Moderator's Report

This was an incident filled race, not helped by the invisible bollards that many drivers encountered.
There were also several incidents caused by drivers rejoining after having spins. Incidents like these are completely avoidable.
Drivers should wait until the track is clear and always try to join the track at a gradual angle, merging with the racing line as if when leaving the pits.

Server replay time: 230s

On the first lap Locutus brakes very early for Adelaide allowing the late braking Paul_W through on the outside. PaulW turns in very early but leaves just about enough room for Locutus. However Locutus has Truetom attacking him on the inside too and there is contact between all three cars, which sends PaulW into a spin.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 246s

After having the spin PaulW then makes a dangerous rejoin at the exit of the Adelaide hairpin.

  • PaulWpenalty — bad rejoin — 3 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 315s

PaulW, who has already had an eventful first lap, hits one of the invisible cones in the final chicane and spins out onto the start/finish straight.
Some good car control by PaulW keeps him out of the path of the oncoming cars.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 317s

JM_Racing spins under braking for Lycee, ends up facing the wrong way, and collects Jamera who cannot do anything to avoid him.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 326s

Jamera, still adjusting to the handling of his 360 after the incident with JM_Racing, hits the bollard in the final chicane and almost stops. Unfortunately for Gerald he is right behind Jamera and can do nothing to avoid contact.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 370s

Wilier is following Rich_A down into 180 corner and decides to have a go down the inside. It is possible to overtake on the inside here but a tight line must be taken under heavy braking while turning in. Unfortunately Wilier locks his brakes and hits the rear left corner of Rich-A's GT3, sending him off. This was a bit over-ambitious and Wilier wasn't really close enough and didn't get alongside before the braking point.

  • Wilierpenalty — Over-ambitious overtake — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 408s

JM_Racing, having spun at Estoril, is rejoining and as he accelerates he spins across the racing line in front of Jamera and there is heavy contact.
It appears from the replay that JM had a left rear puncture which caused the spin.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 1064s

Rich_A attempts to pass Don1 into turn 1, but misses his turn in point and leaves no room on the outside line for Don1. There is side contact and both cars end up in the gravel.

  • Rich_Apenalty — side by side contact — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 1188s

Pedro runs wide at 180 corner, ending up right at the edge of the large tarmac runoff area. Pedro has to avoid the spinning GT3 of Mark Jonzo while he's rejoining, which leaves him joining at a more dangerous angle than it appears he was initially planning. The rejoin isn't too bad but - considering the poor visibility at this corner for rejoining, and the spinning GT3 in his path - Pedro doesn't slow up enough and makes quite a rapid rejoin.

  • Pedro[PL]advice — rejoining at a slower pace is safer for everyone involved

Server replay time: 1620s

Don1 is rejoining at Lycee after a spin and pulls out onto the racing line straight into the path of Mo who cannot avoid him.

  • Don (Don1)penalty — bad rejoin — 3 places lost

Server replay time: 1788s

Pedro is following Popabawa up from 180 corner and decides to have a go up the inside into the Imola chicane. This is not a wise overtaking place especially when there are much better oportunities just around the corner at Chateau d'Eau and down into Lycee.
Pedro has a late lunge up the inside, not taking a tight enough line and there is side contact with Popabawa, who is punted out wide and loses control when he hits the bollards on the exit of the chicane.

  • Pedro[PL]penalty — side by side contact — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 2206s

Jamera has had a spin and is rejoining the track at the Estoril curve. He pulls straight out onto the track, at a right angle to the racing line, collecting Shark who ends up in the gravel.
Jamera then waits on the racing line in the middle of Estoril, to let Shark rejoin, while cars whiz past on both sides.

  • Jameraadvice — It is not wise to stop in the middle of the Estoril curve
  • Jamerapenalty — bad rejoin — 3 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Hi all,

Reading other threads on peoples problems rejoining quali, reserves, full timers etc, I thought I'd give you advance notice that I will unfortunately be unable to race this one. I'm upgrading to ADSL and have to wait for the package to be set up.
(ISDN just didn't cut it on a large-grid race and I'm not going to ruin anyone elses race as a result!)

I'm down as a full timer but will be back with a vengance in the third round.

Thanks guys and I look forward to seeing the replay, Magny is a great course!

I reckon this was one of my most enjoyable races from Season 1 including a great tussle with Mike Wrightson where I inevitably came off 2nd best Smiley

Down to 1:42.2 last night which I was pretty pleased with though no doubt I'll get nowhere near that in Q tonight!

I find Magny is just like that - could spend a week getting the laptimes down and then return after a few days and be nowhere again - having to start over so to speak.

Even though its not a well liked track, imo its a real challenge and all the time is made (for me anyway) by pure balls out late braking, and turning in while braking, especially for the second faster chicane. Its a track that rewards commitment in general.
btw I find the best braking pressure setting in the GT3 for this track is  85%; this allows  a bit more chance of turning while braking without locking up.

Sounds like a rant - sry didn't mean it to be.
See you later....

What I like most about Magny is that unexperienced drivers use brakes in totally inappropriate moments. The key to this track is IMHO not to brake in 85% of the cases your brain tells you to Cheesy My current PB is 1.40.814 and I just hope to find place on grid tonight as I am nGT reserve.

[btw I find the best braking pressure setting in the GT3 for this track is  85%; this allows  a bit more chance of turning while braking without locking up.

I would add to that you wanna move your brake bias even further back in the GT3 at Magny especially and reduce the coast differential so that your wheels can spin at different speeds under braking (more helpful when you are turning and slowing down which happens a lot at Magny Cours) and go easy on the brakes except into the tight hairpin at the end of the long straight where you want to slam on the anchors.

85% seems very low, i know who to outbrake though now in my Morgan.  Wink

Not a great night really!

Some brilliant times in qualifying though, I was amazed at how fast everyone was  Grin

Can't believe I threw away 6th place. 1, maybe 2 laps to go and the car pushed on for the chicane at the end of the lap. Caught the kerb on the left and just gently understeered off head on into the advertising barriers. The game said suspension damagehad  put me out, perhaps it broke running the kerb. Couldn't continue because I had no engine. Shame the pit boys won't tell me any more  Wink

Such a shame after Shark had supplied me with a Morgan setup to die for. Not only did I set a new NGT PB, I got into the 42's when on Sunday in the 911 I couldn't beat a 46  Undecided Even did a 43 in the race. Only good thing to come out of tonight is I now have a negative NGT rank

Terrible time  Sad.....ferking trackir kept freaking out on me....it just locked onto tight left direction, did it in the chicance before finish straight, middle of estoril curves Shocked and flat out leading upto s bends Angry Shocked  Threw the bloody thing across the room in a fit of rage Angry

My rear tyres were shot and had aero damage from the massive resulting spins and could hardly hold it through any curves after that so retired as it wasnt worth a pitstop anyway.

Had a crap pair of races in this championship so far  :'(
