myself. I struggle to understand how you are bored by it, especially when you've been doing the UKGTR enduro races for so long.

Am enjoying driving these, or at least trying to drive these Cool

I'm glad you enjoyed it mate, but sadly of the two of us you were having the fun & using me a guide round the track effectively. After what must have been about 4/5 laps of you following me, I wanted a turn at following the leader that you seemed so happy with. I was hardly harassing you like I would in any other sim we do together (3/4 times a week you big green prodigy driver Tongue), just driving as quickly/safely as I could. Upped your concentration too instead of driving Miss Daisy round Roll Eyes. You throwing yourself off track had nothing to do with me though & as you know I was very disappointed when your race was over because basically that was the end of my enjoyment & so race really. Sad
BTW, we were 10th & 11th out of 12 if I remember... everyone else had quit already. I can't explain how little satisfaction I get from finding my excellent finishing position was 9th because 9 people quit before I did. Sad

p.s. It was just a real shame that so many people dropped out so early, with out people coming back through the field, limping on with far more talent then me & my normal rivals dropping out, it was just a real shame... that's all I was saying.  Smiley

Chris, I did come back past you once, the second time the car would not drive in a straight line so just had to park!

Shame, I was looking forward to trying to make my way through.

It's all very well complaining when there are so many drop outs, but there are just as many complaints when someone soldiers on with a car that is 6-7 seconds off the pace and spinning at every other corner.

If I had escaped with no damage at T1 I would've continued for sure, despite having to let the entire field through.  However, I also know how to recognise when I will be nothing more than a nuisance to everyone else and that's the time to call it quits.

I agree, it was a shame, but these things happen.  If anything, it's the only time this season that so many have dropped out, and at a circuit where the barriers are so close it hardly seems susprising.

Being off the pace is one thing, but damage or not, spinning all the time is never acceptable, that just means that you're not driving within your limits, and we clamp down on drivers guilty of that in shiny new cars.

I was initially 7 seconds a lap off the pace I should have been running as a result of damage, although after getting used to the feeling of the car it was 3-4.  Even 7 seconds off the pace, I was still within 110% of the races fastest lap.  You run at the pace that the car could do safely - being slow doesn't make you a menace .... being a menace makes you a menace.

Sure I may have cost Paul some time when he was lapping me, and maybe others, but as he says, that's the way the cookie crumbles, sometime a backmarker will cost the guy infront of you time benefitting you, other times you lose out.  Not all backmarkers have damaged cars to use as an excuse!

I think that a few more people could have soldiered on with bent cars - they might be off the pace, but I doubt that everyone that had a bent car had one so knackered that they couldn't have run within 110% of the leaders.

I realise we all do this for fun, and often a T1 prang removes the fun, but on reflection I actually enjoyed driving the car even when it was damaged.  Had a few people limped round with me I'm sure we'll all have had fun, and as long as we still drove within our limits we'd not have inconvenienced anyone more than a little.

I'm sure there used to be something in the rules stating that you had to complete a certain percentage of the race in order to score any points - I can't find it now though .... is this still in effect?
